I live in the area for over 25 years. I have ordered from this place maybe a handful of times. Today I ordered, now I realize why I don't order from there. The restaurant does not have a pleasant smell when you enter. It smells like rancid oil to me. The food was not good. The wonton soup was so salty I could not have it. The rice and Mongolian beef was not tasteful. Rice was a little hard, I had to put it in the microwave to cook it a little more. The shrimp with lobster sauce barely had any sauce. Ambiance While we waited for the food, I had to scare away flies and gnats that were hovering over us. We noticed gnats splattered on the wall next to our booth. Apparently we were not the first ones. The place looked dirty and unkempt. The walls were dirty and the rug has seen better days. Food; The Wonton and Egg Drp soups were good but very small portions. As usual with my workday meals, I got there a little before closing time and most of the restaurant's other clients just seemed to be getting takeout. So it's like I had the whole place to myself! I believe it's a family run restaurant, and those are always nice. They have different a la carte classic Chinese restaurant items as well as combos that come with a spring roll, soup and a rice side. I wasn't feeling the spring roll and skipped the soup. However, the General Tsao's chicken was lightly breaded, juicy chicken breast with a sweet / mildly spicy sauce. The portion was really generous, with enough to make a meal at home. My side of pork fried rice - about pint size - wasn't dry and had a few pork pieces in it. Of course I had dessert. Something has definitely changed. I don't mind spending the new amount that every restaurant seems to have if the food is really good. I'm tired of all these higher prices and getting really nasty food in Miami!!!!! We try to support local restaurants but this is getting crazy. Right now everyone is holding and saving their money. It's the first time I've ordered House of Sun. I was relaxing at home, being lazy, and thought some Chinese takeout would be a good idea. FML what a terrible decision. It was downhill from the get-go. I ordered a "Homemade Ice Tea with Lime". They legit gave me a can of Brisk Ice Tea - Lemon flavored. The special fried rice had pieces of chicken and rib meat, it had eggs in the mix too, and at first glance I thought I saw some green onions. It wasn't. It was peas and then I noticed the carrots. I have to say it; If your fried rice includes peas and carrots, it's trash! I served myself a plate and I now regret it. The quality of chicken was poor. The pork was dried. The rice itself had a tinge to the taste. I don't know what they did, if they used old oil, burnt the oil, or if this is just what they had late at night. I also ordered a portion of their bourbon chicken, honey garlic chicken, and BBQ spare ribs. The honey garlic chicken and spare ribs was just your basic honey garlic chicken and spare ribs that are served at all these Chinese takeout spots. It seems that they all have the same vendor for this stuff. But it was just basic. In regard to the bourbon chicken, you have to drown the chicken in the bourbon sauce in order to just manage. Overall, it simply can't get any worse and this is no exaggeration. Not to mention, it was pretty expensive. I literally threw everything away. TIP: STAY AWAY read more

The owner is the sweetest woman and her daughters help out at the restaurant-- you can feel the love! The crab meat pastries, fried wontons, and honey chicken are my favorites. I have been ordering from here for a couple of years. The food is consistently good, which is important. I have to give them an 'ok' review because i dont know who packs the delivery orders and thinks its a good idea to put the soups/sauces on the bottom, and the meals on top, but they need to be stopped. I have received more than one leaky brown bag deliver with sauces and soups dripping out the bottom. The food inside that was salvaged is great but honestly, i paid for a whole order and should expect to receive it. pack it up better guys!! read more

