During my appointment with Dr. Kraffert, he offered me dietary advice, a psychological evaluation and grooming tips, not things I was expecting from the dermatologist, but I especially missed the dermatological evaluation. He did refer me to what I am sure is a competent medical professional, but after the experience, I chose to seek other advice. read more

my visit with Dr. Kraffert was one of the weirdest medical experiences of my life. He spent most of the appointment badmouthing the other person who I'd seen before in his office. He barely had the time to glance at the bumps on my skin I was concerned about and actually said that the cutaneous lymphoma I had some years earlier didn't exist. That would be news to the oncologist at Kaiser who had treated it . I was still worried about the bumps on my neck, so, after quite a long wait I got an appointment at a competent dermatologist in Arcata and learned that what Dr. Kraffert couldn't be bothered with is in fact a basal cell carcinoma. I saw a physician's assistant or derm assistant and the care was helpful. They were friendly and pleasant. I received immediate treatment for the removal of some dark spots on my face, and recommendations for another minor matter. My only concern is that perhaps if I had seen an MD they might have identified a problem with my leg that could have been visually diagnosed along with some prior symptoms I described. My preference would be to see an MD initially and then I would be fine with the assistant performing a dimple procedure in which they were competently trained. read more

When our longtime Dermatologist retired, I worried about finding another provider in the area. I was pleased that Humboldt Dermatology was accepting new patients and both my wife and I were given appointments in less than two weeks. That was three years ago and we have been continued to use them for all of our Dermatology needs. We find the entire staff to be very accommodating and the PA, James Pratt to be very professional and capable in addressing all of our concerns. We are notified promptly, usually within one week, of laboratory results when needed. Both my wife and I would not hesitate to recommend Humboldt Dermatology to our froend and relatives. read more

I saw James Pratt, PA-C and had a very good visit, he was very thorough with a good bedside manner and a good nurse also attending. Inconsiderate, uncaring, horrible behavior at the front desk! When I found out what happened to my Mother, I was so angry at the people who contributed to this. Yesterday morning she called Redwood Capital Bank to activate her card, they said, "oh, sure, no problem, it's done." So she goes to her doctors appointment at Humboldt Dermatology and her ride went to the library expecting about an hour before she needed to pick Mom back up. Mom gets in there to pay her co-pay, the card didn't work. She then asked if she could please use their phone to call the bank, would only tie up their 1 of 4 lines for only a few minutes. They said no. No? Really? WTF!! She wound up having to walk to the bank, two blocks away where they finally activated her card. On the way back it started to rain, she tried to hurry so she wouldn't miss her appointment and tripped. With blood gushing from her head, no one, NO ONE! Stopped to help her as she was crying on the sidewalk! One person finally stopped and helped her by calling 911 and stayed with her til help arrived. I agree that the front desk person is terrible. She doesn't seem to like people. Also, they never answer the phone and even the messages state it will take them two days to return phone calls. My daughter had a severe reaction to medication prescribed and it would have been nice to get a person on the phone during business hours. No wonder they are the only dermatologists in town taking patients. I would rather drive to Santa Rosa at this point than go back to this place. read more

Today, we were turned away and denied service because we forgot out checkbook for our health insurance copay. They were unwilling to bill us and canceled our appointment. We have excellent health insurance, which covers these checkups, so to deny service actually hurt their business. We had a 6-month baby in tow, which seemed to make their choice even easier. With a lack of compassion and business-sense, I would find another dermatologist - they've lost my business. And yes, the front desk woman is rude, cold, and seemed pleased to relay the information that they were unwilling to bill us. I'd give them a zero rating if I could. read more
