I was in the library being scammed from my voice over of Google. I don't know how they got my information. I was also trying to get my prescription drugs mail to my house due to the fact that my car is in the shop because of power steering issues also trying to get my rental car to get me around from point to point B because I'm disabled I have been rudely interrupted by the library manager. Her name is Christina. She called the campus police on me five of them blatantly because of my size of my statue. I'm a 57 year-old black man who's been disabled I have spent $2000 into this college to take three steps forward and three steps back because of my stature I have not gotten any help from professors or of the associate dean of students from the NW College. I would strongly urge students who want to go to this newfound for your college, not go. It is discriminating. It is gender ism on how the way the students not only feel but how they have been treated. This university needs to be seriously streamline. Advisors are very rude. They miss inform students as well as the chair people of the Higher administration and conducting and supporting professors who are passionate, but not giving them the tools or the students to succeed and which is really sad because the next generation they have no support I've got no support and no avail and I've decided to move forward with another accredited university so I strongly urge you don't go to this university I've wasted four semesters and good hard earned money that I put out in my pocket that I won't be getting back. Dallas College offers online classes like many other higher education institutions. Though HCC seems like the affordable option to better your life through education, at its core, it is an institution of moral corruption. Their graduation rate sits at 16.5% (out of 100%) and if you read their policies, you will see that they do not encourage students to advocate for themselves. They do not want to assist their students; they want to take advantage and keep the money. From deans to professors, they are only looking to keep their jobs and gaslight the students. NOTE: This review is about the library only. First time visiting. The library is available to non-HCC students and the wifi is free and fast. You must, however, check-in first to use their facility. There are study rooms and several desks with low privacy barriers available. The library is on the 3rd floor with an extension to the 4th floor. It's very quiet with nice city views. It's open daily except Sundays. On the first floor, there's a small cafe that serves Starbucks coffee. There are vending machines and microwaves available as well. One downside is there aren't a lot of outlets in the library area. Street parking is available. Not sure how it is when school is in session. read more

I'm not sure how much of the negative experiences I've had here have to do with the campus itself and how much has to do with HCC just not having their stuff together. First of all, as others have noted, parking is bad. The lots are small and require a permit, and you basically have to fend off traffic to find metered street parking in order to go to class. This alone ensures that you're in a sour mood before you ever enter a classroom. Second of all, the bookstore was disorganized. Apparently they notified the professor that the book was in stock when it wasn't, so he was expecting us to have assignments done before we even had the book to get the assignments to do. Third, it seemed like the professor and the school weren't on the same page. When we first started, we were bumped to a different classroom and had a substitute for our first week, but no memo was sent out to anyone and the class online still listed the wrong room. The class has gotten better now that the professor is more involved, but this is still my least favorite campus to attend class at out of the four I've taken classes at so far. read more

I have personally taken some type of art class at Texas A&M, UNT, University of Houston Main Campus, HCC Stafford and Alief. So no, I do not believe I am being biased when I say that HCC CENTRAL has one of THE BEST labs for digital communication courses. I know that most parents dislike the idea of their teens to go to HCC but honestly THIS department is top notch. Brand new equipment, furniture, MAC DESKTOPS for even the most complex software. I had to edit one of my video projects on Adobe Premiere Pro and the importing, exporting, processing EVERYTHING was so smooth. They have Ivy League equipment-yeah, I went there. I have been attempting to register for courses since Jan.3rd. Every single time I thought I had completed all forms required, oh! Here's a new one. Oh you can't register online? Call the department. This review is for the fashion department of HCC. I already have a BA and other certifications, but I decided to pursue my goal of being a fashion designer. It has an amazing faculty. The classes really prepare you for a career. They have excellent equipment such as industrial machines, sergers, forms, and everything in between. I have learned so much. The teachers are pros and do have high standards. Students constantly participate in state contests and many win. It really is the best fashion program in Texas. The cost is excellent. I wanted to study at FIDM when I lived in LA, but found the cost exorbitant. Here I am happy with what I get in return. I do have some issues with the school's advising and chair of the department. I also had one class in which the professor didn't measure up to any of her colleagues. They have also have a great Costume Design program, and I have taken a few classes in that area. read more

