To make matters worse, the vet complained about my pet directly to me, which I found highly unprofessional and unethical. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this clinic. Side note: I do believe they have a preference for dogs and do not treat cats with the same care. Cat owners, steer clear!!!

21 mar 2020 our 3.5 lb yorkie - Bella - was brought into Animal Medical Center Lubbock TX & seen by…read moreDr. Justin Propp. Her front arms had been buckling & she needed X-rays to further deduce if the cause was physical or neurological after glycoflex [glucosamine] consistently given over 6 months - didn't make a difference. Dr. Justin Propp prescribed Bella gabapentin & advised an MRI as the next step. Luckily, once home w/Bella in NM, we were able to smell that the gabapentin had a sweet grape aroma. While some sweeteners are harmless to humans such as xylitol, it's quite the opposite when it comes to animals. Xylitol is TOXIC to them; likely causing seizures, permanent brain damage & death. W/out knowing if this smell was a harmless sweetener or poison, on 30 Apr 2020 we emailed amcLbkwebsite@gmail.com & directly asked if the gabapentin they gave Bella contained xylitol. On 31 Apr 2020 we received an email response stating, "So I spoke with our Office Manager and he stated that the Gabapentin Oral Suspension does contain Xylitol but at such a low dose that it is not toxic to the patient taking it. We have been using it for a long time with no issues regarding our patients." At the time, I was so consumed with getting Bella into a neurologist during Covid that it didn't even cross my mind to leave a review which could have prevented another fur baby parent from having to deal with this. Bella at the time was 3.5LBS (she's now 4lbs) so ANYTHING toxic would be absolutely more dangerous to a small animal - similar to how birds die from PTFE DUE TO THEIR SIZE. Regardless, gabapentin is a great nerve pain medication, anti anxiety, as well as anti-seizure medication for pets. The danger when adding toxic xylitol is that it affects animals by likely causing seizures. So the worst thing you could do for a pet who is having seizures is to give them gabapentin containing xylitol. Likely to cause more seizures, & if you don't know there's xylitol in it & you increase the dose &/or frequency, the seizures will likely increase in parallel. *Bella wasn't having seizures, but I'm pointing this out in the event that anyone reading this [current or future client] w/a pet having seizures could at least be aware of this life saving detail. So regardless if a pet is 4lbs or 40lbs, gabapentin should NOT be given if it contains xylitol PERIOD. Don't let anyone downplay the danger of xylitol. Like if someone said (after the fact not upfront) "oh it's just a little crack cocaine, not a big deal - we put it in the kid's pb&js all the time w/no issues, you'd probably have them taken to court. It's not that different. There is AMPLE reputable literature educating us on the dangers of xylitol to animals. Granted, this was 3 yrs ago so hopefully this vet doesn't carry toxic medication anymore. Hopefully they aren't giving anything toxic to unknowing pet owners (such as in our case) which essentially is poisoning our own pet without knowing it. My concern & reason for writing this 3 years later is the guilt I already feel hoping this didn't happen to someone else who wasn't as lucky & didn't know to ask if xylitol was in their pet's medication. Or maybe they did ask like we did & they got the same answer, trusted & believed the irresponsible response from doctors & staff here stating a little xylitol isn't a big deal, it's given to their patients all the time. I'm not angry. I'm not reviewing any other part of the service Bella had that day because the x-rays turned out great. This is solely to inform any current or future unsuspecting pet parent about the danger of xylitol & the attitude the Lubbock doctor & staff of mar 2020 had at the time: 1.) having a non pet safe formula 2.) the vet prescribing gabapentin knowing it contained xylitol despite Bella's weight 3.5 lbs & 3.) receptionist & office manager both confirming the xylitol in Bella's gabapentin wasn't a big deal. I thank Jesus daily for Bella who is 12 years young going on 13 come Sept 2023 -- living her best life despite having Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia.

After reading reviews I decided to give them a try and I am so glad I did. They were all so nice from the very first phone call. They treated my pupper with kindness, respect and compassion. The Dr. was so thorough and explained everything. It turned out one of her hips was like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. She was in pain when we went in and during our visit had a clear picture of what to expect in her future. 3 days later she was pretty much back to her old self. They were all so wonderful I decided to bring the other 2 dogs to make sure they were in good shape. Definitely would recommend them. They were so very different from the vets in Indiana. And they're very affordable…read more Understandably they're extremely busy and it takes awhile to get an appointment but it's worth the wait. Everyone there is wonderful and helpful. I haven't had to get our cats spayed or neutered in about 30 years because they're usually already spayed or neutered when we rescue them. This time, we rescued 2 young cats who had never been spayed before so of course we had to get them spayed. Not only because it's annoying when they're in heat, but it's so much better for their health to be spayed. Especially so they don't have ovarian cancer when they're older. It wasn't easy trying to take care of them while they recovered from their surgeries. I mainly kept them both in their pet carriers so that they wouldn't be too active or do anything to reopen their incision until it healed. But we made it. Both girls still love their pet carriers and they both still love us unconditionally and weren't affected negatively after being spayed. Thanks P.E.T.S. Clinic for being available, being affordable and doing a great job with both of our cats. We had an extremely bad experience with a local vet clinic stealing one of our emotional support cats (Live Oak) so we're really struggling with trust when it comes to vet clinics. We still don't have a new vet clinic that we use, but it was such a huge relief that we had such a great experience with y'all and we truly appreciate that!!!

