The room was small but had enough space for two adults who weren't spending a ton of time there. The included breakfast buffet was genuinely one of the best I've ever seen at a hotel. Huge array of options hot and cold and the pancake/crepes with whipped cream and strawberry jam were a hit! Only reason we didn't rank five stars was the shower. It was cramped and a bit slippery and the shower head was not high up and didn't angle into the shower; it angled straight down and couldn't be adjusted because there isn't a real shower door or curtain, just a pane of glass that swings out and is approximately one third the width of where a shower door should be!

It is a newly constructed building, across from the new train station on a street that now has a string of new office and apartment buildings. The lobby and lobby restaurant area is a large open space flanked by floor to ceiling glass, which makes the space feel open and airy. The guest rooms are very large, almost American in size, but are still very Scandinavian in style - wood laminate floors with minimalist, but functional & comfortable furniture. The beds are very comfortable as well and the bathrooms are very well appointed. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well.

Pros: Minutes from the Uppsala central station Large room for Europe Fairly large bathroom Free breakfast (not the best but fine) Soft beds Good tv channels Within walking distance of a delicious pizza place (mmmmm kebab pizza!!!) Cons: The room was a little stuffy because there was no AC (there were NO ACs at any of the hotels in Sweden & Denmark). Not much to do around there Overall, a decent hotel if you need to be close to the train station. Service was friendly and the rooms were very clean.

If you want to go the restaurants in the center of town, those are about a 10 minute walk away. The rooms are typical Swedish fare: sparse, clean, small beds, and just enough room for a business trip. I would not want to try to stuff a family in one of these rooms, but for me it was ok. The bathroom is well appointed as well. Breakfast (included with the room) is a pretty decent continental spread. They also serve dinner here as well, which over the years has swung back and forth from mediocre to excellent - I guess it depends on who is running the kitchen. The desk staff is excellent. They are very friendly and professional. There are only a few hotels that I choose when I am in the area and this is one of them.

Uppsala Hotel is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in Sweden (and maybe Europe). Their cleaning…read morewoman broke my cosmetics by dropping it from the table and she put it back on the table while she was cleaning my room. When I returned the room and found her, she did not mention that she broke my cosmetics. I found it after she left and reported to the general manager. The general manager admitted that the cleaning woman was the only person who entered my room during my absence. However, she said that to have the hotel to pay for cosmetics, I had to show her the receipt of my cosmetics, which I bought more than a year ago (!). Who carries a receipt a year ago when one travels abroad? I reported something was also lost in my room, but they did not look into this. The manager was absolutely a bitch. Then after she found I was an important guest of the local institution, she suddenly started to say I did not have to show her the receipt or anything. She said she would order the same product for me, but she did NOT for a long time. Therefore, I reported this to the headquarter, COO and CEO of Profil Hotel. They both ignored me and wrote to me that they trust the general manager, not me, while they never accepted a meeting with me to let me explain the situation. Finally, I had to go to the tourist info to let them call the hotel, and then the general manager finally paid the amount to me. This is not the only problem, but the hotel did all sorts of mean things after I reported the broken cosmetics. They stopped cleaning my room and supplying toilet paper, shampoo, soap, etc, during the rest of my stay for 3 weeks. They kept knocking the door though I had a tag, "Do not disturb". I cannot write all here, but they were trying to make me leave the hotel. I wanted to leave, but they refused to pay me back what I paid in advance on my arrival. I hear the hotel is closing this fall and convert it to a student accommodation. The hotel has bad reputation already, so cannot run anymore. Uppsala has a shortage of student accommodation, but I do not recommend this company to students. I am sure they will suck students as they do to hotel customers. There are already some floors rented to students, but they complain a lot. It had only one washing machine for hundreds of students (and hotel customers) for a long time (while the other one was broken and unfixed). There are bugs in the kitchens, etc.

Hostels are often for young backpackers, but this downtown building in the center of Old Uppsala…read morewas opened in April, 2013 so everything is new and fresh. They have private rooms including singles and doubles, as well as larger rooms, so except for no private bathroom and shower they are very nice. And the bathrooms are single and the showers are single and just a couple of feet across the hall from your room, so this is not a group shower experience! There is an elevator, and a reception desk, and bedding and towels provided. Breakfast is $10 which is reasonable, but we walked to a Kondotori for coffee and pastries instead. The Castle is just above you, the beautiful brick cathedral is a block away, the shopping street is two blocks away. Nice restaurants along the river. Only parking is a problem, as from 8am to 6pm you have to pay even on the street. So it was free overnight but in the morning I had to start feeding the meter! But this is the nicest newest Hostel you will ever meet and even married people like us were very happy with the room and its price. Wi-Fi free. Uppsala is a wonderful Medieval town. The Gustavium museum across from the cathedral is worth the small admission price. Discounts for over 65 or under 18. All non-smoking, Hurray!
