I've always been in good health and never found a reason to go, but thanks to Covered California, I finally got myself some health insurance that I'm sure could come in handy one day. It took me a long time on the phone with Anthem Blue Shield trying to find a decent gynecologist through my Bronze 60 PPO plan (--whatever the heck that means). I yelped the few that were covered in my area and I felt bleak: their reviews were truly abysmal. Finally I read Dr. Klikoff's yelp reviews and I felt excited--It is so important to me to have someone with a stellar reputation of kindness to entrust with something so intimate as my gynocological wellbeing. When I called to schedule, the receptionist said the Doctor was not taking new clients, but I could see a Midwife. Knowing nothing about Midwives, I was really very disappointed, fearing that I wouldn't receive very knowledgable or qualified care. I figured, shoot--if I don't see a doctor but every 5 or more years, when I do--I want the person I see to know if there's anything I should be concerned about. The receptionist reassured me that--if the midwife were to see something of concern--they would get me in to see Dr Kickoff directly, which was a relief to me. Most importantly and presumably due to mistreatment of my body as a child, I also am very nervous and uncomfortable with these type of exams. I guess because of this, these types of doctors visits have always been not only embarrassing, but both physically painful and emotional for me as well. I had wished for so long that a practitioner would just allow the time to let my body relax into the exam. That takes a quality of patience I had come to assume I would never experience. But to the contrary, here is what I received from Journey Talkovic at Dr. Klikoff's office: --Unsurpassed Patience: completely allowing my body to dictate the pace --Genuine Warmth --Vast Knowledge --Unexpected Empathy --Kind (--and of course appropriate) Humor --Truly helpful suggestions of services to help me overcome stored pain --Clear step-by-step explanation of what she planned to do before she did it --Total Respect --Incredible Gentleness I am so grateful that my partner accompanied me as well: she educates female adults with developmental disabilities in women's reproductive health and their right to request the care they need from gynecologists; she was so impressed with Journey Talkovic--her patience, knowledge and kindness--that she now hopes to send all of her students to Journey for their gynecological needs! Wow Journey Talkovic--Thank you so, so much! I never knew I could hope to receive such high-quality care as you provided. On my first visit she came in, never introduced herself to my husband or acknowledged him. I was 13 weeks and some change, she berated me about gaining 5 lbs since my pregnancy. Told me word for word "you should only gain 15-20 pounds during your entire pregnancy, and you already utilized 5". Seriously? That is not the recommendation of total weight gain and either way, 5 lbs is pretty standard in the first trimester with increased blood volume and amniotic fluid. She spent 15 minutes lecturing me on food yet never once asked me what my diet consisted of. She told me if I wanted a sweet treat I can walk to the ice cream store and get a child sized scoop like she does. lol, I don't even eat ice cream. She told me I was a high risk pregnancy because I'm at risk of gestational diabetes yet she never looked at my blood work which shows my A1C at 4.8. She just assumed because I'm already overweight that my blood sugar must be out of hand. She told me she was going to induce me at week 38, no ands if's or butts. Mind you, I'm 13 weeks pregnant when she tells me this. She said it's because my half-blood sister had toxemia in 1/3 pregnancies. She spent another 15 minutes hounding me about nicotine. I quit vaping when I found out I was pregnant before 4 weeks! I've been using nicotine gum to wean off under the direction of another OB specialist. Alexandra Klikoff told me I should get on the nicotine patch (against every medical recommendation out there as nicotine patches offer much higher levels of nicotine continuously). I told her this and then she asked me "Well how much nicotine is in the gum?" I told her 4 mg, and she said "Oh the patches are much higher". Maybe get educated about the topic before giving dangerous advice. She made me feel like a crack head because of the nicotine gum and told me I'm the reason my baby is going to come out premature and be in the NICU. To end the visit she wouldn't let me touch the print out of the ultrasound, citing them as carcinogenic. The worst part was she was berating me during my ultrasound about my weight. This lady is a looney tune. Avoid her at all costs.

It turns out it was not so routine and thank God she was my Doc... she came in even when not on call to help solve emergency bleeding. In the end she went way beyond the call of duty to care for me! Others might have just let the on call handle things. In the end it was several trips to the ER because my body had issues... each time she was a trouper and stayed positive searching for the solution! I'm 34 and I wanted to put trying on hold for a year to get out of debt and get our finances in order. I wanted to get some further testing done to make sure I had the time to do that. I wanted someone with the knowledge and experience the primary care doctors couldn't help me with and I didn't want to go to a traditional fertility place because I didn't want to feel forced into IVF/ viewed as a dollar. I live nearly an hour away and made the drive to Dr. Dana a couple of months ago. I cannot say enough good things about her and all the staff. Most doctors make me feel difficult or too much. I have ADHD to top it off so having a conversation with me is hard already because I'm all over the place. Dr. Dana is the warmest, kindest professional I've ever seen. She was positive, empathetic, took the time to listen to me and really explain things in a way I understood. They worked with me and let me do an ultrasound that same visit so it would be less time missed from work and she's very flexible meeting with me virtually in between. I had so many answers from that first visit. She uncovered items other doctors had missed from my blood work. She ran labs that should have been ran before. She made many suggestions that I said no to, and she was so kind about that and didn't try to push me. I eventually listened and she ordered my husbands sperm analysis as well as I've since done an HSG to make sure my tubes are open. I didn't get the peace of mind I wanted, turns out I don't have time to wait and we have some severe male factor to work with, but I wouldn't have wanted to find this information from anyone else. She's also treating my thyroid with medication and gave supplement suggestions based on my labs. My journey to parenthood is not looking like I thought it would but I'm so thankful to be working with her and her staff during this. I just had to share in case anyone else is on the fence about where to go. I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you for making me feel like a person and not a number. If it wasn't for the decision to go to Nurture, I pry would have missed out on my ability to be a biological mom which I'm hopeful will be soon.

When I went into labor, and arrived at the hospital, I was nine centimeters dilated and Dr. Ladwig was still able to make it to my delivery (I was only in the hospital for an hour before my baby boy was born) even though she wasn't the doctor on call. Her presence during my delivery made it so much smoother as she was very calm but stern enough to help encourage me through the process. Would totally recommend her as an OB. How about if she finds a mass which you cannot even feel yourself, schedules you for a round of tests the lab says are inappropriate at this point, and all tests turn out negative, no mass revealed,(phew!) but then she says you need to be checked in 3 months in case that "mass" grows? When you mention that there was nothing there, she suggests you should see a specialist/surgeon. (Honest, this happened to me.) Or if you mention a tendency to be "a little manic" in the evening hours, she hops up and begins to suggest psychiatrists in the area and testing for bi-polar disorder. I don't know at this point if she has signed an agreement among the PAMF community to order as many tests as possible, or if she is just over-eager for a juicy diagnosis, but I have lost all faith in her as my physician. I've been jerked around enough, thank you. She's perfect for anyone out there with hypochondria.

She takes the time to listen, care, educate, assure and offers choices wherever they are possible. She is very down to earth, supportive and funny. I told her about the negative reviews of the office staff and she said that it was a very unfortunate outcome of the change to Dignity Health. I had a perfectly fine experience with them in scheduling and day of interactions. (Oops-5 years later I see this never got posted so posting it now!)

I highly recommend her! Shout out to Dr.Z who knows me well and recommended the right Dr. for me. Dr. Salvay was my request (he's retired) . Dr. Jackson was the perfect alternate. I am beyond happy with her and her team for the help and care provided with a solid attention to my care, concerns and all the other stuff. You are in good hands with Dr. Jackson My 2 pennies :)
