When I first signed up with Select Health it went well for the first year. I don't recall having any issues with my grocery/OTC benefits at checkout and it has happened several times resulting in the grocery clerk(s) having to remove food items until the total is the approved covered amount. This year, I don't buy any grocery/food totalling over $20 each time to avoid being declined at the grocery checkout. Also this year, my benefits were lowered with nothing left for OTC even though I have qualifying health issues I live & deal with daily. My monthly premiums went up which is why I gave the 3 stars, if anyone cares. The medical care I receive is good however; the fact that when I need a treatment related procedure done, the referral process is not handled with urgency. I've had Select Health for 2 years. Pros: Cheap plan for the two years I had them. Copays also very affordable. Cons: depending on location you'll have to travel 30+ miles to see the doctor you want/need. (Especially specialists) Backstory: Was told originally as long as it's a UCHealth doctor I see, I should have no problem and it'll be covered. Not true, and especially for specialists. If you want to have your care in the city you reside I don't recommend this insurance company. Select Health is partnered with Nations Benefits which provides a credit card for Kroger grocery,Wellness, Rewards, Boost, each with varying balances. Most roll over month to month but the Kroger food benefit does not. With four balances to manage and with an arcane or inane grocery benefit which does not identify which groceries are eligible until you have checked out and find out some groceries don't qualify. (In my last outing it was several canned goods that were generic or off brand) Which is a hassle because you don't know until you get home, call Nations Benefits,and go item by item down the list to find out which items did not qualify. This whole system is absurd. Switched from UHC (bronze exchange plan) to Select Health Value (bronze exchange plan) in Colorado, and it's been nothing but a giant hassle so far. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You will never be able to conveniently book an appointment online again! Select Health will never appear in the booking drop down menu (even for Intermountain, which owns Select Health). You will therefore have to call the doctor's office and wait on hold to book like it's 2002.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]On top of all that, the website sucks, and the directory has a positively awful search feature.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]But don't bother calling customer service for help, because they don't know how to use that directory either.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This thing has forced me to waste more time managing my own care and has caused me significant care delays. Unfortunately I advise people to look for a different insurance option. I chose them because (Without notice) the University of Colorado stopped accepting all other ACA Exchange plans from other insurers at the start of 2025. After many, many calls I found out that this is now the only Exchange plan they would accept, so I enrolled. However, the plan is truly terrible. For instance, I went to a UC MD routine check up, and the labs were sent to Quest Health and not covered by Select Health as out of network. After two appeal letters, they were re-run as in-network, but still amounted to over $700.00 because of "Disallowed items," although these were routine labs from a general check up. Garbage insurance and since they are owned by IHC, they can control the whole health process. They don't cover medicines that are the most effective at treating disease and act like they're doing the patient a huge favor when they approve sub-standard meds that need approval. I am insulin resistant and had been taking Mounjaro to control my blood sugar. They refuse to cover it now and use the excuse that it's because it is prescribed for weight loss by some drs. Filed an appeal after I found out my lab work was sent to a place. They don't cover granted it was my providers responsibility. My provider denied responsibility. I filed and "exception" with SelectHealth. They said they would pay their deductible which would be $20 of a $400 bill. So I filed an appeal. Complete and utter disaster of a company. They decided halfway through the year that I needed a new member ID number effective Jan 1 of that year. Went and took back all the money they had paid to my providers, reprocessed all my claims all in a different order, and I ended up owing different people money and owed more than I did the first time they processed my claims. Took them months to "fix" it, and during that time I was getting more bills processed and ended up owing on them even though I had met my out of pocket max- they just didn't have record that I had because they hadn't reprocessed that bill yet. When reprocessing my bills they overlooked the biggest and most important one for months until I pointed it out. Been a SelectHealth customer for years. While switching jobs, I moved from one SH plan to another. Went to pick up RX in that month. Called SH and the pharmacy to make sure that if I picked it up in that month, I would still be able to have it paid for. Was told that because it was delivered by doc before the plan ended, it would be covered. Fast forward 3.5 months, and they send me a bill for the RX that they covered and now want to be paid back on. NM that I choose to be a current customer. Nope, they decide to try and stick it to me for $50. Tried to get them to act reasonably, but they won't giving em a couple week before I committ to another insurer that doesn't nickel and dime me for stuff they said they'd previously cover. Now that I have switched to a more premium plan I have found select Health to be better than I used to think it was.

Select Health changed their Medicare OTC benefits to Nation Benefit in 2023 and it's a disaster. They first required a card that was never sent, then they changed the website to say the card was not required for on line purchases, but the site would not allow you to purchase anything without activating the card you had never received and that the website told you you didn't need to activate. The only way to contact them is through their phone number that leaves you on hold forever. Terrible. read more
