My Yamaha 115 was running rough so I took it to Lakeside Boats for diagnosis and repair. The office staff was very friendly and helpful and the mechanic (George) quickly diagnosed the issue as a fouled spark plug. He also checked the fuel injectors and fuel pump to ensure everything else was good. They completed the work the same day and even washed off my boat for pickup. I took my boat to Lakeside Boat & Marine for service after they offered a cash discount. Later, they contacted me to inform me of a price increase, but provided no written breakdown or justification for the change. I accepted the higher amount in good faith. Upon pickup, they insisted on cash-only payment, despite the price change and my willingness to pay by card. I explained I didn't have sufficient cash due to the unexpected increase. They refused to RELEASE my boat or accept a card payment. I was forced to involve local law enforcement. When the sheriffs arrived, they confirmed that the business could not legally refuse card payment under these circumstances. Despite this, the staff and ownership were hostile, unprofessional. They have no transparency and raises legality of their billing practices. I would caution others before doing business here. Document everything. read more

I thought I had given a review 2yrs ago after having our boat reupholstered, apparently I did not! We were EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED THEN & will never go back!!!! Here are 2 of our seats 2 years after having upholstery done at Lakeside! We ALREADY had to take the seats elsewhere for repair & the pictures below are what was uncovered! Also, instead of using foam in these seats, it was found that Lakeside used "stuffing" for what basically is used in pillows! What a freaking joke! I never write reviews but in this case, I am so pissed off, I had to. This place was OK when Ed was there. Apparently they pissed him off too...not surprised. After setting an appointment that was about a month out, I brought my boat in back in April, needed a simple linkage replacement and also wanted to make sure it was ready to go for the next outting. I keep my boat in my garage, on trickle charger, not outside. I take care of my stuff. I finally got a day off, hitched up the boat, all of the gear, etc. and headed up to Pyramid. I get there, boat will not start. After trying for about an hour to get it started, I had no choice but to give up. Decided to stop by Lakeside on my way home to see if they could take a quick look. I told the gal at the counter I was frustrated that I had just spent several hundred dollars and that my boat was not running. Didn't mater, ....I needed to set another appointment which was another month out. OK, I set the appointment. At no time was I an a-hole. Sure, I wasn't having a good day but figured I would give them another chance. I proceeded to leave but then thought, maybe I could fix what I thought was a simple fuel hose issue. I walked back in and started to grab a few parts off the wall.... prepared to spend about $150....then this ..... decided to let me know that I only spent (less money) than I mentioned in the first conversation... essentially making sure she was "correcting me". I was already pissed off, kept it to myself and decided to leave and not purchase anything... 5 minutes later, my phone rings and she proceeded to tell me she has to cancel my appointment, they can't work in my boat due to its age. Funny, they worked on it three times before that to the sum of at least $3000. She wanted to argue with me about that too. OK. This pissed me off even more. I called her back and asked if she would refund the last $175 I spent....of course her answer was no... and I knew it would be. Bottom line here folks, the customer is always right, even when they are wrong. She has ZERO customer service skills, ZERO communication skills and just lost what was until that encounter, a happy customer. I'm an average guy and at no time did I raise my voice or be condescending to her. I didn't deserve to be challenged about my minor exaggeration of previous money spent on last visit...it's not about that....but she made a point to make sure I was wrong. As others have left similar reviews, all I can say is, buyer beware. One by one their customer base will evaporate. Ed, you were the glue holding that place together...glad you saw the writing in the wall and got away from people that have ZERO clue on how to run a business. Lakeside Boat and Marine has worked on my boat MANY.times. The needed repairs were either a result of my negligence or just routine maintenance. They are the most HONEST, knowledgeable, courteous, reasonable priced boat repair shop. They ALWAYS go out of their way to help me. They are well aware I lack any mechanical knowledge. I would be an easy person to take advantage of.. Even if it is a quick fix that they can repair in the parking area they come out and do the repair quickly. I get EXCELLENT service EVERY time. Unbelievable rip off! I brought my boat in for a very simple WARRANTY repair. I had already contacted Mercury and was assured that the repair was in fact covered under their warranty. After explaining the issue to the repair rep I was told that there would be a $150 diagnostic fee. At first I was upset, so I asked them if it was the warranty issue if they would waive the fee? NOPE. They want to double charge! Unreal! I immediately left and then called back about 15 minutes later to let them know I would be leaving them a negative review online. I wanted them to know exactly why I was upset. Never received a follow up call from the owner as promised. I will NEVER go back! read more

