One of my bridesmaids/best friends was in town visiting for a few days and she suggested we go look at dresses while she was here. I found Elaya Vaughn Bridal on Yelp and my friend called right away. And JUST our luck there was an appointment cancellation and she could fit us in the very next day! I got an email confirmation letting me know what to expect, how many people to bring, and the price ranges and sizes of the gowns. The day of the appointment I took two friends and Kate warmly greeted us and kept the champagne flowing the entire appointment! This was by far one of the most fun experiences I've had trying on clothes! Kate asked me questions about my preferences and immediately went to work pulling options for me. I was very fortunate that every dress I tried on fit me pretty well, making it easier to envision what the final look would be. (I'm around a size 4-6 on top and closer to an 8-10 on the bottom, but all the gowns were easily slipped over my head and fell over my hips.) Kate was so helpful offering alternatives when I said which parts of gowns I did and didn't like on me. And suggesting different fabrics to lower cost and be more beach-friendly (my wedding is going to be on a beach). The entire showroom is in the basement of a row house and is beautifully decorated and had plenty of light coming in, which was great for photos. A day after the appointment Kate followed up by email with the details of the dress I liked the most and the design alternations we talked about, letting me know if I was interested to schedule a follow up appointment to get measurements. I'm still in the phase of wanting to try on all the dresses, but I had such a wonderful experience and absolutely recommend this shop to any brides!

I went with my mom to look at dresses and Kate put no pressure on us and let us play dress up. She was just as excited as we were to try on the dresses and frolic around in her studio. I picked multiple dresses and it was so hard to narrow down to just one. They were all so beautiful and the material was so soft. Kate was able to take the dress I wanted and make a fuller bottom for me since I really loved the top but wasn't a fan of the mermaid fit. She made it exactly to what I wanted and dreamed of. Lynne is an absolute alchemist!…read more I knew it was time to shift from frumpy/comfy to a crisp, professional work look. But, there were so many buts. And also, my butt, which is not small, and doesn't exactly fit the buttoned-down look that I think of as professional. We started with the colors and makeup. I emailed Lynne the night before and said, "I feel like I should get this out-front: I hate the way makeup looks on me. It makes me look older and hard-faced." And I showed her pictures to prove it. And Lynne said, "well, of course it does. Those are exactly the wrong colors for you, and the shaping isn't doing you any favors." And then we spent 15 minutes deciding exactly what color my eyes are (not the color I thought all my life, but she was spot on). Starting from there, she found the exactly perfect colors and placements, and I swear, I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror. Two days later, we went shopping. I'm plus-size in most items, and, while it's getting better, typically the larger size departments don't have the best selection. Lynne solved that problem by pulling out everything that was the right color or size/cut. We built a pretty solid basis from there. Then, if the piece was otherwise right, but not the size or color I needed, Lynne asked our sales assistant if it was available in another department in the size/color I was looking for. (I really hope the sales lady was on commission because she was awesome and certainly earned it). Some of it was available from different departments, and one pair of pants I ordered. Most importantly, instead of making me think my size or shape is something to hide, she made it clear that there are no bad bodies, just ones that aren't wearing the right clothes. The clothes we selected are perfect for the image I want to convey, and we didn't have to use shapewear to contort my body into a different shape to do it. This is getting long, so I won't go much further. I will also say that Lynne asked me about my budget and was mindful of that. She always expressed her opinions as just that. Not least, she was a tremendous amount of fun to spend the day with. Overall, I absolutely recommend Lynne to anyone who is looking to up their image game.

Its not a corporate shop. Its a one-man show, so keep that in mind when you go visit.

For example, she noticed that my bustle would look much much better if it came in from both sides (to form a little bow like area). Mrs Lam also moved the location of the bustles higher so that the length of the dress could sit lower when bustled, and could remain long without needing to be shortened; she later added two little bows to make the bustle easier to pull back and hide. In the front, Mrs Lam made the length perfect, so that it remained long, but I could move around freely. Every time someone saw me in the dress they would say, "WOW!" I felt in very good hands with Mrs Lam and that she contributed greatly to making my wedding experience aesthetically pleasing and physically comfortable. I recommend Mrs Lam unreservedly and am so grateful for her beautiful work!
