We were curious to see what was being offered locally and at what prices, before we booked a full-fledged trip to India. The service at the Punjab Cloth House wasn't always great. It can get busy and no one really follows the rules of first come, first serve, so whoever gets to the staff first has free dibs. That already gets under my skin. Then, I notice that while the selection of fabric is pretty vast, the selection of suits that they offer is a bit limited, especially when you look at the price tags. The suits they do have are beautiful, but ridiculously priced, and although they do sell just the material for you to go out and have your suit made, that always ends up costing a lot as well. So what ended up happening you ask? We booked the flight to India and came back with 4 suitcases FULL of suits and wedding swag. Had we been forced to shop solely at the Punjab Cloth House, the selection wouldn't have been half as impressive, and we probably would have only been able to fill one suitcase for the same prices.

But recently I walked by and saw a really nice party dress...perfect for the holiday season. I was in a rush though so I noted the dress and came back about a week later on a weekend. The dress was no longer on display but I found it easily enough on the rack. They had a few sizes left and thankfully one that looked like it would fit. No sooner did I have the dress in hand, did a sales woman offer to start a fitting room for me. A little pushy but after that she didn't bother me so I can't complain. I quickly glanced around the store. There was a lot going on and most of the styles I saw weren't my thing. I think they cater to a slightly older crowd (late 40's/50's +) (they did have a cruise wear section). They also have stuff that I'd consider to be a little more whimsical/unique in design which isn't my personal preference but I could picture some women I know who would love the clothes there. The dress fit perfectly (yay for in-change-room mirrors) and I made the purchase...at just a little over $100 it was a good deal on a party dress in my opinion. I'd recommend shopping at this store on the weekends as it always looks a bit busy during weekdays. Also, during the week they have live mannequins stationed at the door. They creep me out a little bit but others may not mind :)

Today (very upset) because the lights were on, 2 ladies working in the store and the doors were locked. I knocked and the moment the saw me, they went to the back room. I was trying to make an exchange which will now become a return and I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN.

A pair of shoes and two dresses for less than $30. Woo hoo! As a woman who loves shoes, I was pretty excited to see them arranged before my eyes just as I walked in the door. The store layout is good and there's a lot of room for browsing. The change rooms are small and there are few. The one I was in had a full length mirror that was placed a bit too low. I didn't need to see my face, but what if I was really tall or trying on hats or scarves? There was only one hook and the limited floor space is where I had to put everything else. This took a little bit of fun out of trying on clothes. FYI, they no longer supply plastic bags, but you can purchase a recyclable bag if you don't have your own.

They offered to buy only two items for $10 total, like $5 each. I couldn't believe it! The clotting were nice (new tops, dress pants, jeans jacket etc) plus sandals. But they didn't like anything. The explanation was that "the clotting style was kind old and it won't sell fast enough", something like that. I was very disappointed, because it was waste of money for me (I took Uber to go there). I will never go back.

If I had to guess, the target market is cruise or Vegas bound 60+. But since nobody adheres to style rules anymore, that doesn't mean it's not worth a look. I bought a blingy wristlet for carrying my phone and a fab rhinestone belt. Staff was friendly and tried to be helpful. Some of the price points seemed high for the polyester stuff or some of the graphic oversized t's. They are really on the ball there regarding latest trends and had some amazing looking things of good quality. The Fall line up is in but they are still clearing out summer stuff like crazy so you know where to come for bargains! The store was not too busy mid-day and the staff were very friendly and of course greet you when you come in. Trying on clothes was a breeze too. I would have stayed in a lot longer had I not had an appointment this afternoon but I did manage to buy 1 top. Wore it for just a few hours and got 4 compliments on it! Shall return! The change room stalls don't have a full size mirror in them however they have a mirror so you can only see your face. The employees were nice but I stood around waiting for a change room for more than ten minutes, I ended up having to go to the till and ask to use the change room (there was no one checking out at the till, the employee was just standing there.) 5 stars for cheap clothes 1 star for an unhygienic disgusting store.

This did happen recently - about a month ago, so well before Christmas and generally I am a very pleasant person to deal with, that is unless you release the beast. I call in, "Hello, I am looking for NHL Slapshot, do you have any in stock?" Lady Asshole: "hold on" I am waiting about 5 minutes. "what did you want again?" Me: "I was inquiring about the NHL Slapshot game?" Lady Asshole: "hold on" again waiting 5 minutes...I get transferred to Customer service, then they ask what I was holding for, I say electronics. I get transferred back Lady Asshole: "electronics, how can I help you?" Me: "give me a manager" Lady Asshole: "What is the problem" Me: "I asked you if you had a game, you put me on hold for 10 minutes and you didn't even check then I got transferred. I don't have time for this, now please, with sugar on top, can I speak with your manager?" Lady Asshole: CLICK So, in my typical fashion, I head over there because a.)I needed to return a present that my little guy had 2 of and, b.) I wasn't letting Lady Asshole get away with hanging up on me. I go in hoping to get NHL Slapshot and hoping to speak to Lady Asshole, after all, it was the first day of its release and it was barely noon so figured some would be in right? Not so much. I ask a young kid, obviously new, about this game and he didn't know what I was talking about and tells me that he will ask the lady at the electronics check-out - LADY ASSHOLE- we are now face to face. I say "Good morning, I spoke with you earlier and you were supposed to check on NHL Slapshot for me but you hung up for some reason or other". Her response was, you are going to love this, " I transferred you, you might have been accidentally disconnected." Me: "Really? Accidentally disconnected? Did you by chance look into that NHL game for me?" Lady Asshole: "Actually we just sold the last one about 5 minutes ago" I can't make this stuff up. Me: "so if you did look into having this game, say, when I called a half hour ago and you put it on hold for me, I would be purchasing it instead of having this conversation with you?" Lady Asshole: "We were very busy this morning" I am looking around and the store is virtually empty... Me: "when will you be getting more in?" Lady Asshole: "I don't know, you would have to check with customer service and they would give you a rain-check and it will probably not be in before Christmas." Me: "I would like to speak with someone who can make an executive decision, could you contact a manager? I will be waiting at customer service." I leave and wait another several minutes for a manager. Manager finally arrives, I tell her the story, basically she is flustered and didn't want to deal with me and said that she will give me a rain check for the game and sent me away...barely apologized and said that shouldn't have happened blah blah blah. I was steaming mad and basically told her that it is unfortunate that they will no longer be getting my business, or my family's business anymore and we all have small children and babies and in fact, I was intending on making a big corporate purchase but that won't be happening either. Told her to keep her rain check for someone who will actually come back to this store. I ended up going to Cross Iron Mills and found it immediately and there were actually functioning human beings working there who were knowledgeable about the store and its contents, imagine that!
