I would like discuss some of the concerns some patients have. 1) how many primary care physicians still take care of their patients when they are admitted to the hospital? Answer, very few, and being one of the few physicians I have to say, when patients are at their most ill, or perhaps on their literal death bed in the hospital, there is comfort with both patient and family that their doctor who has known them for so many years is there at their side and taking care of them in their last hours. Don't believe me? There are many family's of patients who would love to speak to you out there, if you are truly interested I will be happy to share their info as they always appreciate the extra time given to them in the hospital setting. 2) how many primary care physicians are open 7 days a week? That's right, not feeing well on Sunday afternoon, want your physical on a Saturday, or how about late office hours so you can be seen after work and not take off from work? Yes we are open every day and often until 8pm. 3) front desk issues? Yes! Of course! EVERY office on planet earth has front desk issues! We try and work on them, fire and re hire, it is a perpetual issue always trying to be improved upon. 4) hmm billing and insurance issues? In case you haven't noticed, medical insurance companies may be one of the worst things ever created to deal with.. ever! Sometimes they cover things, sometimes they don't? Sometimes the doctor gets paid, sometimes we don't. In fact many times we don't which we accept as part of the medical world. However when a patient comes in with a $5,000 deductible and doesn't know what that means, ( it means even if you come in for a sore throat, that visit is not covered until the $5,000 has been paid out to the physician first) so that 150$ charge for the sore throat, or that holter monitor for your palpitations, will be the patients complete responsibility every time until they have paid $5,000..got it? 5) wait times? Let me share a secret. No wait times at 8, 9, and often even 10am but yes in the middle of the day or early evening, there will be wait times. Physicians who work in both and office and hospital setting can get backed up given the fact that he hospital never closes, the patients there are very sick, and often other specialists are calling the physician to coordinate care, nursing staff calls the physician for questions, family members of dying patients call the physician wanting answers to questions. All of these phone calls, jumping from a patient room back to a computer to place urgent orders are all part of a physician who takes care of patients in the office and hospital setting. If you are a patient who has had expedited care through the er, or required surgery where your surgeon was waiting for you in the er when you arrived, it is possible the person who has a cough in the room might wait a little longer while the physician is trying to assist in the saving of a life in the hospital. This is not just a regular outpatient clinic, we take care of patients from head to toe. If someone comes in for allergies but the doctor notices an enlarged thyroid coincidentally then yes a sonogram will be ordered (trust me it's NOT for the money as a physician will net about 10$ for this test$) it's about YOU the patient! For whatever reason there is a high incidence of thyroid cancer on Long Island! Without exaggerations we diagnose on average 1 case of thyroid CANCER every week! With in house cardiologist we have prevented thousands of heart attack's of asymptomatic patients. So much more can be said, but not necessary. I know how well we take care of patients, particularly patients who have been seeing us for 35 years, whose children and grandchildren now see us. Having gone out of my way innumerable times to tend to patients concerns, and since much of it seems unappreciated based on some of these reviews, I thought a rebuttal was warranted. I just wanted to take the time to show my appreciation to Dr Howard and Dr Jared. In these times people always will say something negative because something didn't go your way. People don't spend their time mentioning what good someone did or do. Both of these gentlemen saved my life and are straight shooters. They have great knowledge and bed side manner. My wife and her family have used this practice for many years. Some times you might have to wait longer than you want but then why are you going to them? I'll tell you because they are some of the best doctors you are going to find. My mother in law was in the hospital recently we were worried and she was nervous . We weren't able to go to be with her because of this virus yet Dr. Jared and Dr Howard keep us updated and Dr. Jared held her hand and kept her calm . When she got home she was bragging about them both. Look no matter who you go to you are going to have bad times. How about we start to mention what they do good because I'm sure it outweighs the bad. I work in the retail business and only will hear about what we did wrong and not what we did good. Babylon medical practice is one of the best. I have had many doctors in the past that were not as good. I see some people saying negative things about Dr. Howard, Dr. Jared and their employees. Let me just say because of this practice, care and knowledge I would probably not be here. The concern and care I get from people like Jaclyn , Dr Jared, Dr. Howard and many others associated with them is by far the best. Why then for the 4 stars? Because yes you might have to wait or someone might have a bad day. Are you always in a positive mood or dont have a bad day? So if you dont like them move on don't waste their time. Chances are your next doctor will be calling on them for advice. I work for a company that deals with members that are not always the nicest and treat us like crap. We take it because the few negative are not as many as the positive. I hear all the time I'm going to your competitor and I see them a week or two later. Beware this doctor Howard Hertz and his practice is all about the money. This doctor sent me for a scan I did not need that will probably end up costing me my life and this is no lie. I had perfect health previous to this scan. This quack ordered a highly invasive scan for a cough when he could have ordered a simple less invasive chest xray and he could have ruled out othe causes such as bronchitus a cold the flue etc. Trust me he is very dangerous.He ordered this invasive test simply because it afforded him the option to more money. When I came back in bad shape after the scan very ill, he simply dismissed it all and said it would probably pass. This quack has cost me my life and he is lucky to live after this. Run for your life and if I pass and see this idiot in the next life he will be getting a beatdown. I was an outstanding athlete absolutely healthy and now Ill probably pass away. I cannot even wash my car without being exhausted. Karma is a bitch and oneday he will get his. I have filed complaints against him. I pray I get better but I doubt I will. read more

