Apprehensive after reading all the 1 star reviews. I called, pleasant dispatcher, driver very friendly. I called from train station, took only few minutes to arrive. Knew exactly where we wanted to go. Fare policy easily readable $4.25 first mile , 25 cents per tenth of a mile afterwards. Cost us $8.25, we threw him a $10. I deducted a star because there was no taxi meter. Rather a Garmin Nuvi tracking the distance. I would use them again. Clean cab, some Chevy 4 door. read more

Grab your beverage and snacks, for this tale is quite the event to read. A couple weeks ago, I returned from a business trip. My flight landed in Boston just as the commuters were beginning their daily assault on the city. I weaved through the sea of paycheck cattle, managed to take shelter in an outbound commuter rail toward my home town, and felt entirely relieved to be nearing the end of my travels. Not so fast. It was apparently naive of me to give Attleboro the credit of assuming it was the type of place where cabs regularly frequent train stations. They don't. At least, on this clear sky morning they decided not to. Thus, I was left with cumbersome luggage and underdressed for the colder-than-when-I-left frostiness. To my brief relief, and may I emphasize the brevity there, I spotted a policeman watching over a minor road repair job. I approached the cop and asked if he knew anyone for me to call or how I might get home. At first, he said he simply did not know. Preferring not to let my tongue lash at law enforcement, I took a few steps away and had barely relinquished myself to cursing the use of my tax dollars when Mr. Cop had a streak of brilliance, and remarked to me to try Houle's. As soon as he said the name, I knew I recognized seeing the name around. The same name around town on the same cars around town since I was birthed, but I digress. To stay chronological... I called Houle's and, growing increasingly frozen, managed to stammer out that I needed a ride and was on the street near the train station. The guy on the other end of the line, who I can effortlessly envision resembling Jabba the Hutt, demanded that I tell him where I was going. I guess "home" wasn't clear enough the first couple times I stated it. Had I not been at his mercy, I might have said, "Well, I took the train to Attleboro to catch a taxi the rest of the way home to Cincinnati actually." We rose our voices at each other with every line. The back of my mind was starting to think, "Well, this one is hopeless. Might as well let off some steam." Surprisingly, he ended our correspondence with, "Ten to fifteen minutes." *click* I pondered finding an alternative and leaving Houle's hanging, if someone was even coming at all. Curiously, a taxi actually did come. It took a few extra minutes, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose. I hobbled into the taxi, putting my luggage into the rust-bucket wagon with zero help from Mr. Chauffeur. Also worth noting is that my fair driver had to ask where I was going, entirely negating the necessity of the phone battle I had waged before. Ok, back to my point above about the cars. Yikes! Ever heard of reinvesting in your company, Houle's? These things are time capsules in the least exciting way possible. The seats were different colors, not in the "I'm chic and artsy" way but rather in the "Yea Bob? I need a passenger seat. Ya got 'nething?" way. It's 2013. Every half decent taxi offers to take a card for payment. Ones that qualify as good even offer *drum roll* a screen with such novelty info as weather and news. Houle's? The back of a head and a trip to the ATM for patrons low on the green. After my ATM pit stop, we did finally get home. I paid (and did tip, for what it's worth) and zoomed into the comfort of my home with a speed unparalleled since Usain Bolt in London. My experience with Houle's was over...and never to resume again. read more

The pick up car was wicked old and beat up. Taxi driver was nice, but the fare was too expensive ($17 for less than 5 miles). Unfortunately there are no other taxis in the area. Perhaps someone should start Uber in the area ;-) read more

