If you are having trouble with your boat or your current shop, don't trust this place to set you right. I have this shop two chances foolishly, don't do that. They claimed to perform work that wasn't my performed, collected the money and then ghosted me and stopped responding when I asked what was up. This wasn't "oh they missed it" this was a situation where I brought boat in to work on the fuel tanks and drain them and when I took it home...old tanks full of bad gas and no response to texts or calls anymore. Poor workmanship and even lied about how work completed. I brought my boat in for my front boat windshield separating from the bottom around the boat. A boat with this type of issue requires a flexible glue to hold as well due to vibration. I even asked if they used this type of glue, answer yes. See for yourself. read more

Please don't use this boat shop. They give you a estimate of 16-20hrs than they try to bill you for 30hrs. Don't play there game. I know for 100% that the boat was worked on for 16hrs. I was there when his mechanic started it tues at 9 am and i was there when he finished it wens at 1 pm. The owner has the nerve to tell me that i should not be talking to his mechanic. That's great i would love to talk to the owner but i went to the shop 4 times in past week and he is never there. Not real happy with this shop. Took boat in for 2 issues. A leaky hull and boat wouldn't turn over. Turns out the battery was not holding a charge. 2 hours of labor charged to diagnose the bad batter. Was told it was an "electrical" issue in addition to the battery. Right. I asked mechanic to show me the electrical issue he solved. He advised it was in housing inside outboard motor. Asked him to show me and he couldn't. Pointed to a wire housing that looked to have never been accessed. I asked what he did and he said he "reconnected a loose wire". Maybe. When he couldn't access the housing to show me I had doubts it was anything but a bad battery. $310 for labor plus the new battery. Another 1.5 hours to fill the boat and advise the hull did indeed have a leak and would be $4000+ to weld. They needed to pull apart the boat to weld inside and out. 3 days labor was estimated. Seemed high. Told owner that i would see about getting repaired under warranty. Paid over $650 for a new battery replacement and confirmation the boat had a leak. My fault for not filling the boat with a hose and for not taking battery to AutoZone and testing the battery. $650+ mistake I won't make again and hopefully no one else will either. This is the closest marine repair shop to me. They could have earned future business and a positive review. read more

Total scam artists. I was so excited when I thought I finally found a place to fix my Jet Skiis. They told me they knew that type of machine really well. BOY WAS I SCAMMED! After hours of trying to diagnose the problem, I realized they really did not know what they were doing. I never write reviews on anyone, and don't do social media or any type of review apps, so I'm using my daughters yelp account to get the word out- that's how angry they made me. This is more of a warning to anybody that needs repairs on their watercraft. This cost me hundreds of dollars for absolutely NOTHING!! Please don't get taken like I did. Dishonest! Avoid this place at all costs (literally ha). Brought my boat in with a list of concerns to be addressed - was advised of a $115 diagnostic fee. Paid and waited a further week before hearing back. When i did hear back, none of my concerns were addressed. Not only that, but I received outrageous labor quotes (6 hours to rebuild Carb), (2.5 hours to replace choke solenoid on the side of the carb), (7 hours for a water impeller) with an understanding that it still may not run right (2.5k worth of work). When asked to justify these trumped up numbers. The owners response was "you don't have to approve the work". He clearly never looked at the boat and had to go out and look while we were still on the phone as i explained why it was outrageous. I denied the estimate and advised we would be picking up the boat. When we did come to pickup the boat - they charged an additional $50+ and we found the engine bracket damaged. Fortunately they did not provide a written estimate nor had one signed by us as required by California law §§ 410-418. First of all I wanna tell you that my boat is in marina del Rey, which is about an hour away from this shop, but I tell you, it was worth the relatively long drive. I had two shops with great ratings look at it and they were slow (I mean one place kept the outboard for one month and half!!!) and did not fix the motor. One of them even broke a screw creating a big issue. The folks at Lake side were the best, most efficient, friendly, no bs, pain free experience I ever had dealing with boat issues. I took a chance and it paid off, cost wise also, way cheaper. If you are at MDR, I encourage you to try this alternative, other than the slim options down here at MDR. read more

I brought my 1978 Southwind jet boat in after 14 years of it sitting in a friends yard and Amir fixed up the engine like new. He was very honest what he could and could not do and the pricing at each step. The only down part is that he did not provide any extra gas when it was time to check my boat out. His guys did pump gas in the engine to run it, but that was it. Overall I would recommend others to use this place as they know what they are doing. read more

Don't go here!! They are incompetent, dishonest, unprofessional and more. I took two boats to them because I heard they were good. Big mistake. I told Chardonnay that I needed to have my trailer wheel bearings packed and that my trolling motor and fish finder were not working. A week later she sent me an email saying that the "Trolley Motor" (It's a boat, Chardonnay, not a street car!) needs to be replaced and the cost would be $1619.99 plus 4 hours of labor $460.00= $2079.99. I answered that I couldn't afford to have them do the trolling motor but to go ahead and pack the wheel bearings. I am 69 years old and have had a dozen or more trailers in my life. I am NOT a mechanic. I used to pack the bearings myself but for the last 20 years or so I have been taking them in. It's usually about a 1 - 2 hour job at most. When I got the bill it was 6 hours ($690.00) in labor to pack 4 bearings on a small trailer! The bill also included $115.00 "Diagnostic Labor" on my trolling motor which could not possibly have been more than pressing the "on" button and seeing that the propeller did not spin. I took the trolling motor to a real repair facility and they simply replaced the lower unit for $470.00. It took me about 40 minutes to remove it and about 30 minutes to replace it. They were going to charge me 4 hours of labor for that alone. My other boat basically got a $920.40 tune up on a standard V-8 engine which would probably been around $250-$300 at a reputable shop. All in all, they charged me $1,794.06 (This included a $172.50 "preferred customer discount" (LOL) for work that should have been no more than $953.19. They over charged me $840.87! They will really gouge you on "diagnostics" and labor. This does not include the extra $679.99 that they wanted to charge me for the trolling motor. COMPLETE SCAM ARTISTS! read more

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! When I stopped in to HP Marine, it was the week before July 4th - so you know their shop was BUSY! I needed to sell my boat, but it had been sitting for 3 years and was not water-ready. My buyers wanted to know the boat was sound - and they were driving from NorCal. I was pretty sure HP Marine would not be able to fit me in for the summer, but I had to try! They knew I was in a tight spot, they worked with me, somehow found some time to give my boat the TLC it needed and communicated with me every step of the way. My boat was ready later that day, we put it on the water at Castaic, and my buyers were on the road home... done and done!
