The brewery was founded in 1856. In 2016, a 3,276-metre long (2 mi) beer pipeline was completed which delivered beer from its bottling plant to the brewery. The restaurant is big but quite crowded. We seated ourselves and my bf enjoyed some of their beers.

Know or exceptional Belgian beer. This historic brewery had indoor tables & tables in the courtyard. Cold refreshing drafts were perfect. Coming inside the brewery, I felt like we were stepping back in history looking at the walls of bottles, the old bottling machine, and the vets of beer.

An easy walk from the city center. They're located in a square, so the entrance is easy to miss. It's like a small hallway. The tour is to the right, and the beers are to the left. I did not do the brewery tour. I just wanted to try their draft beers. Each glass is no more than about 4 euros. The courtyard looks busy/full, but the staff is attentive. If you go inside, they serve food. There's a lot of tables. Restroom is also available. Nice to spend an hour or so while in Brugge.

Will start by saying just visit the place if you are beer lover. Their unfiltered version of beer is so tasty and would recommend their beer tour for everyone where we get to chose either one or three beers and their beer history is worth listening to where in at the same time we will support them to keep this place in the heart of this beautiful town.Everything about the brewery is awesome including the tour of the brewery, their history and of course their beer.Tour offers an amazing rooftop view of the city which was incredible and can buy the beers at the store as well. all in all an awesome experience to anyone whether you are a beer lover or not. Go for it.

    Both really good!

We were mainly here to try their craft beers and did not do the brewery tour. Oldest brewery within the premise of the city with production onsite since the 1850s. We went on a canal boat tour before heading here where we got to see the other side of the stunning brick building which has been well cared for. I am a beginner beer drinker and loved both the Bruges Zot and the Hendrik. We wanted to get some finger food to go with our beer but their kitchen doesn't open until 6pm which was disappointing. Plenty of seating indoors where you get to enjoy canal views and a great way to spend an hour in Brugge.

Review for the brewery tour- Enjoyable brewery tour (despite the thoughtless folks who brought a toddler to this). The tour is not toddler appropriate and wish they would have enforced this. 1. There are quite steep stairs that little ones will have trouble with. 2. The tour guide doesn't have a mic, so it was hard to hear over the wheels on the bus go round & round (although the kid gets points for adorableness) or crying. That aside, the tour guide was informative, cracked several jokes and it was nicely set up inside with several rooms showing the brewing process while giving a historical context. Awesome view at the top too! Recommend the brewery tour (toddler- less)

Cute brewery, was recommended by our B&B as a place that we should try to get to and it was definitely a really fun experience. The location is convenient- can walk from the city center. We got to learn a lot about their local beer. Ample seating space. Right by the water- nice to get a window seat for good people watching. It is bright, the price is good and a great place for beer fans. Lots of great variety! I vote for the blonde.

Very convenient location. Close to the buses / Taxi drop off area. Good beers, fresh and tasty! You can also get a ticket for the beer factory and roof exits have to view of the whole city! This is one of the most famous beer restaurant in the area if you like beer and want to try the Belgium's beers!

    Lots of tasty beer available

Wifey, doggy and I really enjoyed the beer garden in front of the restaurant. It was a Saturday, nice sunny day so it was very busy. We quickly found a table for 2 ... when they are this busy you will need to walk up to outside bar for beers or wave madly when you see one of the few waiters they have outside. For beer we enjoyed the blond - a nice 6% abv lighter beer with just a hint of fruit flavor aftertaste. Perfect for a warm day!! They have higher ABV in the bottle which many others were enjoying as well. Food - we had cheese and bread which was tasty and went well with the blond. The best part of lunch was their Flemish beef stew which was made in their darkbeer sauce. It was so tasty, tender beef, rich gravy like sauce - I highly recommend this!! This is an easy 5 star based on the inviting courtyard, tasty Belgian style beer and the amazing lunch. It can get busy so just have a little patience with the wait staff.

Big, bright, open brewpub layout. Lots of seating space and tables so finding a spot even on a Friday/Saturday night was not an issue. The beer highlights here are the Trippel and the Quadrupel. At 9% and 11%, they pack a punch! So be careful because the beer is super tasty and goes down smooth. I did the brewery tour, which is 12 euros and includes a blanche beer at the taproom after the 45 minute tour is over. The highlight of the tour is going on the roof of the brewery - the view you get of the whole city of Bruges is exceptional from that vantage point. It was an overall good experience and I would recommend.

Booked a tour for our day trip to Bruges. While the tour was ok (I've been on better brewery visits and our guide was ehh) it was so worth the visit to the rooftop for amazing views of Bruges! And the beer at the end was of course nice. It was nice being in a place with such a long history in Bruges. It's definitely a must visit, I just wish our tour guide was a little more energetic! The views from rooftop were some of the best pics we took in our entire trip! I recommend scheduling the tour around sunset. Amazing pics!

Star breakdown -- Beer: 2 Tour: 3 Sitting area: 4.5 Rooftop views: 5! Overall: 3ish I somehow scored a ticket to the last tour of the day. It's a known fact that the roof view here is a better deal than the bell tower because you get beer here too. It's also a cool old brewery. Founded 1856. The tour itself was rather typical. What are the ingredients in beer, you ask? Gosh I don't know. What is this mash tun thing? Okay I'm done. A pour of their blonde comes with the tour. Despite the size of the group, bartenders were on it and quickly provided the pours. I'm glad it wasn't their quad. I recognized the name right away when I stepped into the brewery -- it's one of my lowest-rated drain pours on Untappd. Yikes. So basically, go for the view. Perhaps you'll like their beer more than I do, too!

