I was pleased to see that MUV offers flexible summer classes with the option to take various classes on a drop in basis. In recent years, I have heard nothing but bad things, with parents and students alike feeling that the school has become more about the "business", more elitist, and more snobbish. I haven't been back since 2014 so I cannot comment on the accuracy of these statements, but something to keep in mind. This is a review for the adult classes only. I've danced for most of my life, but have not focused on any particular style. I tried out both Adult Jazz and Adult Ballet. Jazz was great - there was a thorough warmup, some across-the-floor combinations, and then an actual piece of choreography that we were going to learn and perform at the school recital! The instructor was awesome and friendly, accommodating the wide range of skills in the classroom. I didn't like ballet as much, but that's probably because I'm more used to the standardized class formats that are used at company feeder schools like Boston Ballet and Ballet Austin. There was less structure in the ballet class and - even though there were only 3 students that day - I felt like corrections were too generalized, unhelpful, and not given enough. Overall, a great place for recreational-level adult dance, but if you want to really work on and perfect your technique, I suggest you go elsewhere. The adult classes are really geared towards beginner-level individuals. Not a bad thing, just not what I needed at the time.

We went and my daughter had a blast and the parents couldn't say enough good things about the instructor/owner Mr. Evans. So we talked to Evans and he said for her to come to a real class for free and see if she liked it (as the birthday parties are a little more loose and silly compared to regular class). Sounded like a solid deal so we did 2 days later and to our surprise she loved it. She goes to class about 3-4 times a week only because some days the class for her belt group was at a time that we couldn't get off work in time to get her there. The new location is awesome because it is so close to our house and Mr. Evans and some of the black belt student instructors like Donald and Daeyon (god I think I spelled that right) are amazing. The amount of patience these guys have with working with kids from 5/6 all the way up to 13/14 year olds for the "kids" classes is amazing. We have seen such a big difference in our daughter's confidence as well as manners too (not that she was a bad kid or rude to begin with) but they teach kids about respect and courtesy and what it means to have self discipline and other values. Plus the exercise she gets has been great for her too, and I feel that if she did get picked on by bullies she could deal with it. The place is great, lots of our neighbors have daughters that go there and it is awesome seeing the girls kick ass as much as the boys. We couldn't get my daughter into any extracurricular activities like Dance or anything, so we were very happy she has found this. The school also rewards kids for good attendance as well as getting good grades at school. If you are looking for your kids then call them and set up a day to check it out. I would be surprised if they didn't love it and it is very affordable.

Instead of encouraging growth, the studio was very political, where favoritism and who you knew mattered more than talent or hard work. It often came across as cult-like, with pressure to fit into the existing groups rather than simply enjoy dancing. The director pushes the idea of "having fun while dancing" yet makes it feel like your swarmed with competition and pure judgment. My daughter would constantly come home crying from how much she just wanted to quit. Hard to hear that as a paren, especially with how much money you've put into this "amazing" studio.

When we first registered on the site, I put in my daughter's birthday and the only classes the website offered to me were classes for the wrong age group. I emailed and I was told they would register me for the correct class themselves. Around a month later when my daughter and I showed up for class, the studio was locked up and the lights were off. The only phone number we had just rang and went to voicemail. We hung around for a few minutes, then finally left. I emailed the studio and didn't receive a response for 3 days. The email I eventually received said that the class teacher was sick and had emailed the class in advance. I didn't get the email, though, because apparently I wasn't actually added to the class. I still had received billing statements prior to this, so I assumed they had actually done what they said they would do. Communication surrounding the recital was also mixed. I was told details about the recital in February, but then a few months later at the end of a class, our dance teacher said the class would not actually be in the recital, which was news to me and the other parents. I had already told our extended family the recital date. Better communication would help a lot. My daughter enjoyed the class and learned new things, but I think we'll look elsewhere for the fall.

Our daughter is five, and she takes classes from Ms. Dani who owns the school. Dani is everything you want in your child's (or your!) teacher. She does a wonderful job of keeping it fun while teaching the kids routines that are seriously so impressive! Our daughter has fallen in love with dance, and asks daily if she gets to go to dance class. The lobby is clean, comfortable and pretty. The dance rooms are absolutely beautiful and acoustics are great. The ambiance is just right at this studio, and every interaction we've had there has been very positive.
