Rightly so... the mill is supposedly the "last standing structure" from the movie "Gone With The Wind." The gates opened at 8 AM. Entry was free. By the time we got there, a small group was already taking professional-like photos of their model. The landscaping was nicely manicured. Some of the plants and flowers or trees were labeled with little signs. My girls liked climbing up into the replica "water-powered grist mill." We didn't stay long as dogs were not allowed on the grounds. Our dog stayed in my Jeep while the air-conditioning was on since it was in the upper 80s already. We parked near the Clinton Library and decided to take a stroll, not really sure what to…read moreexpect--but the Clinton Presidential Park Bridge ended up being one of those quiet gems that sneaks up on you. What used to be an old railroad bridge has been given a second life, now standing proudly as a pedestrian walkway stretching over the Arkansas River. As we walked across, the breeze picked up just enough to keep the July heat from being unbearable. The view of the Little Rock skyline on one side and the riverbanks stretching out on the other made it worth the steps. It was calm, wide open, and gave us time to slow down and just enjoy where we were. The kids ran ahead, pretending they were on some kind of adventure, and we just soaked in the peace. It's not flashy or loud, but it has that thoughtful kind of presence--like it knows it's not the main event, but it still wants to make the moment better. If you're visiting the library, make the time to walk it. Bridges don't usually make memories--but this one just might.

Little Rock in brief summary, is an absolutely gorgeous City which will live forever in my heart, both because of the bittersweet distant memories, and some more recent ones with Starlight, and even moreso - the amazing concerts I've had here. My first memories of Little Rock were with the love of my life when we were traveling all over the country, driving through here on a sticky summers' day. The first thing we discovered here was the River Market. We've traversed Arkansas on a number of fateful occasions over the years and each one has left a real impression on me. Almost always in the heat of the summer, except when I did my tour here, in late Autumn. When it is at its most comfortable, really. My most recent experience was bringing Starlight through here in the heat of the summer - and she and son and mochi all enjoyed the Frozen Custard from Shake's, and we had a little look around the downtown. You can see her eating it in the attached pic. My best experience here was for a concert. We absolutely packed the River City Coffee Cafe with over 100 people and it was one of the most memorable concerts I ever had. So LR will always be special to me and it's a truly beautiful place. And no, while I may have Little Rock in my heart, I do not have Little Rocks anywhere on my body, despite what you may have heard from multiple sources.

The…read moreinclusion of the word 'historic' in the museum name suggests that one would find a considerable number of artifacts representing the history of the state. Quite the contrary, what is found almost totally is a group of contemporary art works that have very little to do with the state and its history! Very importantly, the entire upper floor was closed during our visit (and has been closed for several months, according to other reviews). Just a few minutes spent in the display area was quite sufficient! Admittendly, there is an outdoor area with various buildings that can be toured for a fee, but this tour is of limited benefit and not of much interest on a summer afternoon. On a hot summer day, a museum provides respite from the heat and humidity, but there is very little in this museum to keep one's interest for long. Furthermore, the gift shop can be skipped, as it has almost nothing of value. Are there any professionals who work in this museum? It appears not! Is this museum ever evaluated by the leadership?? What a shame!! In reality, the real benefit of this museum is to provide a temperature-controlled place to wait for the free streetcar, which stops right across the street!!

This home is where the nine students were picked up and dropped off each school day, while being transported by U.S. troops during segregation in Little Rock, Arkansas. The bullet holes are visible in the window pane where shots were fired into her home by prejudice people who defied desegregation. I can only imagine the disturbance that Daisy Bates endured. She also experienced an arson attack in her front lawn.

Our dinner was fabulous, and the mansion tour was EPIC! Beautiful gardens, great history, and many little-known fun facts were shared by Governor Beebe himself! The staff is awesome and we experienced welcoming attitudes from everyone we encountered. Great trip and the governor was a gracious host indeed! Arkansans should be proud!

Douglas MacArthur is an interesting historical figure; while the place unsurprisingly paints a favorable picture of him, the museum presents some controversy for the viewer to think about. Much of the other exhibitions were primary source photographs or paintings from the time of various wars. It isn't fancy, but it does allow the viewer to make up his or her own mind, and there's plenty to ponder. Given that the museum is free to enter, I expect that visitorship will only grow as the next door building opens, and I certainly think it's worth a look.

It has artifacts, displays, videos, pictures, and placards detailing Arkansas and some of the state's famous residents' contributions to wars including the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. There is parking right out front of the museum and in the lot that belongs to the neighboring park as well. One of the best parts of the museum, and there are many, is that it is free. The museum has a meeting/conference area on the 2nd floor, where chairs are situated in a square around the room's perimeter. The museum is small but packed. It is also well organized. There are no guides and there was only one guy sitting at the front desk at the entrance and he never left his post. Some of the more notable exhibits in the museum include the General MacArthur exhibit on 2nd floor. General MacArthur was actually born in Little Rock.....who knew? There is also a large exhibit on Asian Americans that fought in WWII, women suffrage posters/cartoons and a Jeep display. If you do visit this Museum, I encourage you to venture outside and take a look a the nearby memorials, markers, and placards. They added to my museum experience. I highly recommend checking this museum out. I really enjoyed my time here and learned a lot. Between the adjoining park, the fine arts, memorials, and other attractions, you can actually make a day of it.
