this is a great place to spend an afternoon with the kiddos! it's located in a walkable area and there are plenty of places to eat and even a few shops. the houston toy museum also participates in the museums for all program, to making it more affordable for families. it was so cool to see some of the toys from my childhood. the gift shop area also has a lot of great toys! definitely worth checking out! happy adventures!

The Houston Toy Museum truly brought me back to my childhood days. From our first gaming system, Atari, to Rainbow Brite, The Simpsons, Barbie, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, to Raggedy Ann & Andy, and so much more it was a blast from the past. A few things I did not see much was Teddy Ruxpin, TRANSFORMERS, Ducktails and Jem. However, I do recommend a visit if you want to take a trip down memory lane. Street parking was a breeze. We loved the photo opps and the interactive toy section where you can play at your leisure.

such a cute/fun museum! as a toy collector i love seeing fellow collections of my hobbies. the gift shop offers a lot of unique pieces to add as well (pins, stickers, bags, trays, mugs, keychains). i've only been twice (once last year and once this year, 2025) and noticed that they do make minor updates to the exhibit! their instagram also shares paid events such as lego nights.

May 22, 2024 Came in from Galveston to see live music and stopped in here first [$15 entry fee-opened in 2022] The museum is 2 stories and has toys, dolls, games, etc. from the 1950s to the present. Upstairs are a few games to play and couches to sit on.

So heads up it's not a big place but it's not really small either. The gift shop is chock full of items and then the upstairs area of the museum has glass cases filled with toys from way back when like Cabbage Patch Kids and a Greyskull castle filled with characters. You could spend a lot of time looking at it all and feeling nostalgic about childhood. I didn't think I was that old but all the toys I played with seemed to be in the cabinets. There's an area for kids to play with Legos and large Lincoln logs and build Mr Potato heads. My toddler had a great time!

Can't believe I just now found out about this place. A legit museum showcasing all the toys of the past. They also have a small shop in the front where you can buy other random toys. We went for a pop culture trivia on a Thursday night. BYOB and food. Fun little event, that our team won! $40 gift card at the toy shop. Definitely stop by if you're walking around the West 19th area.

Not sure about this place It's almost like a play place for small kids with window collection that were from a yard sale And thkids play toys on the floor are either dirty /missing parts or both it's obvious no one ever cared for or cleaned tickets to get in here is $14 per person really should be used for maintaining this place at least sweep up the floor

What an amazing experience! I initially had bought tickets via Groupon since May and the expiration date was fast approaching so made my way there with a friend! It is a two storey small building in the Heights, located amongst a row of novelty stores and eateries, which was walkable too if you love within the vicinity. When you enter, a gift store welcomes you and the friendly owner before you enter the museum! I felt like a kid again seeing the display, especially toys from the 80s! I am marveled tjat the collection and donations were kept to good condition for us to enjoy! Loved that there was a Barbie Box, an illusion wall and the Beanie Babies wall!!! I personally loved the toys of the 1960s and got scared seeing The Shining Dolls and the victorian doll house! It dod bring back a ton of childhood memories! Perfect for kids and adults. They have an interactive section too where you can play video games, adult legos, board games and play with a lot of potato heads! Perfect to bring a guest too! Loved that they had a ton of FRIENDS items!!! Owner said majority were her husband's collections and grandma's!!!

What a wonderful and nostalgic collection! Loved this little gem of a museum. Owner was there and was happy to share his vision with us.

Cute museum to have that nostalgia experience. Definitely took me down memory lane. I wish the PAC-Man machine was working when I went in.

Loved this museum and the gift shop too! Both owners were great to talk to and very welcome and friendly. I can't wait to go visit again. Several set ups for fun photo opportunities.

This museum was so cute. The kids (3 and 5 yo) loved seeing all of the toys, but being able to play at the end was so much fun.

The Frida collection was extremely popular and that's where most of the museums visitors spent their time. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and wish I had more time to explore. They do have several dining options at the museum including a Michelin star French restaurant, Le Jardinier. The menu looks great and looks like they had a lunch 2 course option there for $45.

The security guards are rude as hell. Apparently you can't point at the art and god forbid you had your PAMPHLET open while you are walking. To the man who told me to close it, you are insufferable. The pamphlets are for the people and they can do whatever the hell they want with it. He must be so bored standing around doing nothing with his life that he decided to make an issue with my PIECE OF PAPER. The art is utter dog sh*t. I don't need to go to art school to say the art was awful. The art looks like someone took their poop and smeared it on canvas with scribbles. I think a toddler can create better art. Everyone looked so depressed to be working there which I can see why if I was staring at bullsh*t all day. I've been to so many art museums over the years and I have never had such an awful experience with the pieces and the staff. Rude staff, crap art. Only people who know nothing about art will enjoy this "collection". Make sure to not take pictures of the trash work, point at it, or have your pamphlet open because they will cause an issue with you.

Out of the the times we come by to this museum it was the showcase for owners collage artwork. Talk about being very lucky! The exhibit was top notch. I got air of ideas for art at this exhibit. Great ideas and pieces. This is a true gem in houston Texas. If you haven't stoped by don't be like me and wait 20 years. So glad I got to see her work. The museum is free. They sell merch so support them that way. I'll definitely keep this one in rotation as they change the exhibit every few months. Very happy we were able to stop by and see her work and mural. I will add the older lady at the front working the ticket booth needs to relax. dropping all these art names and organizations and acting all shocked like we didn't know who they were. Relax lady. We are not absorbed into the art scents like you are! Then she had the nerve to say something about someone winning some 400k award. She emphasized 400k. I wanted to say, is that the first time you seen 400k but I was trying to be more like god and let her make it.

There's a painting of Mrs. Jones, chihuahua, which she was introduced to us when we came in during our appointment time. For same-day appointments, you call to schedule. Anyway, she was so cute walking around the museum. We were told that the art changes every 4 months, so it'll be nice to come back and see what's new. I also want to see the art car parade next time. There's parking in front of the museum about 4 spaces like when you park in a driveway at home or street parking within walking distance that fits about 7 vehicles.

Parking was free across the street, but on a weekend, there wasn't any available spaces. We had to stop and wait on the lot for someone to move. When we walked to the museum, we noticed that there was a paid museum parking lot right in front of the main entry. The cost is only $8.00 and there were half of the spaces empty. Take note that admission is free on Thursday but you must make a reservation in advance, available in 30 minute reservation time blocks. These blocks allow you a 30 minute timeframe to enter but once inside, you're welcome to stay until close. After arriving, I was not surprised but still a little overwhelmed with the number of small children and families with baby strollers. As several other reviewers mentioned, this is really a Children's Health Museum with the exhibits featuring larger than life organs and elementary interactive displays geared towards a child. I'll admit I did enjoy walking around the displays such as the enormous human eye and massive beating heart, but wished there had been more information on modern medicine and some of the advances like prosthetic joints and transplantation. They did have a current exhibit featuring the rise of microplastics with a focus on the waste collection efforts at Buffalo Bayou and some statistics about Houston plastic usage. This was a nice touch to have a local feature. For logistics, the museum is located right in the middle of the museum district making it super easy to walk to other surrounding museums and some of the great parks and gardens in the area. It's just two or three blocks from the metro rail line and they do have parking onsite for $8 for all day parking. This is convenient but I honestly recommend just going with metered street parking. I paid just over $2 for an hour. Overall, a great spot for kids.
