This company is great. The guys who are manning the truck are always courteous and thorough despite the challenges inherent in their job. We have two companies serving our neighborhood and the other one is a big corporate entity (you can guess who I'm referring to). They will often leave garbage strewn around their pick up sites as they fly up and down our street. In contrast, I have seen the Hudgins crew (a local family owned company) chase down items that have gotten away from the truck making sure they are not leaving any detritus behind. Additionally, our two year old grandson is obsessed with "Trash Truck" and we usually have him with us on collection day. The driver and his helpers make a special effort to honk the horn and wave as they stop at our house. Our grandson is thrilled and I really believe the guys enjoy seeing him every Friday. I was a customer for many years and had no issues until end of last yea. I was discarding chalk molds and did not realize they would not be picked up or I would not have put in can on trash day. I never received a call to let me know why they drove past. I called that morning and spoke to office staff several times. The owner spoke so unprofessional and disrespectful to me and made it a point to say he didn't care if he lost my business. He was arrogant and nasty. Again, I had been a customer for at least 9 years, no prior issue. There was no reason to speak that way to anyone. If a paying customer is asking why there was an issue with disposing of something placed in can, provide exceptional customer service and be kind. I quickly cancelled my service due to the owner's unprofessional demeanor. Originally, I had thought of leaving a negative review, but I decided to take the high road and display kindness, something this company does not provide to customers or the publi. Since I cancelled my service last yea, every morning the trash truck honks loudly as they stop in front of my home to pick up neighbors trash. This is intentional and again shows the lack of class this company has. The honking does not bother me, but I do feel bad for neighbor who has babies, most likely sleeping. I should have done a little more research when I first bought my house and I should have read the reviews about this company. Customers complaining about customer service and damage property are more than the ones talking about the actual service. Ok, A Family Owned business where the family members are rude and condescending? : acceptable at some extent. These people don't have the necessary professional training to be running a business. But, when you call to explain why you couldn't pay the bill and they mock you for being poor, that's UNACCEPTABLE. I called this morning to explain the delay of payment and a very rude lady who doesn't even know how to answer the phone, my 5 year old nephew is more educated, said to me and a quote "The bill is only $20 a month, I mean who doesn't have $20" ...The fact that this Lady can say that out loud not only show privilege and tone deaf but it is also ignorant and out of reality, right after a PANDEMIC. But the fact that she didn't even let me talk and explain what was the reason I didn't pat the bill and that it wasn't because I am poor (very grateful for that) but, the reason is because they don't have a recurrent payment feature in their system, I mean who doesn't have a recurrent payment system in 2022 right ? ... and when I mentioned that, what if an actual poor person was calling? ... you don't wanna tell a person who is poor that it's impossible to not have $20 in their packets. Please someone inform this Lady that poor people are not extinct, they are actually multiplying in America. The only thing that made sense about this phone call is that the subject of the call was trash. With that said: any recommendation about Trash Pick up in Donelson/Hermitage area ? recycling included. Hudgins has picked up our trash/recycling for 25 years, and we have been SO pleased with this company. The employees are always very kind and helpful and even cheerful at 7:15 am!! There have been a couple of times, over the 25 years, when I didn't get the can out in time. I called and the woman on the line found the truck still in my vicinity and it came back to my house! Bless them!! Another time, I called and they couldn't come back that day, but they could come a few days later. in my mind, this is above and beyond and such grest customer service. DO NOT HIRE!!! I'll tell you what the owner told me in his own words "Hire another F-ing Company!" you should also take his advice. After a year as a loyal customer to this trash service we are forced to move on. Hudgins decided to pick our can up without warning nor a letter telling us what is happening. Our service was scheduled to end on 09/30 and that was the date our bill was due. They took our can on 09/11 weeks before anything was due. When I called them they demanded I pay them 120 dollars right then to get the can back. Of course we tried to get them to honor the original agreement the owner met me with hostility and aggression. I refused to pay the bill before it was due and told them when they would get their payment. I was then cussed out by the owner demanding "Pay your f-ing bill now!". Do not waste your time with people who will squeeze money from you. They are not the only trash service around so don't waste your time. read more

I've use Hudgins for 19 years and I've NEVER not ONE time had any issue with them...my trash is picked up...flyer of holiday pick ups change dates are left on my can. I've had an unusual amount of stuff when I'm cleaning out the garage, house etc. and they've ALWAYS picked up everything. There are a lot of us on my street that use them. My regular drivers are great. However, in December they had a substitute driver, and I ended up with damage to my yard from the truck driving over my grass. This isn't the first time. I emailed Hudgins, complete with photos of the damage. Never heard back. That's really poor. read more

I think Hudgins provides a good service for a fair price but my WORD the back office and customer service staff are simply awful: rude, incompetent, inconsistent and often give bad information. Our invoices are late or non-existent, and they are unhelpful on the phone. The only reason I gave 3 stars instead of 2 is due to the quality of the actual trash pick up. read more

If you live outside the Metro city limits and have to pay for trash pick up you need this one. I just found out it is a local, family owned place since the 60s. Beyond that here is my short story about why I love my trash company. We had BMI at our old place and they wanted one can, 18 inches from the curb, completly closed. If you messed up on this procedure they would NOT pick up and they were EXPENSIVE. So when we bought our house there was a PDQ can out front next to a big pile of junk that the former owner had left. So I called them and the dispatcher said that they would be happy to pick up the junk left behind. The next day the men came, looked in the can (which was empty) and walked away. I ran out and told them to take the junk and they said no, it wasn't in a can. So I told them the dispatcher said they would and they said she was wrong. I then told them to take their can away I would NEVER use a company like that. So then we found Hudgins who is a lot cheaper, nicer and I have found if you clean junk out of your garage, they take it away!! If you put out an extra can, they take the trash out of it! We also have Hudgin's recycling service which is twice a month for cans, paper and plastic. Love it for only $8 extra (every 3 months). They are fabulous!! read more

