Snacks, liquor and old school candy, to say I was impressed is an understatement, I will definitely be stopping in here more often for my quick needs. The other was a young girl with curly blonde hair and glasses. She must be fairly new because I'm not sure that I've seen her there before. The line was long - about 4 customers in front of me and, eventually, another 4 or 5 behind. When it was my turn, I requested a pack of cigarettes. She retrieved and scanned them and then asked for my ID. I was a little surprised but thought it must be a new policy. As I was getting my wallet to show her my ID, she said, "If you don't have it I can't sell them to you, and then called out, NEXT." I showed her my ID and paid for my cigarettes. I had to laugh. I'm 68 years old, so it's not even a close call. I understand that some stores have this policy and it has nothing to do with my apparent age. At one time, this store had a policy of asking for ID from everyone, but they haven't done so in years. As I was leaving, another patron made a comment about the absurdity. The cashier then shouted at me, "Don't come back again without your ID!" ?? The ID she had just look at? I explained that I'm not usually carded there and asked if I was a new policy. I believe she said, "Yes." I was not happy with her rudeness and lack of professionalism. When I asked her name, she rattled off something intelligible and refused to repeat it.

Their location makes them very convenient, it's just too bad their front lot is so tight (you can park on either side or in the back lot.) They have some great pricing on some things (beer, smokes, candy) yet not as great on chips and sodas. They have very good coffee and feature Paul's Donuts and some other good looking snack-food items which, even though I have not tried them, do seem to be popular. Regardless, the main point of a gas station is gas after all, and they are usually the first station in this area to lower the price.

Schnucks has made a lot of changes since the last time I was here. Some good, some not so good. I do love that they have Boars Head meats and a very nice bakery too. The store was laid out much better and very clean. It felt more organized. Everyone I came in contact with was very friendly. One thing I don't like about Schnucks is you have to wait in line to be checked out. Then you are designated a lane to go to. I find that odd. Another thing that really surprised me is they have monitors on their carts. If you leave the store without paying I guess the wheels lock. I guess that's one way to curb shop and runs. Hubby thought it would be dangerous if it screwed up and for some reason thought you hadn't paid when you had. That would be embarrassing. I'm not sure about that, I think I 'll carry my groceries out by hand just in case. lol Has theft become so much of a problem they have to do this? I find that a bit scary and sad. Not to far out of St. Louis you will find this Shell gas station, for the longest time I made a…read morehabit of going across I55 to the truck stop on the other side, a little bit off the exit and although a larger convenience store with more snack and drink options, non of them are dairy, to be specific milk. So I almost went along my usual routine and then for some reason decided to try the Shell instead. Score, not only a decent restroom so I don't have to walk cross legged to the elevator, but they have milk, yay! Sometimes I just want to get home, or in this case my little second home which is light on provisions. I do have coffee beans, however leaving milk there, by the next visit it would be yogurt. After a few hours of driving, the last thing I want to do is go to the grocery store. Why am I making such a big deal about milk, seems places just don't have it. I'd even buy a small single serving just for the next morning's coffee. Perhaps road trips no longer exist, no families with children? What's next, maybe no gas? BTW, super friendly young man as a clerk that evening, big smile and super polite.
