Do not schedule an appointment with Dr. Sarah Flores here! I usually love Sutter maternity, but this experience was terrible. I was 14 minutes late to my appointment due to an accident on Highway 1 and she refused to take me... I asked if there are anyone else that could possibly take me; that it was an appointment that should take less than 10 minutes and they said no.. I have waited several times for my appointment, but the one time I am a little late. This doctor rejected me... This has never happened before so I feel bad giving it a one star, but I am floored because I was in traffic for almost 2 hours and they couldn't make this one exception... Im not sure why this place has bad customers services my wife comes in with an appointment and we still have to wait 30 to 45 minutes and today we showed up 15 minutes late due to an accident on the road and they could not see my wife dont think this is right for them to cancel our appointment but they can make us wait for 45minutez when we should up on time. read more

I had to have a minor surgical procedure and I feel like I couldn't ask for a better hospital experience. It was my first time having surgery and I was hella scared. All the staff, starting with the security guard at entry, and ending with the recovery room nurses, was so warm and caring. They had that great Santa Cruz energy, very down to earth, I felt like I was with true healers. Dr. Mooney has such an outstanding bedside manner, so kind and connective. She really built rapport with me during the two office visits I had before the surgery which allowed me to feel like I was in good hands while enduring a challenging life circumstance. Even my husband, who is very picky about service, was super impressed by this operation. One of the staff told me "you're in the Ritz Carlton of hospitals" and that's truly how it felt! read more

I had my labor & delivery here in Dec 2022 and had a wonderful experience. Soo much better than dominican hospital for childbirth!! All of the nurses were so kind and caring! The rooms are great and the food/room service is awesome! My room was clean and organized when I arrived. And after I gave birth to my son the room was cleaned again and the linens replaced. Labor and delivery is tuff but doing it here made the whole process a lot easier. Big thank you to all the nurses that helped me; Kelli, Vanessa, Adele, Nicole & Kayla are are amazing! read more

Everyone is great. Minus Jessica the nurse. She is one of the rudest unpleasant person to be around. Terrible bedside manner. She has no business being in this field. Not only is she not knowledgable she makes it her mission to make your experience of child birth miserable. I was passing out and something wasn't right during my labor. My mother and husband kept telling her. She minimize their feelings and said it was just "labor." Obgyn later came in and realized I had an infection and preeclampsia. Later Jessica was second guessing my symptoms. She is one of the most miserable and unpleasant person I have ever met and her behavior is over looked because she is "going through something." I had an amazing birth several years ago at this hospital. The nurses were absolutely fabulous. The pediatrician - totally different story. She bullied us into getting unnecessary "routine" treatments for our newborn - vit K shot, HepB shot, antibiotic ointment etc. We already had a pediatrician for our baby (this is our second child) and we had discussed at length with him issues like vaccination and had a plan in place. We had brought our oral Vit K that our pediatrician supplied to us. The Sutter pediatrician wouldn't let off. She intimidated us, bullied us by spouting *verifiably wrong information* (as in many pubmed papers saying the exact opposite of this lady), and then would refuse to discharge us even though she couldn't find a reason to put down. She even said so herself - I don't want to discharge you but I don't have a reason why. Then she finally discharged the baby on the condition that our pediatrician sees her within 24 hours (on a Sunday!!!). Somehow we were able to get past this big-ego low-skilled pediatrician - a frantic call to our pediatrician and he decided to see us on a Sunday. The Sutter pediatrician was quite young - hopefully she's wiser now. She was the epitome of a drug-pushing pharma-bully. Ironically, she scolded me for using baby wipes - they're toxic she said :). In the same breath that she was pushing shots with a black box warning!!! Many years later I received a collection call for a bill for this same pediatrician that the hospital NEVER sent to my insurance. Sutter eventually wrote off the balance. Years later I get a collection call AGAIN. This happened repeatedly over the course of 6 years. I had my insurance involved, and they thankfully took over dealing with Sutter over this charge and sorted it out so I didn't have to pay. The billing department is clearly incompetent. I found it ironic that we had to go through this billing fun ride for "services" that were unwanted, unnecessary, and absolutely against what our very experienced pediatrician had delineated for our child. Our pediatrician did so based on a review of our family history, genetic makeup of the parents, and years of treating the entire family (including adults) for everything a primary care can do. Yet, this pompous girl decided in 10min of reviewing a healthy child (and no family history taken) that she needed things done to her at the tune of $500+ for her *professional* opinion. Sutter has a reputation to be a place where parents who adopt a holistic life are respected and supported. The nurses completely live up to that reputation. Pediatricians like this lady are giving the hospital a bad name. read more

My review is for the recovery/aftercare facilities. Rooms are solo and very large. My room came with comfortable chairs and a pullout sofa for visitors, as well as a nice balcony. Lots of light but with shutters to darken. Solo bathroom. Probably due to my surgery, I wasn't restricted per menu selections. Food choices and taste were really good. read more

