they have the best kayak rentals around for super inexpensive. Their gear is new and in great condition. I've been able to try out several boats to see which kind I might be interested to buy from one of the local outfitters. One of the best things is you can launch your boat right from the aquatic centers boat ramp so you don't need to load it up on your car which is awesome. The staff are super helpful and accommodating, they teach you about the tides, weather and conditions so you stay safe. You even get a little instruction too. It's great to get out on the bay and explore the wildlife. So far I've seen harbor seals, river otter, and tons of birds. I'll definitely be coming back all summer. read more

Gorgeous event center right on the water with spectacular views no matter where you are in the building. Perfect place to hold an event, fundraiser, class, etc. The center is very clean, nice lounge and spacious. Aquatic Center also has loads of classes that you can launch right from the docks, paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, it's so fun!! I highly recommend checking out their catalog that's dispersed around town. Because it's managed by HSU, the classes are super affordable. read more

I went looking for kayak rentals and stumbled upon this lovely spot. Me and a party of nine (my family) was treated properly and the attendees were very informative about the water's forecast. This was so ideal due to there being children and first time kayakers in my family. I highly recommend thia spot for anybody. The staff will be sure to educate you with how to properly use a kayak and help accommodate the people on wether to use a kayak or canoe depending on the party size or weather forecast. All from an expertly trained staff that knows what they are doing. All gear is impeccably maintained. Facility is friendly and inviting. Your car is safe in the off street parking lot. The water is flat and ready for play on most days. You can put in on the dock and paddle around Woodley Island stopping on the water front to grab an ice cream at Living the Dream. And you really will be living the Humboldt Bay dream! The HBAC also has a beautiful banquet room to rent for that after work party you wanted to have. Or for an all day meeting. You can stare at the bay while that boring speaker drones on and on. Complete with on site staff to assist you with A/V needs and a full kitchen for your caterer. A great place to rent sea kayaks, stand up paddle boards, canoes or simply a life jacket, wetsuits or whatever. Their boat area looks like the largest toy box in humboldt county! My husband and daughter paddled around woodley island and saw tons of wildlife and epic views. To to rent a kayak for the day was only $25 for the whole day! So affordable. The staff were wonderful, very safety aware and informative. Next time we go back, my husband is going to take their affordable kayak classes for $45 or one of their private class for $60 for a two and half hour lesson. Anyway i highly recommend the aquatic center. It created some awesome memories. read more

My experience has been very positive. The Aquatic Center carefully matched me up with the perfect instructor with lots of experience. It is a great place to start in the world of water sports. The instructors are very patient and supportiver. All skills levels from the beginner who is just starting out to the very experienced can learn new skills both through classes and individual private lessons. Both are very reasonable. They have a huge selection of recreational kayaks, both sit in and sit on tops and SUPs (stand up paddle boards) to enjoy right off their dock.
