Great place, but I wanted to give it 3 stars. Why? Drinks. The cover charge here is more than reasonable ($8 or so) but once inside you get knocked over if you buy anything to drink. This place could make an AMAZING bar with some nice cocktails and a decent beer selection, but they go for typical Miami spot garbage (vodka-cranberries, etc) and charge you big bucks for it. Last time Ms C got a diet coke for about $6. Charge me more outside the door and be fair with the drinks. Otherwise, the place is wonderful, people had a good time without really crowding up the space or otherwise being obnoxious and Spam AllStars are the Spam Allstars. read more

I must admit I believe I have only been here on Thursday nights for the Spam or something of that genre. But on those nights it is a blast! The crowd is mixed but mostly Hispanic and few people stop dancing. When it gets too hot and sweaty you can sneak out past the bathrooms in the back where there is always a few people taking a break in a parking lot like fenced in area. Entrance is free or reduced before 11pm. The crowd is very friendly and its a very different scene from what you'll find in most of your average Miami dancing clubs. Ok so several years ago when I was single I stumbled on this Thurs late night spot. The bar is the worse so don't get fancy they will give you a rum & coke no matter what you order. But this place is not for drinking it is for dancing and a major stress relief! I have never gone and not come out of there sweating and with a huge smile the music is Afro cuban and on thurs a band called Spam allstars play. This is the most unique band I have ever heard but they JAM! The cover is something like 7 or 8 dollars after 11:00 before 11:00 it is a ghost town. Prepare to stay till about 3:00am because once you start you won't stop. To the single guys out there you wanna make an impression do what I did. 1 st start with drinks at the Conrad Hotel in down town then take her here the contrast will make her go nuts has many of them did I even married the last one I took lol! read more

Thursday's live music was amazing coupled with a bit of salsa. I loved the atmosphere and truly felt as if I were transported to Havana. It's definitely an intimate space and will always be on my list whenever I'm in Miami. The cover was $10 and was totally worth it. read more

I'm soo glad I found this place. The live music is great. Its nice to hear good live music. The crowd that come here is so upbeat and its a fun place to dance and listen to good spanish music. A fantasy for this Miami gringa. Like Duffy's Tavern but with an amazing 6 piece salsa band. Terrible service. Their isnt even a bar. I dont know where the staff goes to retrieve beverages. Its about the music. The DJ and the stage for live music were more important. Gotta respect that. Very fun. With Cubans you are immediately at home so stop by. read more

Unique little place with a very Cuban heart. I recently went on a Wednesday night and enjoyed the most unbelievable dark house music ever with the DJ spinning to the background of old Cuban films. Then El Chino DreadLion came to the stage and rocked the night along with Oscar G with a fusion of reggae, Afrocuban rhythms and house beats. What a spectacle! El Chino is a one show man and he was nicely complemented by a guy at the drums and and the piano. I can't wait to experience Thursday and Friday nights which bring a different theme. read more

Hoy como Ayer is the place to go to when visiting Miami. They present sold-out performances by renowned local and international artists on Fridays and Saturdays. We've also enjoyed latin, funk, hiphop (ie, Spam AllStars) on Wednesdays or Thursdays, as well as an event called "Esencia", where seasoned and promising songwriters alike perform. It just doesn't get any better! The City of Miami just recognized its owner, Fabio Diaz-Vilela, whose dedication and entrepreneurship has blown Hoy como Ayer to an international level. August 24th is now aka "Hoy como Ayer Day". Congratulations to Fabio and his staff for making our lives so much more enjoyable! read more

Disappointing... First time we wanted to come here from people out of town - we made a reservation - and when we arrived were told that the place was closed because they rented it out for a movie.... Then tonight, I called and specifically asked at what time the music would start... They answered at 11:00- at midnight they had not started... And charged us 20 dollars for seating in the front row... Infront of an empty stage! read more

Ridiculous! So fun! Everything we had hoped for when visiting from CA. SPAM AllStars were amazing! HIGHLY recommend going on a Thursday night to see them. If you ever want to check this place out, just be aware that, for instance, if there is an internationally known band/singer (I.e. India or something like that) that they usually have a completely unknown cover band playing for up to 2 hrs before the actual artist you paid money for starts performing. When I made my reservation was never told this was the case and ended up just seating there for a couple hours listening to a nobody (total waste of my time!). Also, the place is freezing cold; no reason why the air conditioning should be that high! The food was on par with the cold cuts counter at a chain grocery store! In summary, if you are looking for the coldest place you can imagine in Miami and want to end up listening to a nobody-band play cover songs for like two hours before actually getting to listen to the artist you pay money to see, this may be just the place for you. read more

SPAM ALLSTARS are awesome, hands down. Ive been listening to them for years, and if you haven't, Thursday night is your night to see for yourself. They are 5 feet in front of you and you can feel the energy off of them, get lost in the picture and light show kids. The crowd is very diverse but its super laid back. My girlfriend and I had 8:30 p.m. reservations for dinner. So we thought. When we arrived( a bit late at 8:40p.m.), we were surprised to see that there was a comedian performing(all in Spanish) until 9:00p.m. There was no dinner, they only had appetizers - so we had a plate of lunch meat and cheese. The mojito's were terrible and had no liquor in them and were $12 each ! The first performer was scheduled at 10:00 p.m. and the second at 11:00p.m. We were so looking forward to the live music and dancing as this was our last night in Florida. 10:00 p.m. came, 10:30, 11:00 and no sign of any music. We asked what was happening with the line up for the evening and they said the music will be starting any minute. At 11:30 p.m. I had to ask for my bill because we needed to catch our flight back early the next morning. When we received the bill, it was $180.00 ! The plate of lunch meat was $22, the mojito's each were $12 and we each had a Presidente' beer for $10 each. The cover charge was $45.00 each ! OMG ! Side note: The state of Florida automatically adds an 18% "gratuity" to your bill. I obviously refused to pay the full amount of $180.00 because we saw 15 minutes of a comedian we could not understand and no entertainment. It took them a while to honor my request as I explained our need to leave as it was going on midnight and still no live music ! I would not recommend this place of business to anyone. read more

We are avid salsa dancers and Latino's so we are used to all sorts of clubs from very nice classy ones to not so great ones. The music was fantastic, the club itself was quaint, but the service.... man. I have never experienced such poor service. I wonder if that just goes w/the Miami theme, everywhere I went it was horrendous service. Or perhaps after living 6 years in Texas, I've just gotten used to good customer service and just people who have good manners. They treated us like crap there, very sneaky. We went to a show that was packed, we had made reservations for it. We arrived a bit early, the girl at the door was horribly rude and told us she was busy to wait (she was putting flyers in the menus). After she got through the 50 menu's she asked some guy to come help us. The young man escorted us in and sat in the furthest table, literally touching the back wall. We were the 3rd couple there, lots of tables were free. When we asked for another, he told us that we would need to pay more. We asked why, he said the rates had gone up. Yet when other folks came in, we asked them how much they paid, it was the same amount we had paid. So they were blatantly lying to us. It was just ridiculous. The venue & music are great, but the service is despicable, I'm amazed there are business like this. I will not be returning if I ever visit Miami again. read more