Our second stop in Bruges! First stop, of course, was picking up chocolate. This was a really cute brewery with outdoor seating. We didn't have time to do the brewery, but we sat in the courtyard and enjoyed their beer. They didnt have a lot of options on tap. I had the Brugse Zot, a blond ale. I really enjoyed it! They also serve hot chocolate if you're a non-beer drinker. There is also a restaurant if you're hungry.

OK not so much the chanting part but I think you get the picture I was seeing in my head. What a shock when we finally arrived (after about an hour drive from Brugge) and found a sleek, angular and thoroughly modern taproom and restaurant! Well for sure the ages old Abbey is around somewhere? Nope. Though we couldn't get a tour we saw many photos all showing very modern and classy facilities, including their worship spaces. Mind blown, but in amazing way. These Monks have totally embraced the modern times and they've produced a really nice facility with some wonderful grounds as well. What about the beer? , Yes, yes we weren't on an architecture tour we were here for the beer. And boy it sure didn't disappoint. There's a reason the Westvleteren XII was rated the best beer in the world a few years back and luckily we got to taste through the line-up the 12, the 8 and the Blonde! It should be mentioned that the food was quite good as well and despite the continuous stream of people strolling in to deplete the days supply of available "to go" six packs it was quite a pleasant and relaxing experience. (TIP: if you want take some home with you you better get there when they open and buy your six packs first thing. DO NOT wait until after you eat to buy the beer, I saw the days allotted pallet get cleared out in the time it took us to eat lunch:-) As I sit here months removed from my visit, staring at the last bottle of Westvleteren Blond that I schlepped through Europe and finally got home, I think that I've got to get back to Belgium and Westvletren and I envy any and all of you who are on your way there :-)

An absolute dream come true…read more I still can't believe they didn't shut the door in our faces on arrival. There we were, six young-ish dudes -- looking very, very thirsty -- checking in for two nights, one of them a humble bachelor celebrating his final days of freedom. They asked what our plans were for our stay. They laughed. They knew. They welcomed it. We conquered. To say this place is perfect would be an understatement. It is better than perfect. Everything you've heard is true: -- Three fridges stocked with every type of St. Bernardus beer in existence (cash donations accepted). -- Large, comfortable rooms named after the various beers, some with air conditioning (although mine, the Pater 6, did not have A/C) all nicely decorated with beer art and warm colors. -- A lounge with antique furniture and games, a chess board, books about beer. -- Breakfast with cooked-to-order eggs, and three different types of cheese made specifically for the brewery. -- Grab a bike and take the short but beautiful ride into the charming town of Watou. All for the truly incredible value of 110 Euros/night for a double room, 95 if you're traveling solo. -- Did you wake up with a headache after emptying the fridges of their contents last night? No worries, Jackie knows, and she has aspirin waiting for you with the instructions to take it with the last beer you drank the previous night. Don't forget to have a poke around downstairs (haha) and scope some of the St. Bernardus memorabilia from the days when they brewed Westvelteren 12 on behalf of the St. Sixtus Trappist Abbey. The old clay mugs are spectacular, as are the 3-liter commemorative Tour de France glasses. Everything about this place is beyond exceptional. Everything. I can't wait to go back.

One of the most underrated breweries of all time…read more De Dolle Brouwers are as craft as craft beer can get. The head brewer and one of the masterminds behind the creation of De Dolle, Kris Herteleer, pretty much built the brewery from the ground up with his bare hands and I mean that strictly in the semi-literal sense. Coming from a former medical background, Kris is the quintessentially modern rendition of the renaissance man: he's the head of a cycling club, an artist who designed all the artwork that goes with De Dolle, the mechanic that keeps all the brewing equipment in line at De Dolle, and of course the genius behind De Dolle's unique and one of a kind Belgian Strong Dark and Pale Ales. The brewery itself is built around the Oerbierman, the mysterious yellow blob-ish like character that appears as the mascot/logo for De Dolle's signature beer. Think of the brewery grounds as the breeding and feeding grounds of Oerbierman -- a magical Belgian creature that feeds on the excitement and harmony created by all visiting these hallowed grounds and spouts out yummy beers in return. Abstract imagery aside, the brewery does kind of look like one big awesome theme park (in the likeness of Duvel-Moortgaat's proposed Chouffe Land) and any experience here will likely be a magical storied one. Kris and his better half Els are usually entertaining guests from both near and far on Saturdays and Sundays when the brewery is open to the public, and they sure do know how to make someone feel right at home as you immediately feel like family the moment Els hands over that crisp cool pour of Arabier straight from the hallowed taps. Dammit, I have to stop getting carried away with the imagery. There's usually three or so taps on offer at De Dolle with two of them permanently being reserved for De Dolle's year round offerings (Arabier and Oerbier). They do sometimes have bottles behind the counter as well, so it's always good to ask if you're looking for something specific. Across the kitty corner from the bar they also sell all sort of brewery paraphernalia like t-shirts, posters of Kris' awesome artwork, printed glasses, and also bottles to take away. English tours are only given on Sunday, but you can also set up a tour for a weekday if you have a large party with you (of 8 and over I believe.) If you've already made the drive out to West-Vlaanderen, or even to Bruges which isn't that far out from here, do make sure to stop by De Dolle to sample some of Belgium's finest non-sour traditional beers, and also if you're tired of the "European city hospitality" that Brussels, Bruges, and Gent are famous for and actually want to feel treated like a respectable human being. Even if you've never had any of De Dolle's offerings, I'd still urge you to visit -- this place is more like a playground for kidults if anything else, and I find it hard for anyone to have a bad time here. Food options limited.
