Broken down old crap boat with flat tires on the boat-trailer, coolant bottles under his trailer for all to see, a bit like a meth-lab sort of feel. He/she never came out to check on things (ie. did anyone pay for the night?) We must have been the only ones who paid that night, silly us. The toilets and shower were broken and out of order and obviously had been for some time. The one por-to-let was a mess and unsanitary. Trash all over the camp sites. The boat ramp and camp sites are used by unsavory locals who are coming out to shoot-up and get high and service clients. Obviously a regular place for this to happen and must not be on the Humboldt County Sheriff's local patrol. This campsite needs to be taken over by BLM, since they have a ranger at the front gate who actually does his job.

Some of the regulars are a little sketchy and the staff doesn't seem too concerned even though it could be a safety issue considering the location. There's a lot of transient traffic. Worst of all are the instructors. They must be the worst paid fitness staff in town and their skills and attitude reflect that. There's one lady in particular who completely runs your workout with her extremely loud, obnoxious directions. She's clearly trying to desperately hold off her own aging procees and it isn't working. Her routines are right out of the 80s aerobics craze. She's got crazy red hair, but you'll be able to figure out who she is right away. Stay clear!

The chain "restoration hardware" started right here in old town. They also have both new and used book shops. One of them is the bookLegger, which has both. A fun shop to stop in is Seymour's novelty shop. From Whoopie cushions, to pink flamingos, to everything in between. There is also a "California visitors center", where you can go in and get local tourist information. There are some great places to eat, from restaurants to otherwise. My two favorites are "los bagels" on 2nd St., and "living the dream ice cream". at the foot of F Street... In season, you can take the Humboldt Bay Harbor tour on the Madaket, a historic boat which used to be a ferry before the days of the Samoa Bridge. During the summer. They have a big open air market on Friday night, and the old town Fourth of July festival is another open air market. That is also lots of fun to visit. The crown jewel of old town has to be the Carson mansion.... A beautiful old building. Unfortunately, it's not open to the public, as it's a private club, but if you know a member, or you can get get in as part of an event, it's really nice on the inside. There are some homeless people in old town, but they pretty much stay to themselves, the best thing to do is just use common sense. You will have a great time here. On the first Saturday of every month, is the popular "arts alive festival." From 6 to 9 PM, they have live music, late night, gallery openings, and businesses celebrating the local vibrant arts scene. It's very popular, and another great event.

A nice easy walk/hike. Sequoia Park Garden - Really small, but still very nice and beautiful. The caregiver was also really friendly. Sequoia Park Zoo - If I had young kids, I would have enjoyed it more. My daughter enjoyed it. Atmosphere - Historic, victorian homes, art, etc. Kind of reminds me of Napa or Carmel... Small city, but I am told the largest for their county. I believe the largest coastal city is between SF and Portland, OR. The city is approximately 14.5 sq miles with 26.5k population. Service - Good. Mostly self service walking around Old Town. Price - Depends on what you buy, eat, or drink. It's located at the part of the park where Glatt and W Street intersect. I could tell it was very well taken care of by the gardeners. The dahlias are represented in so many colors: white, Lavendar, red, orange, pink, magenta, white and pink, and they had spine and pom types.

The forecast was partly cloudy in the mid 50's. The garden isn't very big but I enjoyed the variety of flowers that were in bloom which is generally between May and September. Our visit was during the Memorial Day weekend. Took some time taking lots of photos of the colorful blooms including a collection of gorgeous dahlias... wish they had labels for all the flowers for us who are botanically illiterate. Flowers are beautiful subjects for photography that's why I love botanical gardens. The garden also featured a wishing well and a gazebo for small gatherings and events and, also, a small sundial, unfortunately, there was no sun at that time to tell the time of day ツ Sadly, we weren't able to go across to the park. Maybe having a video to watch+re-watch, while waiting your turn, would help. Also, I'd like to see more feedback and analysis of form, along with specific instruction for improvement, be provided. This site was a good fit. We had to park the Jeep away from our site because there wasn't any room for it. The park and people working here were good. The grounds around the RV park were in poor condition. The grass between the sites were very long. No edging either. The WiFi was good and the place was clean otherwise. The big problem was the street access coming into and exiting the RV Park was terrible! Pit holes so large you would of thought land mines had gone off. This is unacceptable!!! Going in and out each day was a major chore. Kind wouldn't stay here again unless the road is fixed. Oh heck no!!!!!

The park now has dead grass and the trash bins are wedged under low hanging branches. We reserved a certain site for one-night but when we arrived at 3:30 PM, the office was closed and someone was in our site. We waited 30 minutes and no one called back at the numbers listed. So we checked their online reservation system (Campspot) for another empty spot and just decided to park there. We didn't want to hook up for fear we would be asked to move. We had an appointment in town and so we left a note on our door with our phone number. No one ever called our entire time there. We will NOT stay there again.

Historic Military Fort [Eureka CA]…read more There's a lot to take in historically from Fort Humboldt. Although this site seems peaceful now, at one time it was the hub of a conflict between settlers and Native Americans. We walked through the grassy park area stopping to read interpretive signs along the way educating ourselves. The history of Fort Humboldt State Historic Park dates back to 1853. First, one of the most famous military personalities to serve here was Captain Ulysses S. Grant, the future U.S. President and commander of all Union forces during the Civil War. He was stationed here as Captain of Company F, 4th Infantry, in 1853-1854. His story is shared in historic signage and markers. No wait... FIRST! Fort Humboldt State Historic Park is haunted! The GhostTube app captured some anomalies when we used it. I posted a couple of videos. During its glory, the fort had 14 buildings: Officer's Quarters, barracks, a hospital, a blacksmith shop, a horse stable, and even a bakery. Wooden markers can be seen at the park indicating where they once stood. The reconstructed Surgeon's Quarters and original Fort Hospital remain standing till today and I wonder if they open the doors to visitors during park hours. One part of the park are collection of exhibits not related to the military history: railroad equipment and machinery used in the early days of 150 years of local logging history including a Donkey engine.