I have nothing but positive things to say about Sutter. My relative recently went here for cancer surgery and treatment and thus far she is doing really well. While we were waiting in the lounge area the security guard handed us a Christmas treat and talked with us for a bit. Nurses came regularly and updated us on my relative's status as well as the doctor when he got a chance. Their outpatient home care also was super patient and awesome. HUGE THANK YOU!! read more

Excellent care. The problem is the constant badgering to get the Hep B vaccine. Since Hepatitis B is contracted from dirty needles and unprotected sex there is very little chance any newborn will contract it. So there is no medical reason for it at this age. My daughter declined over and over but they finally caught her as they were going through the process of checking out of the hospital and distractedly said okay to one of the many questions and instructions flying around at that time. Just respect parents' decision to hold off on an unnecessary vaccination for a newborn. read more

I recently had surgery at SMSC with Dr. Beingesser, Dr. Schepps and Dr. Desai. I feel that my surgeons and anesthesiologist were all first class!! Everyone who cared for me from start to finish were absolutely the BEST! All the nurses and technicians who cared for me were nothing short of spectacular! I do not care where you live....if you are pregnant...and you want an amazing birth experience.... GO TO SUTTER MATERNITY! Seriously....I could sit here and write out my whole birth story....but that might be a bit strange...if you have specific questions...I am open to answering them via messages but here are some of the reasons I think it is worth it to drive to Sutter (which I did....I live in San Jose) 1: Staff is amazing. I was treated like a rock star the whole time. 2: Facility is beautiful. Labor tub rocked! Could not do water birth (which was fine) but being able to labor in the tub was amazing! 3: Policies....not many hospitals have great policies...but wow...everything they have in place, all that they believe in makes their care well above any other place. I switched to Sutter at 28 weeks into my pregnancy due to issues I was having with OBs near my home in San Jose and I am beyond thankful that I did. Please...if you have any questions about birthing there....the staff or my own experience in details... do not hesitate to message me! I am more than willing to share more! read more

The absolute worst. These people make me never want to have a baby again. My childs birth was a nightmare and the entire time I was there things only got worse. Oh if you have depression, anxiety, or anything other mental health problem DO NOT GO HERE! If they smell anything that is slightly wrong they will hold it against you instead of trying to help they will make it worse! If I had the means to I would sue this hospital for how traumatizing my child's birth was I would. Since I have had my child I now go to therapy weekly and have numerous disscusions with my therapist about my child's birth. But it's up to you. My mid wife was literally the only person who I was comfortable with and there was one nurse who tried but still didn't quite get it. Either way I will never recommend Sutter! read more

THE BEST anywhere! Many of my friends have given birth all over the bay area. I like to go visit them in the hospital, to check out their rooms (oh, and see their new babies... lol). Each time I see another facility- I am reminded how lucky I was to give birth at Sutter...twice now. Even though I live in San Jose, I would drive over the hill for all my appointments, just to make sure I had a better chance of getting in to one of the TEN beds reserved for giving birth. It is like being in a resort hotel. You do not even see any hospital equipment, as it is cleverly hidden behind nice cabinets until it is time to deliver. 24 hour room service. For you and your partner/spouse. Refreshments in the lobby for your guests. Champagne dinner after the delivery to celebrate your new baby. (Whenever you are ready and feeling up for it). Gorgeous rooms with balconies, dark "wood"floors, lovely views, hot tubs, and inventive interior design. Staff was AMAZING. With my first child, I had a nurse by my side for 24 hours, literally. One nurse spent the night by my bedside (Due to some complications, but where else can you say you get your own private nurse?) I had two babies here (I am done breeding now). It was SO worth all those trips over the hill. No better place out there.... if you like to be pampered. read more

It is true that the nurses are wonderful, that they stay with you as long as it takes, comforting and encouraging the way they should, cheerful and sympathetic. The nurse at Sutter is THE ONE that ends up helping you give birth (next to your husband), since doctors and midwives tend to be "busy elsewhere" a lot...she becomes very important in your life, and you remember her forever. It is true the place is pretty and nice, and that it feels like a hotel; I, for instance, would have wanted to spend 10 days there, instead of the 2 nights they allow for non-complicated births... When the time came, I did not want to go home, it felt cozy in my room with my baby and the nurses; help whenever I needed... All of what the raves say is true, and I will expand on the birth itself: it is better and unlike any I've seen on TV (seen lots of "baby stories" on cable) in that you are given your child to hold against your skin for a long time before anyone makes their move to grab him. The moments you hold your newborn against your skin, tired and protective, with no need to let go, is worth all my gratitude... read more

