When I first signed up with Select Health it went well for the first year. I don't recall having…read moreany issues with my grocery/OTC benefits at checkout and it has happened several times resulting in the grocery clerk(s) having to remove food items until the total is the approved covered amount. This year, I don't buy any grocery/food totalling over $20 each time to avoid being declined at the grocery checkout. Also this year, my benefits were lowered with nothing left for OTC even though I have qualifying health issues I live & deal with daily. My monthly premiums went up which is why I gave the 3 stars, if anyone cares. The medical care I receive is good however; the fact that when I need a treatment related procedure done, the referral process is not handled with urgency. You will have to do the work as the patient to get your necessary procedure appointment scheduled yourself and make the call to make sure it's covered by Select Health. **What Select Health could improve on with their Health Insurance coverage plus extra help is instead of giving a Grocery delivery benefit -"Kroger Boost", make it so I could use that amount towards my Grocery/OTC benefit monthly so I can continue remaining healthy enough in my life to do my own grocery shopping! That is what my Health Insurance I pay for monthly should do.

When receiving an approval denial in the mail, SH says to call them to appeal. When you call, you get an employee who, instead of doing an appeal with you, will just redirect you to the website. When you try to communicate a grievance, management will gaslight, dismiss, and make veiled threats. All in all, when Select Health does not save me money, their basic levels of member customer service are incompetent, and their managers are just as dismissive and lazy, it's not worth it. I'll be going back to Blue Cross during the next open enrollment.

They denied almost every procedure, treatment, and medication my doctors prescribed, even when it was clearly necessary for my health. Instead of helping me get better, they made it harder to receive the care I needed. Since having this insurance, my health has gotten worse because I was unable to get the treatments and medications my doctors said were necessary. Every step of the process was stressful, frustrating, and exhausting. It felt like they cared more about denying coverage than helping patients. Health insurance should support people during difficult times, not create more problems and barriers when medical care is needed most.