I already have a bachelors degree from Texas State University and I want to go back to school for nursing which I need to take 2 classes before I can apply. I took my transcript there to prove I meet the pre reqs for the classes. I log on to register for classes....no one did what they were supposed to do with my transcript so I cant register. I meet with an advisor to make sure the transcript is uploaded so I can register, still the transcript is not uploaded and I still cant register. WTH is wrong with these people???? They are so slow and they DO NOT DO what they are asked to do. Even if you go in person they don't do what you ask. This is a pitiful excuse for higher education. I hate to do this to my current school but have been dealing with financial aid since the summer session in June. This past summer I enrolled back in school after a 20 year layoff & closed out both sessions with a 3.8 GPA. You'd think I'd be off of academic probation after posting grades with close to an A average. Instead of removing me from probation, the financial aid decides to do an academic review in order to determine my eligibility for financial aid going forward. To provide more context, I applied for financial aid during the summer & should've been on probation during that time & not the fall. As a result of them doing the review it delayed my aid & caused me to be dropped from my classes in my final semester before graduation. I was supposed to start classes on 8/21 of this year, but as a result of my classes getting added back a week after the semester started, financial aid would instead hold my refund until November because I'm currently being shown as a part time student. As a result, I had to rob Peter to pay Paul by getting a laptop computer while I had 3 outstanding bills due to needing the laptop for school & some other school related expenses. Financial Aid has avoided accountability & the administrator's responsibility to me was have a good semester in a very condescending manner. This school has a serious issue with follow up in addition to transparency, I've filed a grievance with the chancellor but I don't believe anything will ever be done because their staff sticks together. read more

I was approved for a Pell Grant of $2279. I took 3 classes and everything turned out to cost around $1250. The last week of class I get an email from the bursars office saying my account is on hold and that I owe the $1250. Called the financial aide office. They said they made a mistake and that I was not approved. I held on the line for 20 mins. The woman comes back and says they found $700 to "help me out." She said I still owe $500+. She gave me Rodney Jackson's number. He is the bursar. I left several messages and he never returned my call. I got shafted. I would have gotten a student loan had I know I could not continue school because of their incompetence. BEWARE! 90% of the staff here is horrible. You will spend more time calling financial aid than studying. Don't waste your time just go to U of H! I am! read more

When you do get seen, they do take their time to answer any question you have as thoroughly as they can, but that is probably why there is so much waiting here. Be advised...closer to school starting, they move the whole counseling office to the 1st floor, and you won't know until after you sign-in on the 2nd floor. Also, I tried to get a member in enrollment to help enroll me into my classes, but she told me I had to do it online. What is the enrollment desk for, then? Tip: You have to pay for parking at a meter, and depending on the time of day, parking might be difficult to find. read more

Returning to this campus after a decade to attend weekend classes was both a surprise and a treat. They did some fabulous and no doubt much needed upgrades. I mean the restrooms have granite countertops!!! Hallways are clean, classrooms are modern and once they finish with all the remodeling it will be a 21st century campus. So far my professors have all been fantastic lecturers and very intelligent people most of which are doctors. They teach passionately and have big hearts. That's why the school gets two stars. The bad and the ugly: After applying for financial aid I received an email alerting me to go to HCCs website and accept my awards which I did promptly. They informed me that my HCC eagle card would arrive within 7-10 business days and that my grant and loans would be dispersed via this card. Once I received the card and activated it I noticed nothing had been dispersed so naturally I called. They told me it should be on my card by next week. Ok cool. That didn't happen so I went to the Financial Aid office. They told me HCC puts a 30 day hold on all funds....wtf. So a loan I am already paying interest on is withheld by another entity for 30 days?! Yup. Ok so my limited availability caused me to lose my job, Texas right to work laws prevented me from collecting unemployment and of course this means I lost my place to live and am now homeless. That's ok I can tough it on the streets for a couple weeks and still make it to school. Yesterday my loans should have been processed, my stint of homelessness should be over. I am so happy. No money? Wtf?! I go into the financial aid office, I ask them what is going on. What do you mean I still need to fill out an entrance counseling form and a master promissory note and wait an additional 2 to 3 weeks!?!?! I am homeless and don't have any food and this is something you couldn't have reminded me of!? I look around my classes and I see they are already half full. So many people that wanted a better future have dropped out. Were they facing the same problems I was? Were they about to be homeless and maybe had kids and had to dropout and go back to work fulltime? Is the school actually trying to help us succeed academically? Do they even care that I am homeless? How many dreams of a better future are being crushed thanks to predator-like financial aid policy? I can't give up, but I am tired of trying to build a better future and having an academic establishment that I trusted with this aspect of my future throw a constant wrench in my works. I have found a part time job serving at Oporto in Midtown. Hopefully money will come in soon from one source or the other. Until then I guess I will be living in a public storage shed in Bellaire. Not too long ago my husband and I went to ask a question, we were directed to the counseling department. There was someone right by the door on a computer and he asked why we we here there. He then looked at me and said rudely "I guess you're just tagging a long". I just smiled thinking he was making a joke. My husband tried explaining his reason, he was having trouble remembering something so I spoke up and the man kicked me out of the room for doing so. So rude! We had already had trouble trying to get someone to direct us to the appropriate person that could help. We had been calling around for days and kept getting redirected to someone else. My husband said the man was of no help because he seemed argumentative while he was trying to explain something. In the end we left with no answers. read more

