So I came in with another colleague, she is there for a haircut and I am there for eyebrow threading. The shopfront is only about 1.5 metres wide so it's easy to walk past or undermine this salon, but once you walk in you will find a long narrow salon with a separate area at the back and beautician of the house Rimi does her magic upstairs. The hairdresser listened to my friend's request and did a good job cutting and thin layering her super thick hair. She was told the story that this salon's specialty is hair extension and they love doing colours. My eyebrow threading+tinting was a lovely experience and both of us walked away happy and with a $20 voucher each for next visit. Friendly staff, lovely service, satisfied clients. If I didn't have to cross the bridge to get here, this will be my local salon.

Run by Lorenzo, who emigrated from the South of Italy around 40 years ago, Lygon Hairdressers does a killer haircut for $20. Not only do you get a great no nonsense cut, but you also get a close shave of your neck and the back and sides of your hair with a razor blade. Lorenzo is a pretty easy-going bloke who likes a good yarn spun. If you are in the mood for a good chat then he's quite talkative. Similarly, if you are not in the mood for small talk then he's happy to keep quiet too. Plenty of regulars here of all ages is testament to the quality of the cut and the professionalism shown. There are no appointments taken so it's done by walk-ins. It's also only a ten-minute walk from Melbourne uni and if you are a student then you can get a cut for $18.

I'm glad I did! I went from brown to blonde. The colour is even and is the shade I was looking for. Jessie cut my hair just as I asked and made sure I was happy before I left. She also gave me green tea and a little snack which I thought was a nice touch. Their prices are reasonable for a city salon. They take their time making sure everything is perfect, so make sure to plan ahead. For a men's cut & wash, it took me between around 60 minutes, and up to 90 minutes. You won't want to leave, but I've warned ya! The prices are definitely higher (for a men's cut) than any other salon I've been to, but worth it for the BEST haircut of your life.