Don't understand why everyone pays Waste Management twice as much. This company has it together. One bill every quarter, $16/mo. They've picked up more than just our little green container several times, as we've just moved in, and have had a lot of trash, boxes, etc. to get rid of. I have used Hudgins for over 10 years without incident. The individuals who pick up the trash are always helpful, friendly and go above and beyond when I need extra help. They have come into my garage and remove items too large for me to bring to the curb. I read the reviews related to not knowing holiday pick-up dates...I feel they do a decent job keeping customers informed. We have used Hudgins since 2007! The guys are THE BEST. The very few times we have forgotten the cans, they even grabbed them from the driveway. =) Little did they know, it was during my husbands worst chemo days that we had forgotten the cans. I gave them one star only because I had to. I live in a residential neighborhood where our city contracts these guys. The man who comes to my home leaves trash all over the driveway, flies in and out of our drive, and even left a huge scratch on our vehicle. The owner is less than helpful. He is rude and disrespectful. He couldn't even be bothered to come out here and look at the damage. He instead sent the same guy back out here who OF COURSE says he didn't do it. So as a business service, this company is fine. They were consistent, reasonably priced, etc. However, I had an issue that I needed addressed, and when I called I received the worst customer service I've ever received from a small business. Instead of really listening to my problem, I was argued with by not only the receptionist but also what I assume to be the owner. I was spoken over, snapped out, and my concern was addressed with defensiveness and responded to rudely. In fact their response was when I complained was, "It's just trash." I've used Hudgin's for about 3 years and was moderately happy until these last several months. Their recycling service has always been a joke compared to other places I've lived. Now, it's even worse. They only pick up ONCE a month and don't accept most recyclable materials. They have now failed to pick up my recycling THREE times (2 of them because of a single Kroger bag that was accidentally put in the bin...). That means 3 entire months where Hudgin's failed to provide a service I paid for. I have emailed with them several times about this and they were less than helpful. I hate to leave a negative review for a family business that I wanted to support, but their service has been pathetic. read more

The trash pick-up service was OK - until I experienced two missed pick-ups. I sent an email via Hudgins' website each time and never received a response either time. The first time, I let it go. The second time, I called the office and spoke to a man who identified himself as Darrell Hudgins (the owner of the company). I found his demeanor to be rude and condescending as he interrupted almost every sentence I tried to speak. He also stated that if I had really sent emails, they would have been answered which is basically calling me a liar. Then he told me that I shouldn't have used email at all - that I should have just called the office to being with. I can't imagine any business in today's world stating that email communication wasn't as efficient (or more so) than phone communication. This man was so ridiculously rude over what should have been an apology for the missed service and an easy fix, that I finally told him to cancel my service. I also asked for a refund of the unused portion of the "pay-in-advance" service. When I didn't receive the refund, I complained to the BBB and Hudgins Disposal's response stated that they issued a refund and that I had cashed the check. That is a complete lie - I never received or cashed any check from this pathetic company that would rather lie about a $15 refund instead of doing the right thing. read more

I don't often leave negative reviews and unfortunately this is my 2nd review because this company has removed my review from google rev. As I said before, I called and complained about the sanitation workers were leaving trash in front of my house every time they pick up. I asked more than once for them to please address this issue or I would be forced to find another company. The service rep and...... manager seem not to care. The service rep was rude loud and abrupt when asked to have this problem addressed.So, I found another company. It's far less expensive than the competitors in the area ($16 per month, billed every 3 months) and they provide consistent, quality service. We moved into our home this summer and had quite a bit more than what would fit in one can the first month or so as we were unpacking, and they picked up everything, including boxes! read more

Rude employees. They leave a mess every time they pick up. They Aren't consistent with what they pick up. If they don't like what you leave out (bagged for pick up) they leave the bags out in the middle of your drive. When you call to complain they are condescending and elitist. Some disposal companies won't take anything big or a lot of extra bags, but Hudgins has taken everything that I've ever put out for them. They've never left a mess like some other companies have done. A Hudgins garbage truck struck my vehicle while legally parked on the curb. The driver and owner both refused to admit it, even though the police report stated the obvious. My insurance company contacted Mr. Hudgins to discuss this accident and he refused to cooperate or provide any information. If you want a company that will participate in hit-and-run accidents, then flat out deny it, I'd say go with shady Hudgins. I will be switching company's. read more

These guys have a B+ with the BBB. That's a pretty low score for what should be a straightforward business. What do you really want from a disposal service? The guys on the truck are nice, courteous, and do a fine job; this is true of most santation employees working for all companies. As a family business that has been around for over sixty years though, you would think the management/ownership could do a better job. Basically, if there is weather or a holiday your pickup might be cancelled with no notice or clear policy about how these things are scheduled. Recyling is even worse. When I last called about this I was told, "You could have checked the website" and "I can't imagine who would have told you our schedule that way.... (The schedule I had been following successfully - except holidays and weather events, of course, which remain as random cancellations without rescheduling)." What happened to "The customer is always right"? It seems that the longevity of this business has bred some entitlement, taking their customers for granted. Business owners tend to love to preach "free market is a better way" (especially in these types of services which are often public); in this case I agree and am glad I can take my business elsewhere. read more