This is my third and maybe my final semester at this den of iniquity. I had a teacher that never taught anything. It was the students that presented the powerpoint presentations and he graded us. His geology midterm consisted of math questions. One of my classes was cancelled and I was never notified. I was constantly told that they emailed me and they did not. I was accused of not reading my email and then the Mathematics staff finally told the truth and said that they never sent the emails. I contacted the Dean of Student Services and you have to go through a ogorish troll to try to schedule an appointment. I took four SAP classes, received four certificates and only three showed up on my transcript. The staff does not want to correct it. This school can bother the hell out of you for your tuition money, but they don't want to work for it. When I transferred my transcripts from out of state. It sat on some idiot's desk for over a year. The school was sold, and they could not find it. Did the fool call me? NO. Did the lazy idiot email me? NO. Did the stupid moron snail mail me? NO. When I went off on the advisor, he asked me how did I forge the transcripts. Excuse me? When I got through cursing him out, even Jesus was determined to being a fake child of god. No work ethic. This school is a POS. Administration and instructors are sorry and lazy. Questions are never answered and problems are never solved. RUN. Run as far as you can and as fast as a space shuttle can carry you. ** Update I found out that Houston Community College gave my certificate and updated transcripts to some unknown individual. I never authorized this privacy violation action. When called out on this issue, HCC is not taking this violation seriously, actually these idiots laughed about it. They said that they will replace the items that I supposedly lost. Excuse me? I never obtained those documents that they claimed that I picked up on November 30, 2017. I was signing my lease and moving into my apartment. I can count for actions, these fools cannot. HCC is concerned as to why I did not attend my graduation. This is one of the many reasons why I did not attend. If I attended and they called my name I would have knocked somebody out. read more

If you can go to Lone Star then go to Lone star, i am a straight A student and this has been the worst experience ever. Teacher staff is limited and they all depend on Pearson or connect. They don't teach and will force you to buy a book you don't need, i had a teacher who would check everyday on students who did not buy the book, even though we never use it. This review primarily deals with HCC's dance program. So I just finished taking a 10-week ballet course at the Houston Community College Main Campus. It was the best $185 investment that I've made in a long time, and that's not an exaggeration. Now that I've finished my Master's and I'm out of school, I was looking for something to occupy my time. As an undergraduate, I thought about majoring in dance, but I backed out and did the more practical thing, which of course I totally regret now. But better late than never. I enrolled in Beginning Ballet I, which has gone down in my personal history as the hardest class of my life. For the money you pay, you get an amazing value. The dance instructors were all at one time professional dancers and they are still highly skilled in their craft. They take the time and show you the basics, while also integrating them into more complex choreographies that you must perform at intervals throughout the course. Also, it's 4-6 hours a week, depending on the time of the year that you take it. Most dance companies around Houston charge $12-$20 for a one-hour session, so do the math. You get so much more out HCC than you would by going to a dance studio. The drawback is that if you enroll in the class, you have to take the written exams, write two papers, and take the finals, but really, if you're interested in dance and what to learn the discipline from the inside-out, what's the big deal? I was freaked out by the prospect of performing in front of others for a grade, but your classmates are so encouraging, it's easy to get over the fear. I don't remember the last time I was so thrilled to make an A in a class. read more