There is a lot to like about this place. They're "family-centered", meaning friends and family can visit pretty much any time they'd/we'd like, and the family gets to stay all together in the same private (and spacious!) room, from labor and delivery and on to recovery. They also are heavy advocates of breast-feeding and, big bonus, they take little or no kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies pushing baby formulas (they are a not-for-profit facility). A few of their rooms have jacuzzi tubs (I was fortunate enough to get one), but if you don't get one, you can still use the "public" one. Giving birth here was like being a VIP, staying in a 5-star resort hotel. The nurses were so amazing and the chef downstairs whipped up gourmet meals daily. While I was in labor, nurses came in to help "coach" and offer support. Once the baby was out, they immediately placed him on my chest and didn't take him from me until it was time to weigh him -- I loved being able to immediately bond with my baby. After our baby was born, we were served a special Celebration dinner, complete with champagne (though we chose Martinelli's instead)! I feel so fortunate to have been able to give birth in such a phenomenal facility with such an amazing and supportive staff. read more

Best birthing experience ever! This facility is beautiful and feels like a hotel not a hospital. The rooms are amazing with jacuzzi tubs and balconies. And your whole birthing process is done in the same room. They change the room from delivery to recovery so well. The staff is what really made my experience so amazing. They were so attentive my entire labor. My nurse Kim coached me thru my entire delivery and I could not have done it with out her. All the other nurses were also great, they were so good with my baby and always there when I needed them. They even went above and beyond to try to make a placenta tree for me. Overall I could not have asked for a better place to have my baby. I drove over the hill for every appointment just so I could get in and would do it again for my next baby. If you are looking for a more humanized birthing experience with great staff this is the place. read more

Sutter Maternity was so great for the delivery of our daughter. The process which we had planned for got turned upside down due to a unforeseen breech presentation. The Doctors and nurses took it in stride and helped us work through the changed plans. The nurses though are the real heroes at Sutter. They are super helpful and kind, my wife and I were so grateful we chose that hospital to deliver in. It made all the difference. The rooms are warm and welcoming, it feels like home. The guest bed/couch could have been a bit more comfortable but certainly not the worst I have slept on and it worked for a very tired Daddy. As a really nice flourish they bring you a truly delicious celebration dinner on your last night, ours was fantastic complete with Champagne! great place and makes for wonderful memories of our Daughters birth! Thanks Sutter Maternity! Side note - the Lactation Specialists are amazing, my Wife has been raving about how awesome and supportive they have been. If you are planning to deliver at Sutter be sure to meet with them for some initial help at nursing, you won't be sorry about that decision! read more

This review is for the surgery center only (1st floor) for my outpatient surgery this week. The hospital called me a few days before to give me OR prep instructions and to remind me of arrival time, etc. On the surgery day, the check-in process was simple, and the nurses were wonderful! Beautiful lobby, super clean restrooms, easy parking, superb surgical team, and fabulous anesthesiologist (see my reviews for Dr. Imahara, Dr. Gurney, and Dr.Chin). I loved the pictures of the Caribbean over my bed, and in the changing room! Reminded me that as soon as this is over, I need to get away! LOL!! Every single nurse did a fantastic job keeping me comfortable before and after the surgery, checking on me, talking with my husband, etc. Thank you Deborah for being so so sweet to me before surgery, the super warm bed you made for me (inflatable air blanket), and the best IV insertion ever! I hardly felt it! I don't remember much about the OR (hello happy drugs!!) other than it seemed huge, the scrub tec waved to me, and the lights looked like something from a spaceship...whoohoooo!! The only thing that was not good was the noise level in the pre-op and recovery areas. It was a zoo! When I was in recovery, they kept encouraging me to relax and even sleep but it was was so loud and my curtain was wide open with beds and people flying by constantly that all I wanted to do was go home. I was too out of it to ask them to shut the curtains at least. A nurse called me from Sutter (Irene?) the day after my surgery to check on me, too. She just made sure that I was following my recovery instructions and answered any questions. Very cool! I highly recommend this center and if I ever need surgery again, I want to go here. I have gone here a couple times to the Orthopedic center and let me say, they are amazing. I have had Hip and Knee injuries from various different sports and the staff here has always been very helpful. Dr. Christopherson has been helpful throughout my journey. He has always told me the truth and advised to not have surgery when it could have been a possibility. They have all the diagnostic tools right there and ready to go so once you have an appointment you will be able to receive all the care you need right at the facility. Make sure too book way in advanced. They are usually 6 weeks out in booking. read more

The medical staff here is top notch! We were here for 4 days for a procedure. The nurses were polite and kind to my honey. They didn't question me when it was obvious I was staying overnight with him as well. In fact, they said. Let me call room service to make up your bed. One night even, I was woken up around 4am. My son was born at Sutter last June and the experience was great. He was born through a surrogate and the nurses and staff were fantastic. One of the nurses there has been a surrogate twice so they all knew exactly how to treat the three of us. The lactation nurses also were fantastic. They helped me w/ inducing lactation and w/ learning to nurse my son. This was the fourth pregnancy for our surrogate. Her three children were born at home with a midwife. Sutter is definitely the next best thing - it never felt like a hospital, with the privacy and comfort of being at home. The billing department, however, has been a huge headache. They have messed up ever single step of the way. Eight months and many phone calls later and I'm STILL not a guarantor for our surrogate's billing. I would have given Sutter 10 stars if it weren't for their billing department. read more