Had my Bass boat sounding and running better than she ever has. My boat has always idled rough. But after Lester did my service. Bernadette (My Boat), was running strong and was so quit at idle. I was having problems with my 15 HP outboard in the idle position. I went to Lakeside about it and told him I needed the carburetor looked at. He told me worst case, $150 parts and labor to rebuild and adjust the carburetor. I said do it. 5 days later he calls me and now its $280 because the carb kit is $160. I know carb kits don't run that high especially for a 15 HP engine. I told him I would pick up the engine. He charged me $60 for nothing. I told him what the problem was he did nothing to repair it and charged me $60. Next time I feel like throwing money away I will see him. read more

I needed a new steering seal kit for my engine this weekend. I called around a few other shops and they charge about $100 for the kit. Online you can order it for $92. Since I was in the area and Lakeside was closest, I decided to head down there. They wanted $165 for the kit! How can a shop mark price up so much for parts?! I told them what other shops charged as well and showed them online pricing. They could care less. If you need parts and decide to purchase them from here, expect to pay a serious markup in excess of 50%. A few of my friends have also gone here and experienced the same thing. -If I could give negative stars I would- I bought my Dad an old fishing boat and the throttle was a little sticky. My boat mechanic was out of town, so accordingly on my way North, I stopped by Lakeside Boat & Marine to get their thoughts on the problem. Gideon, the owner, took one glance at the throttle assembly and said it would have to be replaced. I commented I was surprised he didn't want to take a look inside the throttle to see if something was binding or catching, you know, a cheap fix. He didn't even entertain the idea and then opened a catalog to show me the $600 throttle assembly I should buy. I laughed, said thanks for the help and walked out the door. The next day I took a look at the boat and realized the throttle cam actuator was cracked and the push screw was not able to open the carb up to full throttle. In closing, the binding wasn't even in the throttle assembly Gideon said I needed to replace, and all the boat needed was a $20 throttle cam. Moral of the story...only use a mechanic you trust and don't use Lakeside Boat & Marine. Cheers read more

I recently took my triumph center console to lake side boat and marine .Becouse my yamaha f70 was running terrible.I was a little nervous couse of reading some of these reviews online.But they were the only shop in my area that can hook up Diagnostic on yamaha.So I gave them a shot,so so glad I did they did a few minor repairs which made my boat run like a champ.I have absolutely no complaint my boat was ready to go in a day They took the time to discuss my motor with me .While I was trying to throw more money at it they just told me take it out first so I did and couldn't be happier will deffinitly be taking my boats and motors there from now on.Great people and great service. read more

Nice personally but questionable competence , standards, and ethics. For 100 hr service or 10 months, replaced sparks, impeller, filters, etc. none of these were worn. Another Yamaha service center notes replacement not required. Next trip before leaving harbor impeller seized destroying casing, gaskets, etc (just prior motor was started under forced water injection). With appointment took them. One week to do service. Slow to service and no proactive updates. Took week to fix impeller seize. No effort to quickly source part which I was able to do their behalf in 10 minutes. They also broke under deck bilge pump when I know they were working there (and it worked before I brought it in after cleaning out hold from initial gas residue to tune of a hundred gallons). They said it was just broke and Charged me double retail and installation without asking for approval. No concept of customer service. In both cases, they missed gas tank leak where there was strong gas smell and a gallon of gas in boat hold. After agreeing for them to drain gas tank, they took another week to start process when they said they would start same day. They found leak but did not bother to circle the source of the leak before draining the tank. read more

These guys know what they're doing and they do it fast. Took my boat in for a water leak turned out to be my transom seal. They called me gave me a quote, I gave them the okay and 2 days later calls me and let's me know the boat is done and ready to go engine had to come out and so did the transom. Picked the boat up and the engine was cleaned and detailed. If you need your boat fixed I recommend Lakeside boats & marine 1000%, nice people, honest, they do good work and prices are fair, gave me a quote start to finish and stayed within that quote. Found out about this place through ZLF Board and referred by friends from the ZLF members. Took my boat there to replace my trolling motor, install two fish finders, and few maintenance on my boat. I dealt with the owner, Gideon...very nice guy and knowedgeable. Service was quick, mechanics there were professional & courteous. I introduced one of my buddies here at the same time and he ended up buying a consigned boat and have it all rigged out. He then sold the boat and now buying another boat and having Gideon do all the inspections and rigg it out for him. It's hard to find a good mechanic who is trustworthy and honest. Glad I took my boat here. I will be taking my boat this week again to have Gideon reupholster one of the bench seats and modify it so that I could remove the cushion. I also found out Gideon went to the same high school as lot of my buddies...small world. read more

