In…read more1917 MFAH was dedicated by the Houston Public School Art League (later the Houston Art League) to become a public art museum. By gallery space, it is the 9th largest museum in the world, and the second-largest art museum in the Americas which I think is incredible. With over 80,000 pieces of art, the largest part of the museum's collection lie in areas of Italian Renaissance painting, Baroque painting, French Impressionism, photography, American and European decorative arts, African and pre-Columbian gold, American art, and post-1945 European and American painting and sculpture. They even have a section with African-American art and Texas painting. We came with a group of 5 on a Saturday as they opened and it was absolutely worth a visit. The Picasso special exhibits are here now and worth a look. Note: on Thursdays the museum is gratis and also for military families year round. Paid Parking in garage or a close walk from surrounding Hermann park.

MFAH is a vast space that houses an impressive collection of arts and artifacts. Among its renowned pieces are works by Monet, Van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Henri Matisse, and many more. The museum also features an Islamic Art Collection, Roman Catholic collection, and African Gold exhibit. Additionally, MFAH offers numerous immersive and interactive experiences for visitors. I particularly enjoyed walking through Ernesto Neto: SunForceOceanLife. A great experience for both adults and kids. Frida: The Making of an Icon, a captivating exhibition, graced the halls of MFAH in January and will leave May 17. This remarkable exhibition showcases over 30 works by the iconic artist. Among the treasures on display are her authentic dresses, back braces, corset, and boot, offering a glimpse into her life and artistic journey. If you are a fan, this is a must visit. You will not be disappointed. Note: Special exhibitions like Frida's is only $10 on Thursdays.

It is one of those places that can easily be a one and done. There is discounted weekday price starting at $19 for kids 3-12. Something tells me the $19 is if you buy it in advance. Meaning, not the day of. I paid $25 for the kids and $29 for myself online. The photo opps are what you make of it. Like for instance I've been to places where you press a button and the confetti drops down. For this, you have to actually throw the confetti up yourself. Good luck trying to figure this out with kids if you're looking for a good photo. They were also a bit underwhelmed with it. They loved the music room, the light bright room, and the balloon room. The goodies. It was cute. I'm trying bit to give the whole experience away if you are interested in going. It is best to pay for the ice cream online as it is a bit cheaper but not by much. Those cones were cute and delicious. I purchased the photo package. It really isn't necessary as you get to download the photos from a QR code you use when snapping the pics. There is a small parking lot near to it. If you wait for the group before you to leave then you can get a spot without an issue.

Tickets are timed so that the experience is not crowded. The museum is a fun and interactive experience. It consists of holograms and optical illusions. A vortex tunnel that you have to walk to that definitely made me lose my balance. Brain teasers, infinity rooms, trick photography and other cool ways to challenge one's perception could be found throughout the museum. Overall, the museum isn't very big, but it's definitely entertaining and a unique way to spend the afternoon, especially on a rainy day. I definitely enjoyed the experience.

We didn't book tickets ahead of time but it was easy to scan the QR code and purchase them on the spot. Age 4 & under are free. It is a self paced museum and there are several staff throughout which help you with various installations & how to position for the best photo op. They even have stools for the little ones. The exhibit is fun for all ages which is nice when you have kids at various ages & definitely enjoyable for adults! Our favorite were astronaut picture mirror illusion, spinning tunnel & life size 3D pin art impression wall. There are a lot of fun photo ops in an upside space shuttle room and when you flip the picture upside, it creates a cool effect. There are a lot of cool things we also picked up in the gift shop at the end. I highly recommend this museum for families! My kids were already wanting to go back as we were leaving!

The bar area is super cute, would be great for an evening date. The inside is pretty plain. When you sit down you are watching art come to life around you. Very immersive. The sound is amazing and envelopes you. It is a beautiful 30 min show. But then that's it. You can take pics and videos. VIP gets you a cushion that is about an inch thick & they have benches with cushioned seating.. You also get a priority entrance, but it wasn't busy when I went. I was the only person in the VIP line and the people on the other side of the divider were a family of 3, so it wasn't too busy on their side either. They have a black curtain entrance for VIP, so if you want that.. spend the extra money to have someone open a curtain for you. I was disappointed in the VIP portion of the experience, but the staff were great and the show was nice. I wouldn't pay to do this again.

It took us far longer to drive there than the time to see the show. We also went, previously, to see the Van Gogh experience at the Marqee which had so much more interactive experiences. They had recreations of Van Gogh's paintings where you were able to immerse yourself and lay on a bed of the recreated "Bedroom at Arles". They also explained a lot of the paintings and during the multimedia big room presentation there were narrations (totally missing at the Lighthouse). There was also a coloring experience where we were able to draw with crayons and upload it to the screens at the Marqee. The Marqee experience far exceeded expectations. All in all, the Monet Immersive Experience at Lighthouse lacks activities and experiences that we expected. I would not waste my money on seeing either the Van Gogh or Monet at Lighthouse.

They have handwashing stations at the start and after the build-your-own-slime bar. The only things I didn't like about it were the smells could be very strong because the slimes are fragranced with different cool smells. Some of us were feeling a little bit headache-y or nauseous or weird by the end, probably from the smells. This place is probably a one-and-done for us. Fun but the smells were a bit overwhelming, and even after washing our hands, our hands still smelled very fragranced after we left, which was irritating for some of us.
