We ordered about $60 worth of food. Beef Lo Mein, Szechuan Beef, Black Pepper Chicken, Broccoli Beef and Fried Dumplings. I am the type of person that I will tolerate a lot of bad food. I don't like to send food back or ask for a refund because I don't want to be the reason someone else has a bad day. This is the first time I've ever had food bad enough that it warranted the drive back and asking for a refund. I packaged everything up so it's not like I ate it all, said it was bad, just to get free food. There was maybe a bite missing from each plate, that's it. When I got there I simply said hi sorry but none of this was good. The girl at the counter was initially very nice and said she never heard of someone not liking their food and that she'd need the manager to approve the refund due to the "large order". I said no worries, I understand. Manager came out and was refusing the refund saying that they always made the food that way. He did offer to make anything else on the menu. I told him that wouldn't work for us due to the fact that, as he said, it was a large order, and I didn't believe anything else would be good. He started raising his voice insisting that they would not be in business if they didn't make good food. At this point I was getting peeved and told him that I'm sure that's why they had to close their restaurant side down. He insisted that this is how they run their business and I asked if yelling at customers was how they run their business. At this point I had the male manager and two female staff yelling at me. They kept saying you don't ask for a refund just because it's bad. I said no, that's exactly how a normal transaction works. They told me to leave and never come back. I sent my husband back up, funny enough the male manager didn't seem to want to yell at him. Just a woman. TL;DR, the food was the worst food I've had from anywhere. Manager refused to give me a refund, yelled at me that he didn't care if his business closed tomorrow, told me to never come back, all over $60. read more

No longer indoor seating. Stingy on condiments as soy and duck sauces. Prices are through the roof for what has gone from a dining experience to merely fast food takeout. Go to Ono Grill, Yume, Fuji and enjoy a nice sit down meal. read more

House of Chen is really good. Only negative is they are not open for dine in which I feel really hurts them. Food always taste good.

This place is an Anniston staple and always great. It's a level above your typical Chinese restaurant.

While walking in to grab some lunch, this place really had the neatest set-up. I liked the decor and the fountain outside. That ended up being about all that I liked. I'm from Calhoun County and have never tried House of Chen before. We were the only people in the restaurant, besides 1 other person. A worker's kid (I'm assuming maybe this was the owner's kid) was running around the restaurant several times. We ordered our food, only to sit there for 20+ minutes before being told that they do not have fried rice because they're in a "transition period". 2 minutes later, fried rice was on our plates after being told we couldn't have any?? I had ordered sesame chicken. It tasted like pure sugar. The fried rice was cold. When we went to pay the same worker with the kid running around (I still assume he's the owner) acted irritated when he had to get up from sitting at a table, playing on his phone for us to pay. When I was a kid, I used to come here with my family every Friday. Every birthday was spent at House of Chen. I have so many memories of the happy birthday song being sung to me by the kind employees while someone brings out a dish of ice cream (complete with candle and tiny Asian fan). Since leaving Anniston, I have had better Chinese food. Although the Chens are the real deal, the food is appropriate for the area. However, it's that kind of indulgent American Chinese food that is impossible to resist. My favorite dishes from House of Chen are the egg drop soup, the egg rolls (giant, hot, and stuffed with cabbage and shrimp), and the cho cho (delicious skewers of beef). They also make pretty great cocktails. The decor here is interesting. There are sheets of beads enclosing some of the booths, large stained glass windows, private dining rooms, and TVs hidden throughout the building. Overall, it's a homey place that just feels comfortable. Unfortunately, I believe the Chens actually sold the business a few years back and I haven't been back since that happened. I'm fairly new to Yelp but not to House of Chen! I have been enjoying the food from this great neighborhood restaurant since the summer of 1976. Classic Chinese restaurant decor greets you at the door and sets the tone for the rest of your visit. The staff is always courteous and attentive and the food is exactly what you want from a typical Chinese-American restaurant. The lunch menu has all the popular dishes and the generous portions arrive at the table quickly. The dinner menu has an even larger selection, all of which are also available for lunch, and larger portions. My wife and I often have an appetizer, soup for each of us and then share a single dinner selection. While they are often busy at meal times, the only time you will consistently find a wait is Sunday lunch as this is a generations old after church family favorite. I have had literally over 500 meals here in the 42+ years I have been a customer and I can't recall ever getting a bad one. I very highly recommend this Anniston family dining tradition. Please read the other reviews! One reviewer gave a 1 star rating because he couldn't read a map and then couldn't be bothered to call for directions. This is the best Chinese restaurant in the Jacksonville/Anniston/Oxford area. It is mostly frequented by locals who have been patrons for a long long time. A great place for lunch with the family after church on Sundays. They have a special menu at lunchtime that is very well priced ~$7 and gives you a ton of food- entree, plus soup or egg roll, fried rice, drink, and a chicken wing. One of my favorite places to eat in the Anniston-Jacksonville area. It's regular Chinese, nothing fancy, but they do what they do well. I've been eating here since I was a kid. Yet I'm still coming back as a college graduate. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The food is always made promptly and you never wait long for a good meal. The staff is mostly family and in this case it seems that makes a well oiled machine. I definitely recommend House of Chen. My favorite dishes include the Mongolian chicken, chicken lo mien and crab angles. read more

Didn't get to try it. Impossible to find for out of towner. They need to check their addresses posted on google map... it's all over the freaking place 4e 43rd then there is 431 s Quintard ...I think it's a business responsibility to verify its location online periodically.