Recently she went from fine to down hill. She stopped eating, she was always wanting to sleep, and she started getting weak. We tried changing food and it worked for a bit but not for more than a week. It was like she enjoyed something new and more enticing but she couldn't really stomach it anymore. It then got to the point where she struggled to breathe. That by far was the worst thing watching her suffer like that. It happened slowly within a few days and I hadn't even noticed at first. But the last night I felt like something was wrong. I figured schedule a vet appointment in the morning and see what's going on but when she woke me up at 3 in the morning scratching at my bed I knew that was her last night. She was having a hard time sleeping that night because the ability to breathe was becoming harder, through the night I sat there and comforted her with every gasp she made and every time she would try to close her eyes to sleep she would panic when she couldn't breathe again. By morning she was exhausted, I held her to stretch her diaphragm as much as I could and it helped. We loved on her and said our goodbyes, got her some last minute McDonald's and whip cream, and headed to the vet. I was devastated when we got there and my sister had to do all the paperwork. They got us back relatively quickly and my poor dog was so tired she didn't even bark at new people like she would usually do. That cemented in my head that this was the right thing to do when I had to euthanize her and it was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. The vet and her assistant were extremely kind and considerate to Alma and I. They didn't rush anything and they made the process as calm as possible given the circumstances. They told me what would happen in advance and even let me hold my baby in my lap while the procedure was taking place so she wouldn't be afraid. I think it was the best possible scenario I could have when it comes to letting my best friend go. So thank you so much, Miss Raschke. And to the young woman that helped you that day. You both helped me that day more than you know and I'm so glad we got put into your care

Another time, my husband accidentally threw away all the vet records. When I requested a replacement, I showed up and the staff wanted to charge me $10 for the records (which were not even complete because they didn't contain old blood tests, luckily I had scans of those on my computer). I ended up getting the records for free, but that was odd. Especially since I was not told of the fee in advance. Also, my dog was gaining weight despite exercise and limited diet. In February I asked ACC about it and they said I was overfeeding him, even though I said I wasn't. I asked for a blood test and they did one, but didn't test for thyroid levels. In June, puppy had a small focal seizure (which I was quick enough to take a video of with my camera). I called and the office staff said it was no big deal, they were too busy to see him for a week, and don't bother to bring him in. But I knew something was wrong. So I called Animal Medical of Wolfforth (they had impressed me when the vet treated my friend's dog for an emergency after hours, a service ACC does not offer). The vet there was out of state for an auction, but the vet techs actually sent her my video, even though I had never brought my dog in before to them. She diagnosed his focal seizure and suggested a thyroid test. Turns out my dog has hypothyroidism. After starting him on pills, he's much better and now has perfect thyroid levels. Puppy lost weight, is more active and happy, and has had no more seizures. I feel like this could have been diagnosed earlier if ACC had listened to me. I feel like the front desk staff and the vets at ACC are nice. They also have some of the best equipment of any vet in Lubbock. But I also decided that they were too busy for me and didn't catch my dog's problems like they should have, which is why I now use Animal Medical of Wolfforth. I'm giving ACC 4 stars because they are still a good choice and convenient for Lubbock people.

However, it was ultimately a Yelp review that led me to FVC. After adopting my dog from a no-kill shelter six months ago, I opted to stay with my mom's local tried and true vet in Denton, Texas. Disenchanted after two godawful experiences there (not anticipating the potentially deleterious effects of taking my fur baby off of a medication for a chronic condition, prescribing the wrong dosage based upon my dog's weight, and charging me extra to correct the medication), I was determined to find "the" vet for us in Lubbock, somewhere near Tech's campus. The vets referred to me by Tech's faculty failed to return my phone calls. Their glossy, professional websites offered me an e-mail address which to contact, but I never heard back. I scoured Yelp in search of "the" vet. It was a review of FVC written three months prior, documenting how one of the practice's vets followed up with a pup's owner following its appointment and ultimately summoned assistance to dig an elder dog's grave following the family's tragic loss. You don't come across such unbridled compassion and selflessness, nevertheless from a paid practitioner. I knew this was the vet. My experience at FVS was phenomenal from start-to-finish. The vet and vet tech genuinely care; they offer dynamic, comprehensive insights and keep the "big picture" in high regards. They thought ahead, and were careful to share the prices for additional tests/medications with me before performing or prescribing them. I have found a lifelong friend in the vet tech, Megan, and a trusted resource in the vet. Even the desk woman put a smile on my face. It was she that phoned me a week later to ask how my fur baby was doing and if I had any follow-up questions. You won't find a vet or clinic like that at FVC anywhere else. They absolutely set the standard.

You see a different vet every visit so no one person takes a long term interest or view to care giving. Several times I was left wondering if the vet who saw my pet wasn't dipping into the medicine cabinet himself because he was so dull and indifferent. When you point critical care issues out to Dr. Stevens, he shrugs it off and acts like you are the problem. I really do not believe Stevens cared about anything other than whether my bill was paid. They misdiagnosed and failed to properly treat the most common eye infection encountered in felines in my cat who will likely suffer with permanent problems due to their lack of attention and incompetence. If you're looking for a veterinarian who cares, I encourage you to keep looking.
