The Iowa DNR has caused/allowed Blue Lake to drop 8' - leaving it impossible to boat in the lake. And they spent YEARS literally neglecting this park. They just don't care - and it shows. What once was a beautiful and heavily used park has become a ghost town - and for good reason. Years ago it was a really nice park. Now it's not - and this is completely on the Iowa DNR.

Told me to leave and I had decided to leave before she came at me screaming and told me to leave. I said i already was happily. That seemed to enrage her even more. She said good luck finding somewhere to sleep tonight. Apparently, this woman thinks the re is nowhere else to camp?? Bottom line...she wants to fight and argue and then kick you out and call the sheriff!!!! It was bizarrely funny. I spoke to the nice deputy and told him how she behaved and then screaming and cursing at me. It was the most bizarre encounter I have ever had.

Anita is a super cute small town packed with charm and this state park is the perfect place to rest and relax and stretch your legs. They have nice basic facilities and a little free library you can peruse. It is a wonderful park and well kept. It's become one of my favorite places in Iowa to visit and my fondness grows each time.

It was pretty basic: a lake, playground, basketball court, beach, and docks. Each spot has a fire ring with a cooking grate and picnic table. Every few spots is a water pump. They have several bath houses around the grounds. It was a pretty quiet time, no one was rowdy or too loud, most people kept to themselves. The campground offers wood and fun events like movies each Saturday. Great hosts, easy to find and book!