Totally got scammed at this place. Owner Sergio said they were certified Suzuki repair shop. Guaranteed 100% he could diagnose and repair my 5-year-old outboard that was losing power stalling and having issues restarting. I agreed to pay the inflated $230 diagnosis fee due to his guarantee. Few days later he called me up and said they hooked the computer up to it and there are no codes so there's no issue with the motor. He said the problem was I was using a long shaft 20 inch on a smaller boat that requires a 15 in. He said the motor was sitting too low in the water and at higher speeds the water was pushing against the motor causing it to lose power. I told him that motor has been on the boat for 5 years with no issues so why no. He said I don't know it has an issue now.I asked him what about the sputtering, stalling and hard to restart. He shrugged his shoulders and said I don't know. Obviously refusing his 100% guarantee to be able to fix and properly diagnose it. If you want to throw your money away go see Sergio and his daughter at the front desk who has a major attitude. read more

I recently had them replace the carpet on my bass boat. There were a few things not done well but I wasn't expecting perfection so I wasn't going to give them a review. Now there's enough that I feel I need to say something. First, Ed was very nice and helpful and got it done in the 2 week time frame that he told me. When I paid my bill there was a $50 charge for a new cabinet latch. Apparently they said one of mine was broken and had to be replaced. Then I noticed one of my rod lockers didn't close all the way and they said the hinge was tweaked. Neither of these things were preexisting but it was my word against theirs. When I hitched the boat up to drive away I noticed they never cut the carpet for the 2 pedestal seat holes up front. Ed told me how to do it later. As I've used the boat over the next few weeks I noticed sloppy work putting the cabinet hardware back on. They left off a significant amount of screws on the cabinet lids that hold the carpet to the lid. Many of the screws weren't tight. When I went to lock the cabinets, two latches didn't lock anymore and one wasn't installed correctly so it didn't even latch. Not a place I'll be bringing my boat back to, or would recommend for carpet replacement. Maybe they do better engine maintenance. read more

I have been using the services of Lakeside Marine for years. When the ownership changed I decided to try another shop at someone's recommendation. What a mistake. The other shop had my boat for five months and when I got it back I found nothing but problems. I took it over to Lakeside, they fixed the boat properly and Ed pointed out some things that needed to be replaced and he got everything all wrapped up in two weeks including a lake test which delayed things a bit due to the quarantine requirement at Castaic. I've taken the boat out to Channel Islands twice and haven't had any issues. Everything works as it should and the work was clean and the boat returned as one would expect of a competent and professional shop. I should've saved myself a lot of headaches and just brought the boat to them in the first place, don't make the same mistakes. These guys get it. read more

Mechanics are great, Avoid the daughter who works at the register. She has terrible customer service skills. This is my second bad experience with her. I came for CF numbers for my boat, the prepackaged sets only came in white, red, or blue. I asked if she had black ones. She said yes but they are individual stickers and not sold as a package. I asked if i could see one sticker before she gathered all 16 letters and numbers (me trying to save her time). She "sighed" and said they are the same. I asked again and repeated, can i check the font to make sure. Since the stickers were above the doorway near the register, i just poked my head up and around and noticed instantly they were nothing like the taller, narrower, and slightly slanted ones in the preset packages referenced earlier. Without a word, i walked over to the preset sticker packs, grabbed one and brought it to her rack, and said these arent the same font. I raised the package right up next to her individual black ones, and she said they are the same.. i then with no malice or harsh tone, i giggled and said these are nothing like the black ones in any way shape or form. Thats when she huffed and said "i will find somebody else to help you" and walked away.. when she walked back through i asked her if there was something specific i said for her to be so offended. She said," she didnt like the way i was speaking to her" and brushed me off.. the mechanic then took over and rung up my pre packaged stickers that i didnt even want.. and more so hated to purchase them through this company knowing it only supports a family that clearly has nepotism problems ahead. I will avoid this boat shop in the future until i see a sign that says under new management. read more

