Sites do not have water or sewer but he park does have a dump as you leave that you can use at no cost. There are spigots around that have potable water to fill your tank if needed. Also has camper spaces. It doesn't get the traffic like big camp grounds in my experience so it's more peaceful and costs significantly less- only $8 for primitive camping ($5 more for vehicle permit if you don't have state park pass). When I was there in May I had the whole camp ground to myself save one other camper on the edge of the park. Camping is self-sign up with slips around park. Has fire pits and wonderful lake with tons of birds and avian wildlife to see and listen too. Hundreds of baby geese. Good fishing and local Dons Bar is the only food stop in Memphis so don't be afraid go on in and try a cheeseburger or fish- the bartenders super friendly-Also get fire wood there too. It isn't a far drive from Omaha- 35minutes if there's no road construction and is better than most campsites in platte or Mahoney. Take a trip there it's worth it!

You can look at the…read morepictures but they either make a place look nicer than it is or understate the beauty of the location. This park went beyond my expectations. Okay, I admit I thought Iowa was one big corn field. Well in a sense it is but there are many rolling hills with green tree belts in between. The park is located around a beautiful little lake that offers camping, fishing, swimming and boating opportunity. Certain sections offered multiple lake view sites, some were reservable to sites. We were lucky and reserved a view of the lake and no camper on other side. The park seemed well maintained, beautiful old grove trees through out. Like some County and State parks they offered power but no sewer or water. Some sites had water close enough to refill we did not. So we had to be careful with our usage and showered at the one facility. This will be my only complaint, the women's shower was dirty and needed a good cleaning. They had a water refill stations and dump station as well as outhouses. The one close us was clean. I took my mountain bike out on the trail that runs around part of the lake over dams, bridges over marshy areas, thick forest and beaches. It wasn't actually a single track trail mostly on grass that is kept mowed down wide as golf cart width. It was rated intermediate not because it was technical, I believe it was because it had some steep hills that had me breathing hard. I would highly recommend this gem of a park while traveling through or if you want a nice camping weekend in Iowa.

A large portion of the 1,000-acre park has been left in its natural state and is abundant in wildflowers and plants. There's a 136 acre lake. Beavers, turkeys, ducks and white-tailed deer are often spotted at the park. Native American tribes once camped and lived in the area, based on artifacts found when the lake was built. It's a great place to see fall colors. In the summer time, you can swim in the lake by the beach. When I was there it was sunny but too cold for water activities, although my dog would have loved it. Dogs, of course, must be leashed. When I was there, the concessions were closed but the website says they sell bait, rent kayaks, and have a restaurant. I was there for leaf peeping but noticed they also have fishing. There are six docks. Bookguy would enjoy trying to catch bluegill, sunfish, catfish or possibly even walleye, all of which are stocked there. If you get tired of the campsite, you can head over to take a look at the giant coffee pot and cup in Stanton. These are the town water towers and are painted to reflect the town's Swedish heritage. Stanton is also the hometown of Virginia Christine, also known as Mrs. Olsen of Folger's Coffee fame. I guess the coffee pot is an homage to her. I suspect Viking Lake gets busy and crowded in the summer, but it was perfectly peaceful for me and my fur babies.