This was the worst facility I've gone to in many years. Office staff all seem disinterested and poorly trained, Office Manager is doctor's wife and patients not able to contact her (Assistant Office Manager, Laura, is useless)! I was incorrectly told that I needed to pay a $198 Medicare Deductable or I could not be seen! I insisted that my Supplemental Plan covered it but no one would verify for me! It took many phone calls and aggravation before I was sent a refund...almost a month later with no apology! On my initial exam I was asked my medications by two different people before I finally saw Dr Hertz who asked for it again. I politely expressed my annoyance being asked the third time and he replied 'because I'm the boss'! Apparently laptops aren't used! Lastly, the waiting area had two large TV's with a blasting jazz concert! I commented to others around me and was told that there was no point in complaining as you'll just get told 'this is what the doctors like' and that is was also on in each exam room! read more

I haven't visited Dr. Hertz since I moved to Ithaca in 2004. Yes, he likes classical music. Yes, he makes the patients wait, sometimes a long time. However, I also remember years ago when I worked in NYC, I'd call and ask for the last appointment as I knew I wouldn't make it home before 8. No matter how late it was, I was always told to come in. I did. I liked the classical music. I liked the upscale TV programs. I didn't mind waiting. I waited so other people could have the time they needed with the doctor. I now live in Ithaca, NY. Every time I visit a doctor's office, I wish my current doctors had the compassion Dr. Hertz had all of those years ago. I wish when I was hospitalized that Dr. Hertz would visit, not a service that they have up here. The medical care in other areas is so sub-standard in comparison to the care I received from Dr. Hertz, trust me, there is no comparison. I would wholeheartedly recommend him, no matter how old he gets. He is a GREAT doctor. read more

My family and I have been going to Doctor Hertz for over 30 years. On several occasions we have had medical emergencies and these doctors and their staff were incredible getting to the bottom of the injury and or illness, putting an excellent team together of specialists and overseeing and taking care of our issues like no other. In April 2018, I was at work in the morning and began experiencing sharp pain on my right side. I called Dr. Hertz's office and went to see him asap. After Dr. Hertz examined me, he told me he thought it was my appendix and to go directly to the hospital. I was admitted to the hospital and had tests. Dr. Hertz reviewed my test results and contacted the surgeon. I was immediately prepared for surgery and had my appendix removed. The next day Dr. Hertz came to see me and told me that it was caught just in time. Dr. Hertz saved my life. I feel blessed to have Dr. Hertz as my primary care doctor for over 30 years. I have been a patient of this practice for several years and have seen every practitioner in the office. The doctors and PAs are beyond phenomenal. They are caring, detailed, and are always able to make me feel better when I come in for sick visits. The staff is just as excellent. I am able to get appointments quickly and if need be that very same day. The receptionists, while usually busy, will stop what they're doing to tend to me and make sure any questions I have are answered. The medical assistants and nurses also deserve praise for their warmth and kindness when they bring me into a room. I could not recommend this practice enough. I have had the good fortune to be a patient of both Dr. Howard Hertz and Dr. Jared Hertz. Both of theses physicians have helped me through some difficult medical problems. When I was diagnosed with cancer I found that I always had someone to turn to to express my fears and concerns. Their advice and compassion helped me through that difficult time. I consider there devotion to their patients above and beyond what I have experienced with other physicans. While in the hospital I found it comforting to have them visit me. I think this office is a great asset to the Babylon area. Dr. Hertz and staff are great and the office is beautiful. I have read the rude comments and with great disgust I think that Dr. Hertz didn't need them as patients anyhow. For the years that my parents have been coming to his practice, I have not once seen the front staff act "extremely rude" or "gossip." I know because I have been transporting them throughout the years. I am the one on the phone making the appointments for them, never once was I left waiting on hold for a long period of time. I've been going to Babylon Medical Practice for many years and the care is excellent. I have seen all of the staff at one time or another and have not had problems with any of them. I went in for a kidney stone and fortunately due to their thoroughness they found that I also had lung cancer. Being this was caught early it most likely saved my life. I am now going for treatments to fight this and in addition to my surgeon, oncologist and radiologist it gives me peace of mind to know that Dr. Hertz is looking over all of my results and has my back. I can genuinely say jaclyn and dr. jared have both helped me through periods of thick and thin, not only with myself, but my family. Dr. Howard Hertz has been my doctor for close to 30 years. He is one of a kind whose diagnostic skills are exceptional while being down to earth and compassionate. He is my doctor and friend. I entrust the health of my entire family to him - there is no greater accolade than that! Two years ago he diagnosed my prostate cancer through an MRI which is usually denied for that purpose but he got it approved. This early diagnosis lead to successful treatment. I would highly recommend this office to anyone who is looking for thorough good medical care. I have been a patient for 10 years and have learnt that the reason there is a wait or the phones are busy is because its an office that really cares about its pts.