Ed the service manager is an honest and humble person. He shares his advice so that you can have different options. He is very knowledgeable and looks to find ways of being affordable. He keeps me posted on items and is efficient. His staff also displays the same personality. Lester has helped me on troubleshooting items over the phone as well as stop what he is doing to assist on a quick pass through. However, Ed and the staff were so professional that others who need boat repairs should consider this location especially if your repair involves an insurance claim. My assignment was to do a boat repair evaluation. I was greeted by Ed. He walked me through all the repairs. He gave detailed description of all parts needing replacement and the reasons for it. The shop, including the bathroom, was as clean as my house. That's very clean, folks. Ed thanked me for handling the evaluation more than once. Was helping a friend get the correct battery for his trolling motor. Sergio installed a 24 volt system( 2 12 volt deep cycle batteries), was on lake and trolling motor quit after only total 2 hrs of use, took boat home and checked batteries found one was a interstate brand marine CRANKING deep cycle battery, went back to Sergio who refused to replace battery with correct battery saying this battery has more power. Talked to employees at Interstate batteries on Railroad ave , Santa Clarita, they said only 2 applications for this battery exist, one is to START a inboard engine and the other is RV related. When I asked him to please replace battery , he asked if I was a customer, I said no, at which point he asked us to leave and bother him anymore as the CRANKING battery is the correct one for a trolling motor, if you want to be SCAMMED,RIPPED OFF, for being a customer. Then this place is for you. also no MASKS worn by anyone working there although you must wear one to enter storefront. read more

Took our boat there for repairs, long story short, got it back with a new problem it didn't have before, took it back and was then told by the owner that they didn't completely open the engine but knew I needed all new pistons, mind you in the previous repair they replaced one piston which I have since learned is a huge no no! Because I then questioned them about doing something that no other shop will do per their own words an entire problem has now begun and now they have my boat and will not put the engine back in it unless I allow them to send it out for the piston replacement or allow them to charge me for labor despite a no labor charge agreement I have in writing with them. No one will reply to my emails and since there have been so many discrepancies with them, I only feel comfortable having documentation of our communications to protect myself. So now, they have my boat and will no longer reply to me per them unless I pick up my boat in pieces which we all know is impossible or allow them to send it to the shop for the expensive repair to fix a problem I believe they caused or allowed them to charge me to put it back together. I have asked multiple times what the charge to put it back together would be and what state the boat is in to see if it's possible for me to pick it up not put together and they don't feel the need to answer these questions so how am I supposed to solve my problem if they won't answer those questions? They are trying to charge me storage for it being there so they won't answer my questions so they can charge me storage! This is the most unprofessional "business" I've ever encountered and I still have no clue how I'm going to get my property back from them! Take my advice and do not take the chance of something going wrong and ending up on this side of the fence with these people! **UPDATE** Funny shortly after posting this they finally replied, however they told me they aren't going to put my engine back in my boat because I "accused them of discrepancies" (which I actually have written proof of) so I'll need a pick up truck and they will set my engine in the back and they are done. As a boat owner I highly recommend this facility/shop for all Boat Owner Repairs. I have had my boat in Gideon's facility two times and both times gideon has performed top notch work. I have had my boat at other shops. Whereas at the other shops all they want to do is guess what the problem is when I explain to them what the issue is. Tired of being jerked around!!! The first time i took my boat to lakeside boat & Marine and explain to Gideon what I hear with the outdrive. Gideon listen to me and called me the following day and explained to me what was wrong and the cost involved. Gideon & Crew at Lakeside Boat & Marine fixed the problem and the boat runs like a champ. Over heating issues other shops tell me what might be the problem again Tired of being jerked around! I've been a loyal customer of Lakeside for more than 10 yrs. unfortunately, the guy that made this place tick, the owner, Gideon Lee, sold the business in the spring of 2016. It hasn't been the same since. I've had 2 annual cycles with them now. They don't pay attention to the details. The quality of work has definitely slipped. Example: they said I needed my carb rebuilt (5L Volvo penta). I approved the work. When I got to the lake, the engine stalled out if running under 1,000 rpm. Couldn't safely navigate at the docks/marinas for a week. How is it possible to release a boat as "ready to go" when it won't run at idle?? I could give more examples, from this yr and last... I plan to evaluate the other shops in the area. Totally bummed. read more

I do most of the maintenance on my boat but I didn't want to spend another summer weekend baking in the bilge, pulling the drive and changing the shift cable. I'm so glad I found Lakeside. They are fast and thorough. Ed called with an estimate made the repairs, did a water test, and the boat was ready the next day. They had discovered that the impeller that I had just installed was a bit burned (my fault) and replaced it for the price of the part only. They tuned the carb and replaced a missing trailer crank handle all free of charge. An honest shop that goes above and beyond is a rare find. read more
