Houseplay handled a complete transformation of our kitchen -- tearing down parts of two walls to create an open layout; laying down new flooring; installing new cabinetry, back splash, appliances, etc. We were so impressed with their many creative solutions for our tight space (e.g., installing custom cabinetry), our tight budget (helping us locate and transport reclaimed high-end cabinets and new appliances at factory-direct prices!), and tight deadline (less than a month from planning to completion, phew). It was our first renovation, so we needed a lot of guidance and hand-holding. They responded promptly to our many questions, requests and concerns, and their team was always courteous and respectful of our home. We were even able to stay throughout the renovation, as opposed to having to move out while they were working, and our three children enjoyed having them around. Our new kitchen turned out even more beautiful, functional, and spacious than we had hoped it would be. I hired Houseplay Painters after I had work done on my house this summer and was surprised by the quality work performed. We hired them to repaint our entire house, which is 4000 square feet and gave a strict deadline of 2 weeks. The owner contacted me the same day and told me they would have the work completed in 2 weeks. Their painters arrived the next day at 8 am sharp and proceeded into my house with cans of paint, paintbrushes, rollers and a ladder. I think there were 4 painters that showed up on day 1. They did a wonderful job on the difficult areas like ceilings and the crown moldings, which generally take more time. We also requested that they do contemporary stripes in our living areas and they did an excellent job painting them straight and uniformly. The surprise to us was the time frame. We said 2 weeks and they finished the job in less than a week! On Friday, they were performing minor touches and by Friday afternoon, they were finished. We will surely use them again for any painting needs we have. read more

I can't say enough great things about Houseplay and its founder/contractor Niall. We hired Niall to replace all the exterior doors and windows in our downtown Jersey City apartment. His quote was fair and all changes to it - which were very minor - were discussed and agreed upon beforehand. In fact, even though the installation was more complicated and time consuming than anticipated, Niall never charged us extra for the additional time needed to complete the project. Niall was there every day during the project. He was punctual and very accessible if needed via phone or text. His wife, Tamara, who deals with the billing aspect of the company, was also easy to contact over email and gave clear, concise payment statements. Most importantly, Niall is just a great guy. He's beyond trustworthy and genuinely cares about the quality of craftsmanship he adds to your home. If I had unlimited funds I would have him renovate my entire apartment. read more

Niall and his team are an amazing work force! My loft space was in need of some major immediate repairs which included replacing structural ceiling beams and columns, in addition to brick wall repairs, etc., They did a FANTASTIC job, repairing and replacing all the damage in a short amount of time. In addition they were extremely pleasant to work with, very flexible with their schedule (as I had to urgently travel in the middle of the job!) and additionally kindly repaired some damaged areas, not included in the original contract! They are friendly, reliable and an honest group of individuals who are a delight to work with! In addition they have done a fantastic series of other construction/repair jobs in my building with continuously successful results. Total overhaul. I needed a complete bathroom overhaul. I interviewed seven contractors with quotes that ranged from 6k to 17k, Houseplay came in somewhere in the middle, but I believe that I received service and value far above that. Our bathroom is 9'x13'. It features a 2 person whirlpool, walk-in shower, 6' long sink counter, an ample closet, and a bidet and commode. The remodel required taking the room down to the studs.The estimate was accurate and complete, the work was done with care and attention to detail, and in a timely manner. if we decided on a change at the last minute, Niall picked up on it and offered possible alternatives and variations for us to consider and went about with the changes we decided upon, the communication was good. Niall painted the trim on the facade of my house a few years ago, and I have been working with him since. The job he recently finished for me was quite a challenge and I was pleased with the results. My tired enclosed porch with layers of peeling exterior paint and rotting steps to the yard needed a full overhaul. The job required more than a little carpentry, as well as finishing and trim work around some windows that were poorly installed years ago (by another contractor). The very worn original wood clapboard siding was able to be restored to a pristine condition and the trim work added brightness and vibrancy to that primary entertaining area. Houseplay just completed a major remodel of our townhouse. They gutted and reconfigured the master bathroom, moved the laundry, added a half bath to the basement, put in hardwood floors in the master bedroom. The work was completed in a timely manor and on budget (except for approved add ons of additional items). The subcontractors were all excellent, they dealt with condo rules about work hours, trash removal, etc. At the very end a few items weren't perfect and Niall insisted on fixing them so the job right.