Classes are on the smaller size and most instructors are very willing to help the students. The only downside is the admissions/advising employees aren't always as helpful as they could be and some have an awful attitude. read more

Moreover- The bookstore on Holman (Barnes & Noble) is the only HCC vendor-bookstore (I'm aware of) that does not pick up their phone line. It makes no sense, as it should be a prime habit to pick up the phone (at one of the busiest HCC campuses). Even the front desk reps. at the campus (across the street) are aware / upset of this / it creates more work / confusion. This is very bad, as the student populous consists of the disabled, professionals, and those without vehicles/hardship; needing further immediate assistance from the bookstore - over the phone. Also, signage of the hours through the different seasons needs to be made known to appropriate related staff (of both HCC staff and Barnes and Noble staff accordingly on the same page) / to students / and properly visible w/ the changing signage of business hours with each session/season, etc. Please take care of the necessary diverse channels of assistance to be provided. What's more, at Holman - a very large front desk clerk needs to be let go (has been here one too many years!). More specifically, proper attention to customer service needs to be correctly taught to front desk at this busy location of Holman Campus (very influential / important position). Monitoring employee performance falls into the same category. The Coleman Health and Science Center, on the other hand has an upstanding / outstanding older Caucasian woman that works on the weekends - more should look to her for high-quality example as to the embodiment of proper front desk professionalism. I've answered the survey above in reference to 'her' good service. Lastly, please paint large visable numbers on each of the wall levels in the parking garage at the Holman campus. This is a review for HCC in general, not a particular campus or teacher. If I was asked to describe HCC in one word, it would be "pathetic". HCC reminds me of the many severely underfunded public schools that are usually located in the worst neighborhoods. I've never had more difficulty trying to give someone my business in my life. First off all, for the major I'm in, HCC never seems to offer some of the classes I would need in order to complete my degree. I have also looked into a couple of different certificate programs, which also never seem to be offered. Ever. I attempted to reach out to the head of the department for my major, whose contact information is available on the webpage for the major, and despite sending several emails, I never once received a reply. I finally decided to call to speak to this person directly, and the little girl who answered the department phone kept trying to pawn me off to another department, insisting I was contacting the wrong department. I had to walk her through the webpage which clearly showed I had the correct department. She finally relented and agreed to take my contact information, but when I started to give her my phone number, she again balked, claiming they could not contact a non-local number (I'm from another city in Texas). Really? I asked her how they communicated with students who have moved to Houston from another state, or with international students? She tried to sputter an excuse, and I hung up on her. To this day, I have still never spoken with the head of the department I have been attempting to get in touch with. I can't get anyone here to help me, or answer my questions. This is supposed to be a PROFESSIONAL institution. Since all of this, I have transferred to Lone Star College, and the difference is night and day. LSC isn't perfect, but they are obviously spending their tax dollars where it matters. I have no idea what HCC spends their funds on, but it certainly isn't administration or classes that they supposedly offer. The educational difference is also night and day. HCC is a bit cheaper than Lone Star.... but you definitely get what you pay for. read more

I went to HCC (1300 Holman St) room 211 to try to take a test for ESL Class yesterday. There were two staffs in the room to organize the test. The woman was not very nice, but ok. The guy sucks! He was rude and seems he is a racism ( I doubt he would have treated me like this if I were an American citizen). He looks very young so I guess this is the first job he has ever had. Everyone who has to join ESL Class is from outside of the states. We are not good at English and are new in this country, if they are nice to students, that will be more helpful. I expect that the teachers in HCC will be much nicer than the staffs because I really don't want to spend my time and money in a place that don't respect foreigners. This college DEFINITELY NEEDS to improve their quality of service. read more

The worst college ever. Don't even. They gave me a financial aid award - six weeks after the start of the semester still didn't have the money in my bank account so I withdrew entirely. I made dozens of phone calls and kept getting the run around - the money is coming - week after week. It caused a world of hurt because part of the money was ear marked for rent - which I had to scramble to cover. It was the most degrading, frustrating, infuriating experience of my entire life. Do yourself a favor - move to another city to attend a community college or pony up the extra cash and attend a four year university. With regard to instruction - they teach to the dumbest person in the room (I had an assignment one week to prove I knew how to google - this was a Sophomore level English class where most of the students had been googling since kindergarten) - there is no challenge to the course work at all.
