We stayed at Hudspeth House May 4-7, and absolutely loved it. We had originally booked the Bluebonnet Room, but as it was a very quiet week, we got upgraded to the O'Keefe Room which was wonderful. The house is beautiful, the rooms were very clean, and the porch is just lovely with lots of seating. I loved the towels (nice and fluffy), the bed was really comfortable, and the home cooked breakfast was amazing. This is not a buffet of pre-cooked items - there is a menu posted on a blackboard, and you can choose from various egg dishes, french toast, etc., including a yogurt parfait with granola they make themselves (which was wonderful). And the coffee is awesome! The location is also great, it is an easy walk (about a quarter mile) to the center of town. The O'Keefe room specifically: large room, king size bed, a ceiling fan (which I loved having), a little table and two comfortable chairs, which was nice for relaxing, and a *huge* bathroom. There are a few things to note (for which I would probably take off half a star if yelp allowed that). - The wifi is pretty slow at times. We didn't have any trouble streaming video, but on and off as we were using our tablets for other things, we would run into issues. - The water pressure is terrible in the shower. That might just be because the house is so old, but it seems like there must be something they can do to increase the pressure at least a little. - The tv's are too small. I get most people probably don't go there to watch TV, but after a long day hiking in the canyon we needed to relax. Our room probably had the biggest TV of all (which isn't saying much) - I looked into the other rooms and they were about the size of a computer monitor. But, those were minor inconveniences, compared to staying in a wonderful, clean house with the perfect location. If and when we get back to Canyon, we would definitely stay there again. read more

This is amazingly Bed & Breakfast in Canyon TX. Bernadette was an amazing host and cooked amazing breakfast. There were multiple options to choose from for breakfast and the smell of bacon radiating through the house was a great way to wake up. Bernadette's green chili quiche was top notch. My brief interactions with the hosts were good, but there were some things lacking about this place that I couldn't excuse. It was so hot in the main corridors of the house all night, even in the break room, where I needed to use the internet because I couldn't get any consistent Wi-Fi or television signal in my room. The air conditioner in the room was also very necessary, as heat started rapidly filling the place without it, even very late at night. However, I couldn't sleep with the air conditioner blasting right next to the bed, and I found the mattress left something to be desired. Also, I didn't have the same experience Zachary did, as my room was not as advertised. I solely chose the Blue Bonnet room to be able to use the writer's desk that's currently seen in the photos on their website, but when I arrived at the house, it was gone, and had been replaced by a low wicker table and chair that's not suitable for any kind of office work, and there was no other desk available. I understand things break and sometimes need to be replaced, but this kind of information should be updated on their website or communicated to a guest ahead of time so they know about what kind of experience they'll be getting. I was dealing with unexpected variables on the road and it helps to know about the kind of experience I'll be paying for -- it's just the decent thing to do. With all of the issues I experienced at this place, it wasn't worth the $146 I ultimately paid. I am glad people have seemed to have a good experience at this place, but I feel like a little more could be done to ensure this place is meeting the needs of travelers on a regular basis. Again, I understand life isn't perfect and messier than reservation expectations would allow, but a decent internet connection and television signal shouldn't be too much to ask for in 2024. read more

The food is amazing. The coffee is amazing. I didn't stay here cause I live in canyon but it's a very cute quaint place for a really good breakfast or lunch. The prices are fair and they are very accommodating. For example, the food is made fresh every day and if you request nut free pesto she will make some specially for you. Perfect. Jill and her husband are excellent hosts and the house is perfect. Clean, comfortable and welcoming. The location is great if you are doing local activities and want an alternative to the usual. We stayed for a visit to see the musical Texas! at Palo Duro State Park. Cannot speak to breakfast as we got back late and decided the comfy bed was what we wanted more than breakfast. We did grab a copy if their cookbook on the way out and reading it we might should have come down to breakfast. We can do that next time, yes, there will be a next time! The room was perfect, we slept like babies on the comfy queen bed. The house is just beautiful and tastefully decorated. read more

Nice B&B in Canyon and cheaper than the big box hotels down the street. The location is great being just a couple short blocks from the town square and good restaurants. The hosts are wonderful and welcoming. The historic house is nicely furnished and everything seems spic and span clean. Being a solo traveler I chose the Lighthouse room (on the 3rd floor); it was perfectly sized for me and the bed was very comfy. Although the hotel is along a main road my room was perfectly quiet at night. My only wish would be for a shower (the upstairs room options come with a claw foot tub, so a bath is the only option). Check-in is between 4-6 pm and there was iced tea and cookies offered upon my arrival. Breakfast in the morning included coffee, orange juice, a yogurt parfait, sausage links and delicious house-made banana pancakes. read more