Went here today for the first time, there was a dirty table right in front of the cashier booth with the menus on it. There was only 1 customer in the whole restaurant and 1 man waiting for the hostess when I came in. We both waited for about 10 minutes and still no one came to the front . Truthfully, the food is nothing to rave about. If I'm close by, with the lil bro and in the mood, I'll drop by. I normally always order the same thing: Honey garlic chicken (sauce on side) Special fried rice and the steamed meat dumplings (They also serve the dumplings grilled, but they're aightttt) Again, nothing special. For the amount of food you're getting they're also fairly priced. 30 bucks worth can easily feed 3 people. I mean whaaaaatever. I don't really care for House of Sun. There are so many better places, but it's close by, convenient and they deliver with no minimum. I kinda like the food better when I take-out instead of dining in? Hm, funny how that happens. If you want fake Asian food that makes you feel nasty afterwards, then this is the place to come. The young waitress was nice. I wanted to tip the younger waitress but she left before I could. The other ones were not attentive and she told me "next time you eat here, you need to tip." I won't tip for inattentive workers and disgusting food. I was really rooting for them! I love Chinese food and I use to get take out from time to time but tonight was the end of a long relationship. The only thing that was good was their steamed white rice. The Mongolian chicken tasted rubbery and in a sweet water tasteless sauce with more scallions than chicken rubber. And my Kung pao had more 'whole peanuts' then tasteless rubber 'chunks' of chicken. I hope someone reads this before ordering take out. I would hate for them to have such a bad experience as ours. The health department should inspect this restaurant immediately. I will leave it at that! Service is really bad. There was no waitress today, and last Sunday a very lazy and rude waitress refused to wait on me although there was only a family of four sitting at a table. She blocked the entrance with two chairs and told me she was only one and was unable to wait on more than one party at a time. Ridiculous. I will not give them a third chance. Straight and to the point - House of Sun is very clean, moderately priced and serves up good food! I've come here sporadically throughout the years, but really started to appreciate it lately. Their meat is clean and rice doesn't taste greasy at all! What a great surprise this place was! We just moved to Miami Lakes and House of Sun's menu was in our apartment complex's welcome package, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I enjoyed my food so much that my husband ordered from them as well when he got home. We ordered: A la cart Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables Added dinner option with wonton soup, chicken wing and steamed rice Combination Dinner Kung Pao Chicken including wonton soup, pork fried rice and egg roll BBQ pork appetizer. First off, I loved the chicken wing option. Too many places just slap a midget egg roll in the bag and call it a day. The huge wing was perfectly cooked: moist and juicy inside with a crunchy, light breading. The Shrimp w/Vegetables was fantastic. The veggies were obviously fresh and perfectly cooked. I've had way too many experiences with soggy nasty broccoli, rancid looking bok choy and/or rock hard, crusty carrots so I appreciated the quality of the ingredients. The sauce was light and flavorful. The soup was a bit greasy but the dumpling filling was very savory. The Kung Pao and fried rice were a disappointment; they weren't bad, but they seemed pretty blah even though we ordered them extra spicy. The egg roll was another example of fresh ingredients; I could tell what each shred of vegetable was. The pork was awesome, awesome and more awesome. Tender, meaty slices with a sweet and smoky sauce. No crusty, burned ends here! This is definitely NOT a $1 Chinese place. We spent over $40 (although some of that was for the double delivery). However, the food justifies the expense. We plan on going in for a family-style meal very soon and will keep the delivery menu handy. read more

One of the ladies asked me if it was for here or to go? I responded with here and she waved the waitress to show me to a table. The first thing that stood out to me was that their takeout menu has a bunch of dinner options that are not in the actual menu. I hunted for the dinner options in the actual menu and couldn't find them. I was forced to breakout the takeout menu and point with my finger to the item that I wanted to order. I ordered the Szechuan chicken with steamed rice, egg roll, and egg drop soup. The waiter said "spicy?" And I said yes. I ended up having to request additional spicy pepper to add to the meal because it was not Szechuan style like I had expected. The food was good but the chicken was kind of rubbery. The egg drop soup was delicious and the spring roll was nothing special. The waiter was more interested in what was going on on his phone than in what was going on at my table. I had requested chopsticks and had to request them a second time before he got them. I had to get up from my seat to request more spicy pepper to add to my supposedly Szechuan meal. I tried to get his attention to request some hot mustard but he had disappeared into the back still playing with his phone. When he handed me the check, he then seemed very interested. The shrimp fried rice and sweet and sour chicken is amazing from here. But I hate that they don't allow you to substitute your rice with the lunch or dinner special. Every Chinese place charge you more but let u get another rice. The portion is also smaller than other restaurants for the specials but it's delicious and worth it.