They never show up. Is this a real company? They are always "backed up" for an hour or so when I call. I should get a cell phone number, advertise it in the yellow pages as a cab number, answer and tell people we're sending someone, and do absolutely nothing. That's what they did to me!! Here's the truth: I created a Yelp account for the sole purpose of writing this review on the hope I will spare someone else from the torture of trying to use this "taxi" service. And don't be fooled by the single star Yelp won't allow me to give it the half star it deserves. Let's Begin: 1) The actual cars - Well if you didn't believe in miracles you certainly will after hopping into their cars. To think something so old could function (barely but still) and still be used daily is mind-blowing. Perhaps you might like antiquities and that'll distract you from the scent of tobacco or from the random creaks along the drive. 2) Payment- Credit cards certainly weren't around back when those cars were made and as such I hope you brought cash! But don't you worry they'll gladly drive you to one of the sporadically dotted ATM's in Attleborough (hope you don't have a train to catch!) 3) The Operator- As to why I should feel anxious and mentally steel myself to call an operator to give them business baffles me. I get the impression that I've selfishly disturbed their day by calling. Not that they are even in the mood to chitchat considering the numerous times they've hung up or given me gruff, curt responses. 4) Reliability - ha. 5) Random Adventures - Fun fact: I have 4 siblings and as such I was raised to share everything. However, I find it a bit of a stretch for a Houle's to show up in a cab I called for an HOUR in advance with 3 other random strangers already in it. Especially due to the fact that I am almost with a party of 4 and we ALWAYS have filled the taxi. Of course calling the friendly operators was a joy as I was blamed for not letting them know in advance as if I was enrolled in some carpool program. Overall, if you are trying to use transport yourself around Attleborough do yourself a favor and walk, jog, run, bike, or even hitch a ride. Chances are any of these options will get your there faster with less headaches. read more

If i could give it zero stars i would have but 1 is the minimum. My Houles "taxi" experience (s). Called for a ride to work in Taunton one morning from my house in Attleboro. "Be there in 20 minutes" the dispatcher says. Two hours and 10 minutes later, the cab pulls into my driveway. Leaving my driveway after I get in the cab, the driver mows down my mailbox at the end of the driveway. "I was going to tip you something despite being incredibly late, driver. Guess I can save my money for a new mailbox now." I needed a ride home from Taunton after work, but I walked instead spared myself the aggravation. Years later, I was a taxi driver myself in the area for about 12 years. Noticed one day that Houles was looking for a day time driver. Found Houles "office" down town and walked inside. No hello's, no can I help you, just some guy glaring at me from a desk. I asked about the driver job. "Just filled that position this morning". The odor of booze was overpowering, almost knocked me down. I didn't introduce myself, didn't want to say another word to this angry drunk I just got out of there asap. Wow. No Houles taxi over the door, no company sign or slogan, just a hole in the wall in downtown Attleboro. This after living in Attleboro more than 30 years, you would still never know the place was there. And why would you want to, Houles seems to begrudge the business like you owe them something for their "professional" service. I wish Yellow cab or some company would move in and buy up this farce of a taxi service. read more

Horrible service. Called for a cab over an hour ago and they say it will be here in 25 mins. So about 45 mins go by and I call them back they say 5 more mins. Waited for another half hour before the cab got here. Very politely said something about it to the cab driver and he was plain rude about it. He is not getting a tip and the cab company is getting a very angry call from me. read more

I called for a ride after finishing my Thanksgiving shopping at Stop and Shop on Pleasant Street. The dispatcher was friendly and told me my cab would be there in 5 to 10 minutes. 5 minutes later, my cab pulled up and the female driver got out of the cab and helped me load my many bags into the trunk. Upon arrival at my home, she pulled into the driveway at my request and around to the rear of my building. She jumped out of the cab and began immediately began helping unload my bags from the trunk while chatting about Thanksgiving and the size of our turkeys. The fare was very reasonable and I gave her a nice tip. I will definitely use them again. read more

Shit service. Have used this company many times and it is always a struggle. Had the awful receptionist argue with me on the phone thinking I was "pranking" her, then waited an hour and a half for a taxi that I was told would be at my door in half an hour. Unacceptable and rude people/service. Do not use!! read more

