We were actually kicking ourselves that we don't come here more often to enjoy nature, as it really is beautiful in all seasons. There is no shortage of trails, short or long, that wind through the park and dip down into the ravines. This includes stairs and some rockier walk ways that lead out to the lakefront. If you prefer to stay on the flat road, you can enjoy the well-paved paths by foot or by bike. We had our stroller along and were able to push it throughout. You'll pass by a golf course, the fancy Lake Park Bistro restaurant, lawn bowling greens, statues, and even the infamous Milwaukee light house. Looking forward to the summertime in hopes that the weekly concert series returns to this park, in addition to the traveling beer garden. My son should be walking soon enough, so we'll no doubt return to let him run free and get some fresh air, while we enjoy views of the lake!

A great exercise that doesn't feel like one because of the continually changing landscape and beautiful scenery. There's also a paved walkway for those who want a easier route. There is also a skateboarding area, a dog park, picnic tables throughout... everything you need in a park! Oh, and how can I not mention the Biergarten. Great spot with lots of open space. And it's really well maintained. I see volunteers out all the time, painting, picking up things, surveying. Thank you Estabrook!

If you hike along the water, the beach opens up in a few places. It's very secluded! If you take the trails off to the north of the main one, you should stumble upon a bunch of old wooden benches, which are remnants of a long-gone outdoor church. High schoolers frequent this place to, well, do the things that high schoolers do. Don't worry though, they're more scared of you than you are of them. This is a wonderful place to get close to nature. It's generally very quiet. I've seen deer, bats, lots of interesting mushrooms, and many varieties of wildflower. The trail can be overgrown, but it is still quite clear. It's not possible to get lost, as the park is rather small, and all the trails are loops. Just be careful about wandering onto private property. No one seems to care too much, but there are "no trespassing" signs by the fences. If you want better beach, you might have to ignore the warnings, but you didn't hear it from me. Also, be careful along the shore here-- it can be tricky to traverse.

We made our most recent visit during their annual 4th of July festival which is always a great time. They have a whole bunch of local food vendors, a few bars set up around the park, little activities for the kids, plenty of seating, and live music all day. So great! While here our kids of course wanted to make the trek across the park to the playground they saw in the distance. And boy were we so pleasantly surprised at the brand new set up! Previously, it was rickety, wooden and old. Now they're set up has the squishy flooring and all new play-spaces, slides, and swings. To kids, they might not care much either way, but to parents, it's a luxury to have a playground that's update because it means it's safer. In any case, we'll certainly return for this, if not the beautiful beach area too.

The rivertrail is almost always empty, any time of day. Great for dog walking. You'll forget you are in the city.

It's $20/hour, for a maximum of 3 hours, with an extra hour for set up and clean up (30 minutes before and after the rental). In the hall, there are 2 large wooden tables and 4 round tables big enough to sit 8-10 already set up. In the back room, there are plenty of chairs that you will need to set up and put back. There is also another round table in the back, but it's missing legs, and you could try to install the legs on (there are some spare legs back there as well) to use the table. We didn't have enough time or the tools to try, but if you really want 5 tables, you might want to be prepared to get this done in time. There are also 4 folding rectangular tables inside. There are electric outlets that will accommodate slow cookers and such, and a little microwave. But no oven or stove, so all cooking will need to be done ahead of time. The gas fireplace will turn on easily with the touch of a button and bring beautiful atmosphere. All the lights are in the office. Bathroom is well stocked and all the cleaning supplies are in the cleaning closet. We had a lovely gathering and very thankful for the venue. Wish the rental could be for 4 hours rather than 3, but it was still a good amount of time.

During the winter months Cahill Square Park offers free public skating on it's full size hockey rink. This isn't just some unkempt pond, it's a full on Zamboni maintained hockey rink. How it's worked the last few weeks (as you can see in the picture) is they place dividers down the center line and one side is free skate and the other side is pick-up hockey. But they recently added a mini rink right next to the full size one and last week free skate was there and the whole full rink was for pick-up hockey. If you are looking for a place to lace up the skates that doesn't require signing up weeks in advance, Cahill is the place to go. Masks are required for using their facilities, but at an outdoor rink in the winter, why would you not want to wear one anyways? It is only available for open skate a couple hours each day so be sure to check the parks website for times!

This establishment is racist and cultural appropriates. Indigenous people and allies have reached out to them (respectfully) trying to educate them on how what they are doing is wrong but they end up getting blocked. They are trying to profit off Native culture without donating any money toward Natives in their area and without consulting any Native people. They lied to Indigenous people and are letting nom-Native people think it's ok to be racist. This is not the kind of company you want to put your money toward. I think most of the time they're at Whitnall Park, but the weekend we happened to visit, they were near McKinley Marina. We found easy parking in their nearby lot and headed into the line. It was pretty busy! It's $15 per person to ride and it all goes to a great cause - their non-profit. All of the dogs are rescues and so friendly. At home, the dogs are able to run and are never chained up. Here for the event, they were tied up near their traveling bus so everyone could pet them and give them some cuddles and love. They liked that, but I could tell what they really loved was getting out there and running the sleigh. We got there right when they opened at 11:00, but everyone apparently had the same idea. We waited 1.5 hours for our ride. Not a fun wait in the cold, but there are plenty of dogs to cuddle and the ride, albeit short, was so worth it! It was really, really fun. Two people can ride at a time (or maybe three kids). All of the volunteers running the event were so friendly and fun and were happy to impart knowledge or answer any questions. This is a great winter activity to try - kids and adults will love it. Next time, I'd like to try the Whitnall Park location. The volunteers said there is a warming house there where you can get hot chocolate while you wait for your ride!

We were told they were going to do a couple laps of a football field it was one lap maybe 40 yards 20 yards wide....... Anyways, The dogs are beautiful, and The female staff member is very kind. I just feel $15 a person for a very short ride is a little overpriced, but where else are you going to get a dogsled ride in the Milwaukee area can we all say monopoly.

I'm not sure how this happened but MPS/Milwaukee Recreation got some hotshot architectural firm to renovate outdoor facilities one or two at a time and they've been transforming these neighborhood little parks into wonderful places to play. There's a century old little fieldhouse that will be expanded, the playground will be updated, the baseball field will be repurposed into an ethnically more appropriate soccer pitch and they plan a basketball court and a shady area for picnics. The neighborhood got to vote on a few different designs. As it is now, it's an okay playground and a dusty little used baseball sandlot. It is about to become much more.
