Nice station with a lovely coffee house inside. Plenty of places to wait. Short term and longterm parking available. Close to Warren Street, so you could probably walk to where you're going if you don't have a ton of luggage. read more

I was visiting my family in Hudson Valley and wanna go to the Woodbury outlet mall. I found out the Amtrak from the Hudson Station to the Croton Station is the best way to go. The train station is convenient located and next to couple local attractions including Art Omi outdoor sculpture park. The train station was cute & small with only one platform, so it was hard get lost. The train to the Niagara Fall came 5 minutes before this train to the Croton station. Just need to watch out, so you didn't end up at the wrong destination. Lol. The side that was close to the train station was the street view and the other side was the beautiful river view. It's very green outside and kinda relaxing view the whole way. I purchased the regular coach train ticket which was $31 for one way. Business class is $20 more and all sold out. I would suggest the cafe cart especially if you were eating. I saw two cable/plugs on each side of the table. Six big tables with extra wide seats, and the only other passengers were the train captain. Overall it's a pretty relaxing way of traveling. I will suggest taking a train over driving in a heartbeat. read more

What is going on? Commuted for 17 years between DC and NY for work (twice a week) and now commute between NY and Hudson. Suddenly, I am being told some rules say you can't sit in the cafe car. For YEARS and YEARS. I would sit in the cafe car...every once in a while, the cafe would close down, but It didn't mean I had to leave the cafe car. I would sit and work...it was usually full of happy people sharing beers and talking. Now, it is EMPTY except for the Amtrak workers. It's closed all the time, and no one is allowed to be in while it's closed. WHY? Today, I was told it was closed when I joined Yonkers. When it opened up a few stops later, I went up and saw three conductors hogging 3 of the six tables. I sat down at an empty one. They said I had to buy something to sit in the cafe car. I spent 6 dollars on a tiny bag of popcorn and a soda. I put it on a cafe table and collected my bag from the seat where I'd left it in another car. I brought it into the cafe car and was told I was not allowed to bring BAGS or COMPUTERS into the car. Whaat? They said the car was for people who were eating and nothing else. There is NOT ONE OTHER person in the car besides these spread-out conductors. They look at anyone entering the car like someone encroaching upon their domain. No one would have been disturbed by my quietly eating popcorn with my computer. I'm sure all the other potential cafe car users had been chased out, just like me. And that was the point. Has there been a policy change? To what end? I returned my overpriced food and returned to my seat, but the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, like so much of Amtrak's filthy bathrooms, hit-or-miss staff, outdated web technology etc. If this is truly a rule, it's a dumb rule. If it's just a random enforcement by the train staff, it's the opposite of customer service and another black eye for Amtrak. Every year, the tickets get higher, and the experience gets worse. read more

Amtrak is not exactly my favorite form of transportation. The ticket prices are usually exorbitant, the service is often delayed, and the conductors never even take my requests for a foot massage seriously. The Hudson Amtrak Station is a credit to the empire though. It is clean and pleasant, with high ceilings and no stench of urine to speak of. But more importantly, the people that run this place are SO. Freaking. Nice. At most stations, I would count myself lucky to even get my questions answered. Here, the ticket agent knows everything you want to know, and he's so friendly that the cab drivers come inside just to chat with him about neighborhood news between trains. This must be why people love small towns. It's certainly not for the WalMart. read more

It was 94 degrees outside last week, I paid $78 for a ticket on Amtrak to take me from Hudson to NYC. I got on the train and there was hardly any AC...it was so low and it was so steamy hot I thought I was being roasted, next to me was a mother with two little children ages 4 and 6 and the whole trip to nyc they complained to their mother that they were hot, AMTRAK needs to get it together this is unacceptable for a 2 hour trip! read more

This is not a review about Amtrak, just about this station. I found it clean, well kept and bright. I felt very safe coming into Hudson, where we rolled in, picked up our rental car, and were on our way to a weekend of being in the great outdoors. Wish it had Wifi, though, considering the ticket prices. read more

I've never had a bad experience with Amtrak, and especially not at the Hudson station. It's a nice, small station, I've always had good service here, and the trains have never been late. It's definitely pricier than MetroNorth, but the trains are also comfier and nicer and more direct. read more

Ever needed to catch an Amtrak train, this might not be the place to use if you like to converse with a station-master at the station. When I went in there at about 9:30 about 2 weeks ago, I was astounded at just how many employees there were standing behind the desk during open hours. The only person that was standing behind a desk was the one employee that opened the "snack bar". (They do have a QuickTrak kiosk check-in machine from which to buy your ticket, but sometimes face-to-face contact is what you need in a station.) And then, to cripple that, the fact that to get to both lines you must cross on official roadway-railroad line cement areas to get to oncoming trains(up to the other day, I've seen railroad stations that have their own separate platform that's unconnected to the rails, but apparently this isn't true to this Amtrak station too), this seems deadly. I had to physically check the Amtrak site just to find what trains were upcoming. It ended up being a thud as no trains were expected to be in the area when I was nearby. I knew I was just there to watch trains run past and not to actually go on one, but that experience was such a thud it wasn't funny and I think I'll think twice the next time I'm in the area. read more

Someone in my family inevitably ends up on the train every week, and the guy that announces the trains (whose name escapes me now, but he and my mom and stepdad are buddies) is really cool. The first time I came up here after we officially moved to Kinderhook, he helped my parents play a huge prank on me when I got off the train. How awesome is that!? read more

"They really ought to open a bar here." That's what I tell myself every time I'm waiting for the train to arrive from NYC. The Hudson Amtrak station just has that kind of familiar, convivial feel to it -- probably because you tend to bump into the same people waiting for the same train week after week. I guess that's true of any commuter rail station, but because this is a weekend destination, it's maybe a little more festive here. Hang out, eavesdrop on the local gossip, and meet some nice folks from the city and the valley -- chances are Amtrak is running at least 15 minutes late, so you might as well enjoy the wait. read more