I had my car in shop and needed a ride from one job to the next, figuring there are no other cabs in town, I'd suck it up and take one. I should start by saying these cabs look horrendous, outdated and in disrepair. I called in the afternoon, 3 hours before I would need to be picked up to make an appointment. It was all downhill from there. I was assured by a tired and angry sounding woman that it was all set. I called again 30 minute prior to remind them since I had made the appointment fairly early (still an hour and a half before I needed to be at work, suspecting I would have issues). 10 minutes til....no one. 10 minutes past...no one. I called at that point where the rude dispatcher said "I just talked to him, he's on his way." Okay...30 minutes go by. I call again. "He should be there any moment." 30 minutes AFTER my shift should have started I called to cancel and one of my coworkers had to leave our store to pick me up. Avoid this company. I would rather walk 10 miles than take one of their cabs. At least walking is free and you will make it to your destination in better time. read more

Well, same story as others posted here. Wish I had read them before I called for a taxi. I arrived home early from a business trip. I raced from Logan to South Station to catch the commuter rail to Attleboro. I thought surely I could get a taxi. Upon arriving in Attleboro I called. I heard the dispatcher instruct a driver to head to my location. The dispatcher told me the driver would meet me in 5 minutes. While waiting I started to read the reviews and was horrified. After waiting 20 minutes and no arrival I decided I was not giving up any more of my day to just wait for a taxi. So I walked home. I suspect what is occurring is a triage event, hit the higher fare prospects and hope the smaller ones wait and if not they simply don't care. Either that or they are doing so well they actually need to expand and hire. read more

I paid for a round trip fare to the Amtrak station in Providence. Foolish me, I paid up front. The driver was supposed to return to pick me and my son up at 12:15am. My train ran about 10 minutes late. When I went outside, the Houle driver was nowhere to be found. I waited an additional 20 minutes before hiring another cab (and having to pay again) for a ride home. Basically, the company stole $50 from me. Perhaps I should have read all the bad reviews first. read more

This taxi service is a joke. The dispatcher is rude, the drivers are inbreds, and the fare unreasonable. Every time, and I mean every time, I call it is always over a half hour wait....but yet I see their cars just sitting in a lot somewhere. Do yourself a favor and call John at City Transportation 774-219-0502....he's like a local version of Uber....reliable trustworthy and prompt and the car is more comfortable than the Houle's pieces of junk.... read more

I needed to be in providence quickly, but I wanted to avoid the bad parking situation at providence place mall. So, I looked up cab companies, and I saw that there was only one in my area, and a poorly reviewed one at that. The driver was late and did not even have a GPS. Furthermore, she did not even know Providence(while saying she had been driving the taxi for 30 years). I had to use my GPS on my phone to tell her where to go. She still got lost, so I just paid her and got off near the mall. I made my own way from there. It soon dawned on me that I had no way home. A competent driver to take me to north attleboro from providence did not exist. So, I wandered around until I found the train station. $3 took me from Providence to Attleboro, where I called Houle's to take me home. The price was $14.50(Not bad all things considered) I have no choice but to use this company again, and I'm fine with that. I'll definitely not be taking the route from North Attleboro straight to Providence again. Attleboro station is fine to get me to Providence and Boston. So, all in all, mixed reaction to this experience. 3 stars for the ride back, less than five for the ride there. I'm going to be using this cab company a lot, but just to get to Attleboro Station and back. I'm thankful I at least have that. read more

Tonight I needed to go to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. I had severe swelling, and pain, in and around my neck, and mouth. I called for a taxi, but was yelled at by the dispatcher because she mistakenly asked me the same question over, and over again. She kept asking where I was going, and I kept saying Sturdy Hospital. Then she screamed at me for not answering her! . I could not handle her tone then because I was really sick, and trying to defend myself I strained my neck. She made me cry because I was in so much pain, and all I wanted was to go to the hospital! But she yelled at me that she asked me 5 times where I was coming from, but she didn't ask me that until the last part of the conversation. She repeated the same question, "in asking where I was going?" Because of how nervous she made me, when she rudely said the fare was $18.50, I just said forget it, and hung up! Now I am stuck at home with a swollen neck. I don't want to call and ambulance because I am able to walk down stair to get into a car. I've had trouble in the past with Houle's, but this is the only time I am making a written complaint. Other times they charge different fares going to and from the same places. They dispatchers always complain, have heavy breathing, and moody when you tell them where you want to go. It's like they don't like to do their jobs. read more
