The spa was fantastic, offering step-by-step guidance through the dry sauna, steam room, and both warm and cool pools-such a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The hotel sits right on the beach with breathtaking views and features several pools, including one with a fun swim-up bar. Dining options were excellent, with several restaurants to choose from, including Mediterranean, Mexican, buffet, Asian, sushi, steakhouse, and American cuisine. Our room was fantastic, with a rainfall shower, comfortable beds, prompt housekeeping, 24-hour room service, and turn-down service. We also enjoyed live entertainment and a night club on the property, yet it remained wonderfully quiet when we wanted to relax. We loved the aromatherapy --it was such a thoughtful touch. The location is very convenient: close to a pharmacy, just across the street from a shopping mall with a mix of upscale and casual dining and shops, and only 10-15 minutes from Cancun's vibrant club zone. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

This is not a party resort. When we were there, there was a karaoke night and a DJ in one of their lounges, but it was never crowded and the events ended early or people just left early. The 1st room we stayed in was HORRIBLE! We couldn't sleep. There was a loud rumbling sound coming from the huge air conditioning units right outside balcony. Ear plugs did not help. We talked to 3 other people also complaining about the noise from their rooms also. We were so thankful to Eileen/Aileen at the front desk for moving us. She let us view 3 rooms that were available. We went from a partial ocean view room with a king bed on the 2nd floor to a garden view (actually just the alley with trees) with 2 queen beds on the 1st floor. There was no noise whatsoever! Yaaaay! The person booking excursions could be more friendly. He seemed uninterested and looked bored. Whenever we saw him speaking to other guests, he really looked bored or tired. ONE STAR for the spa. We arrived 15 minutes early for a couples massage. My husband was led to the men's side and I was taken to the women's side. The young lady leading the way, paused at the locker room but led me directly to the quiet room. I was fully dressed and had all my belongings with me. Everyone else was in robes. Why wasn't I given a locker to store my things and a robe to change into??? I was so upset and felt so out of place. When my husband met me in the quiet room he was as confused as I was as to why I was still fully dressed. We were led to the massage room and I asked AGAIN about changing into a robe and storing my things. One of the masseuses said I didn't need to. WTF? So I undressed and piled my clothes onto an ottoman. I could not relax. The music was too loud and inappropriate. Why are you playing music with someone singing loudly? When it was over, it took me a while to calm down. We paid for shit service?! We came back and spoke to Jessica at the desk. She was also confused and concerned about the whole lock and robe ordeal. She offered a discounted spa treatment the next day but we were leaving. I wouldn't have taken it anyway. Overall, the staff was AMAZING! Please recognize them! They worked really hard to make our stay enjoyable. Get to know the staff and tip them well. Thank you to Jose at Egos who made sure our hands always had a drink in them; Carlos at Varenna for the house special cocktails; Miguel who took care of us while we relaxed on the beachside cabana. He was so attentive, personable and funny. Alejandro at the poolside bar made us laugh, Israel at Azur for the honest feedback when we had questions about the dinner menu, and Cesar at Hidden Garden who helped us figure out what was what in the darkness of the dining area. One that note, why is it so dark at Hidden Garden during the dinner service? We had to use the flashlights on our phones to read the menu and see our food. Fernando at the Siete breakfast buffet was awesome! We watched him smoothly take care of so many tables. We never felt neglected despite all the tables and people he was tending to. Lulu (Lou Lou?) is AMAZING, FUNNY and ENTERTAINING! We were lost the 1st night we arrived. He stopped what he was doing to personally escorted us to Azur in the darkness, around all the pools. We ran into him several times during our stay. He always made sure we were ok and having a good time. His energy is unmatched! Thank you to Omar, from the Concierge desk. He welcomed us when we arrived and gave us so much information about the resort. It seemed like he works everywhere. We saw him at different places in the resort. Maryam from the Concierge Desk! She was an angel. She really listened to all of our concerns. She was so friendly and funny. Even when our stay was over and we were waiting for our ride, she offered drinks and food to take with us to the airport. She definitely put a smile back on my face.

I also really liked that guests can use the pools at the other two resorts, including Colonial. It gave us more options and made the resort feel even bigger. A couple of things could be improved. I wish breakfast and lunch hours were longer, especially since the restaurants are spread out across different areas of the resort. It can take time to get from one to another, so extended hours would make dining much more convenient. The other issue was the shower in our room, 5633. The hot water never got hot, and the shower was consistently freezing, which was disappointing. Despite those issues, we had an enjoyable stay and appreciated the amenities and the ability to explore the neighboring resorts!

The overwater rooms in the Palafitos are truly phenomenal--spacious, luxurious, and everything you could dream of for a perfect getaway. The atmosphere in the Palafitos area is something special. It's quieter and more private than the rest of the resort, with a calm, exclusive feel that makes it easy to truly relax and disconnect. The overwater setting, gentle lagoon views, and overall sense of seclusion create a peaceful, almost intimate environment that felt like our own little escape. Our butlers, Alberto and William, were exceptional. They anticipated our every need and went above and beyond in ways we didn't even realize we needed. Eliseo was an outstanding waiter at the Palafitos restaurant and made every meal feel special. We mostly stayed within this quieter Palafitos area, but whenever we explored the rest of the property we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful grounds and found every staff member we encountered to be kind and welcoming. A special mention goes to the bartenders at the Swing Bar who worked the 3 p.m.-close shift--they were fantastic and really elevated the experience. If you feel like leaving the resort for a bit, Playa del Carmen is nearby and offers a great selection of shopping. This resort and its people made our trip unforgettable.