We stayed at the Hudspeth House while visiting Palo Duro Canyon. This was probably the best bed and breakfast I have ever stayed at and would highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Canyon. Hosts: Jill and Van are very friendly and make you feel welcome and at home from the moment you get there. Breakfast: There is a home cooked breakfast each morning. It begins with Van saying grace and is followed by yogurt with granola and the breakfast entree. During our stay we had french toast, biscuits, eggs- all very delicious. I do wish the breakfasts could include more fruits and veggies to make them a bit healthier, as I am not a huge fan of eating only flour and sugar for breakfast. Either way, the breakfast is still pretty delicious. By the end of our stay Van even remembered the type of tea I would drink each morning and brought it out for me during breakfast- a really nice touch indicating that they do care about and pay attention to their guests. Afternoon: Between 4-6PM cookies and tea are served. The cookies are homemade and absolutely delicious. I'm not sure what kind of tea they were serving, but it was pretty delicious also. Home: The home is beautiful and tastefully decorated. Outside there are rocking chairs and a swing- perfect for sitting out in the evening. There is also a book shelf full of books, games, and puzzles. The history behind the home is quite interesting. Room: The room we stayed in was all the way upstairs and had a claw foot tub. Really nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The floors are a little creaky, but that just seems to add more character to the home. Free wifi in the rooms. Location: Only about 15 minutes down the street from Palo Duro Canyon. The Canyon park entrance is located on the same street as the Hudspeth House. I do wish there was a Hudspeth House at all my travel destinations. I would love to stay there again. read more

My mother has a tiny, dusty summer cabin near Canyon, Texas where the whole family gets together during the summer. I spent every summer in this cabin as a child and it holds a very special spot in my heart. Unfortunately, my husband does not harbor such near and dear feelings for the family summer home. This year I decided to spare my patient, sweet husband the pain of being crammed into this little shack with his in-laws and booked a room at the Hudspeth House B&B. Just so you understand, I was taking quite a risk - my mother was not exactly ecstatic that we were staying away from the rest of the family (a guilt trip bonanza occurred). And, my husband made a sour face when I said Bed and Breakfast - we have had some bad experiences in the past. I was feeling the pressure. Needless to say, it was all worth it. The Hudspeth House surpassed my expectations. Our flight was late but the owners, Jill and Van, politely made accommodations in their schedule to greet us and show us around. The abundance of southern hospitality was apparent and a welcome change after our miserable day dealing with the airlines. The house was beautiful and spotless. The décor was charming without being tacky or over the top. A big southern-style front porch, complete with rocking chairs was a definite plus - a great place to relax at the end of the day and chat with other guests. Our room held the same feel - clean, neat, and just the right amount of decoration. There were plenty of clean towels and pillows. We had cable TV and wireless internet. The icing on the cake was a claw-foot tub in the giant bathroom. I even had a little dressing table to do my makeup. Every morning at 8:30am there was a full breakfast. This was not a skimpy pile of bagels or scones - one morning we had orange french toast, the next morning we had a breakfast casserole. Every breakfast included yogurt, granola, bacon, coffee, and fresh juices. We chatted with our fellow guests at breakfast - a nice way to start your day. I can't say enough good things about our stay at the Hudspeth House. Maybe I have lived in the city for too long, but the southern hospitality and customer service I felt was long overdue. If you are cruising across the country via I-40 (Route 66) and want to stay in a cute little town and have a lovely experience, check this place out. read more

Great place to stay. We were in the O'Keefe room. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Good hot water. Utilities all good. Good air conditioner. Fridge and water cooler in room at end of hall. Very nicely decorated to match history of the house. Friendly owners. Good food. Nice front porch with rockers and a porch swing. Very pleasant for morning coffee. We loved it. This is a warm and comfortable historical home to stay in while visiting in the canyon. Jill greeted us smiling and so friendly, showed us around the house, offered drinks and fresh cookies. She filled us in on some of the local restaurants, places to visit such as the Panhandle Historical Museum that we might have missed. Later in our stay, Van had a fabulous drive suggestion that turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The house is nicely decorated and our bedroom-so comfortable and pleasant. The room we enjoyed our stay in was the O'Keeffe. It's beautiful, charming, has a claw footed tub, and yet has high speed internet and a flat screen tv. The wonderful breakfast each morning was served at an elegantly set table and multi courses. We enjoyed coffee in the living area beforehand with other guests. In addition, coffee was ready early to enjoy an hour before breakfast was served. The location is great. We were minutes from Palo Duro Canyon, able to walk to two restaurants, Mexican and Thai spots that were both good. This is definitely the place to stay when visiting in the canyon. read more
