I get more work done at work when I've got the headphones on and listening to this. Even my boss tries yelling over the music "Hey, looking productive today" when I'm trying to drown him out and ignore him by listening to the radio instead. Frisky Radio is an independent online electronic dance music radio station. Its cool techno music (yes, I say techno, I'm European) that doesn't have ads, and upbeat but chill enough to feel energetic and still concentrate on what you're doing. In fact, I'm listening to it now while writing on yelp. That's right. This radio station makes me so productive, I'm done with my work for today and have time to write this review. Maybe I'll even go for a jog. Only thing (hence 4 stars instead of 5): if you're listening to it 24 hrs a day, there are repeats. But event the repeats have a different twist every time. They keep Radio alive in colleges. If you get the chance check them out on the Tune In app. Shout out to the staff as well . It's the only college radio station that is actually run by the…read morestudents of valley college (myself included) They are online and if you're local to the area you can tune in at 95.1 fm. During the fall and spring semesters you can hear students programs that are produced by the students. Some are awesome shows(like mine..hehe) and well others can use a little work, but the thing I love most about this station is that it's raw. You don't hear radio like this anywhere else in the LA area.

On Dec 13th, they had on the air a very good speaker/coach that was going to do group coaching…read moresessions to kick off the new year and provide the listeners a great way to start the year. It would be culminated by an event in Los Angeles that would be an amazing way to help solidify the learned knowledge from the multiple group coaching sessions. Wow! It is now January 16th and nothing. I called about a receipt the next day and the person said that because they were backed up, we'd get an receipt in a week or two as well as details. Again, it's over a month: nothing. Why? Not sure, but I would hope to think it's not a scam. I've listened to KPFK for years and I've never had that impression but this incident makes me wonder. I've asked my bank if I can reverse these charges. So, we'll see. Again, I'm hoping that it's not a scam but as each day passes, I'm wondering... Maybe not enough people participated as to make the speaker/coach's time cost-effective but obviously, we should be notified and made "whole" by an apology, a book, audios or something. I might have even volunteered to donate the money as a gift had anyone made any effort to communicate and apologize. Or maybe, it's another lesson of when it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Tonight we had the fun privilege of participating in a live taping of Go Fact Yourself with standup…read morecomedian Jordan Carlos and actor/comedian Erinn Hayes at the Crawford Family Forum which is now the headquarters of KPCC 89.3, rebranded now as LAist. Parking is small on site so come early if you want to park there. Tickets were $20 for the privilege of choosing your seats first. The forum has a small auditorium with maybe 10 rows of seats so no matter where you are, you'll be able to see the stage well. The evening was full of laughter because not only the guests but the hosts, J.Keith van Straaten and Helen Hong, were all so quick witted and hilarious! It's basically a competition between the two main guests to answer trivia questions in an area of interest, which tonight was market bubbles for Jordan and the movie "Romancing the Stone" (1984) for Erinn. We also had special expert guests to corroborate their respective answers for more complex questions. For the market bubble, we had Anne Goldgar, USC history professor and author of Tulipmania. And for "Romancing the Stone" (RTS), we had via Zoom, the inimitable Kathleen Turner!!! Incredible! She is going to voice the donkey in the upcoming animated film of Animal Farm. It was incredible to hear her talk about her experience on the set of RTS--so poised and seriously funny in her own right! What a thrill! Loved every moment! So glad we attended!

And then there's Terry Gross, Kai Ryssdal, Scott Simon, Francis Lam, Peter Segall, Ira Flatow, Shankar Vedantam...and others throughout the week. Between their shows, announcements for live events would grab my attention, but then I'd forget. Recently, I made it an effort to remind myself. The first event I went to was for Go Fact Yourself with J. Keith van Straaten and Helen Hong and guests Michaela Watkins and Marc Summers. I've heard a few episodes on the weekends before and felt the jokes were hit or miss. However, the live taping turned out engaging and memorable. I used to watch Marc Summers on reruns of What Would You Do? and Double Dare, so seeing him in person got me nostalgic. In my opinion, his comedic timing rivals the best, particularly when Sam Harris appeared and the two recounted their days on Star Search. The second event was for The Memory Palace with Nate DiMeo who recently published his first book. The event acted as both a teaser as well as a live recital of previous episodes. I hadn't heard of his podcast before, but the short stories that were shared, such as one about Mary Pickford's dazzling roles during the age of silent film and another describing Florence Chadwick swimming across the English Channel several times, won me over. Each one of them tickling the brain as much as providing the slightest feeling of wistfulness. On a final note, the parking lot is cramp, so I parked on the street. Looking forward to future events!

Writing articles that characterize innocent victims as guilty suspects. Refusing to print…read morecorrections or retractions for articles that defame upstanding community residents. After multiple email exchanges over their course of 4 years. begging the writer to at least do his due diligence regarding basic facts of the people he incorrectly reports on, continuously refusing to simply add the word "allegedly". Repeated denied offers of viewing official public records for correcting wildly inaccurate stories were denied, that were not even needed because a basic web search and background check would tell the truth, that would include warning the neighborhood about dangerous residents. These resident's names were coincidentally omitted from the article, indicating using shady sources with malicious intent. Lastly, community members commented in support of the article, with no knowledge of the falsified incident, encouraging guilt before innocence. Meanwhile, the comments of corrections were denied as posting, and ignored when submitted through the "report corrections" tab, making every single article reported questionable in nature.

He is one…read moreof the best radio DJ's around, when I hear him on the radio many memories come into my mind, from recording the songs onto that he played on the radio, to driving back to 29 palms marine base on sunday nights as a young Marine, and now (as a 40y/o man) driving back from the river with mi kids listening to those great oldies! Art laboe has been a part of my life just like he has been a part of the Los Angeles culture. I always smiled when he "blows kisses" from "la sad girl to what ever cholo is locked up doing time". I am thankful that my kids enjoy listening to him and all the great music he plays, As I get older I know that he wont be around for much longer and I pray and thank god for Art Laboe!