We enjoyed the fact that it was so laid back, but with that being said we had wished that the bars around the pool stayed open past 5 pm and that they opened before 10 am. The food was good, and the only complaints was that the pizza place is over where the kids play that is pretty far away from where we were and there were no pool side burger or taco places. They occasionally had a pop up that you could get food but it was specifically between 1-3. Don't get me wrong the pizza was great we just were not going to walk that far to wait an hour to get our pizza. Drinks were great and entertainment was good as well. I've stayed at three other Excellence properties and have always had wonderful experiences, which…read moremade my recent stay at Excellence Riviera Cancun last month all the more shocking. This was, without exaggeration, the worst resort experience I've ever had. Food Quality and Temperature Issues The dining situation was consistently problematic across multiple venues. At the buffet, which operated on a made-to-order system (a concept I appreciate in theory), the execution was severely lacking. Proteins would arrive hot, but sides and sauces were inexplicably cold. The wait times were extraordinarily long, defeating the purpose of the buffet concept entirely. Basmati restaurant had similar issues--the naan bread was served cold. At Flavor Market, the food was not only cold but poorly prepared, with rice so hard it was inedible. The overall quality was simply unacceptable for a resort of this caliber. Drinks Most cocktails and drinks were subpar, which was disappointing given the all-inclusive nature of the property. Service Deficiencies The service speed was painfully slow throughout the resort. As a solo traveler, I noticed a clear pattern: couples received prompt, attentive service while I was frequently overlooked. I waited 26 minutes at one point just for someone to take my drink order poolside. This happened repeatedly at the bar, restaurants, pool area, and beach--being passed over or forgotten became the norm rather than the exception. Spa Experience The spa was particularly disappointing. My milk mousse bath, advertised as 25 minutes, lasted approximately 9 minutes. For the premium price point, this felt like a blatant misrepresentation of services. Arrival Issues The trip started poorly with miscommunication regarding my airport pickup, setting an unfortunate tone for the entire stay. The Bright Spots I must give credit where it's due: the staff at the Excellence Club, particularly Matilde and Itamar, were exceptional and clearly trying their best despite systemic issues. Their efforts were genuinely appreciated but by the time I was finally able to get a seat in the Excellence area, I was already counting down the hours until departure. I quite literally would've gone home early if a nonstop flight was available. Management Response I spoke with Jessica, the guest experience manager, during my stay. While she listened to my concerns, the conversation happened the day before my departure, making any resolution impossible. She promised to follow up via email but never did--unfortunately, this lack of follow-through felt consistent with the overall experience. Final Thoughts I'm someone who has traveled solo extensively and can typically find joy in any situation. I actively chose to make the best of this trip despite the numerous setbacks, but the fact that I was ready to leave early from a vacation speaks volumes. I have never felt that way before. Excellence Riviera Cancun falls dramatically short of the standards set by other properties in the Excellence portfolio. I absolutely will not return and cannot recommend this resort, especially to solo travelers who may find themselves treated as second-tier guests. Would I recommend this resort? No, absolutely not.

The hotel and grounds are kept super clean and the room was very comfortable and quiet. There were enough staff at the bars so that one didn't have to wait long at all for drinks. Breakfast and lunch offered a wide variety of choices and eveything we had at breakfast was delicious. Cons: We felt the dinner selection and the food was so-so. Not great, but not terrible by any means. It would have been nice to have an Argentinian steak house or even Italian as choices. Definitely try the BBQ night outside of the sports bar. The fitness center has been expanded space wise but the equipment is very, very limited. The dumbbells maxed out at 15 pounds! Never heard of that one. There were a few weight lifting machines, but what they had were hard to get on because of the scarcity of choices. This made no sense whatsoever in a resort this size. I've seen Courtyards better equipped. They could do so much better with this space. Overall, we would definitely stay again, but hope that the Marriott addresses some oif the issues.

Warm, sandy, sticky serenity. Casas Del Corazon offers a strong chill vibe. Located on Soliman Bay, just a few clicks north of Tulum, this is the place to go to be removed from the action, but close enough to enjoy restaurants, etc. But during the day, the beach is yours. Corazon consists of a few casas of varying sizes. Adobe walls, thatched roofs, plantation blinds with screens, ceiling fans, some A/C, kitchens in units, a small pool, nice palapas, kayaks and SUP boards for use, and a lot of time to do a whole lot of nothing. The hosts here are friendly and laid back. From Virginia, they made the right choice. Buy property on the beach, bail out, and live the life. They were present to assist us but not up in our business. Perfect balance. Plenty of good advice and lots of resources. Accommodations are comfortable. Not luxury, but just the kind of thing we wanted. We could open the blinds at night and let the breeze blow through the room. Our kitchen was stocked out and ready to rock. And if you want to pay, they have someone who can come in and cook dinner for you. You can see my main downside to this place in my review of Soliman Bay itself, but as far as the accommodations themselves, I loved the mix of traditional, rustic and modern. Just writing this makes me want to go back!
