I enjoy getting to know my doctors, nurses, gynecologist, Phlebotomist, and staff at the Arcata location. I appreciate that currently the staff is allowing folks who wish to wait outside or sit in the hallways can do so, in limited amounts of course. Currently, any doctors appointments are done via zoom or via phone. For the most part, those phone doctor appointments used to intimidate me. But after doing a couple of doctor appointments via phone I have felt like I have been able to take as much time as I needed during the appointments and I did not feel rushed discussing concerns with my doctor. As far as the my chart app goes I definitely feel like it's come along way since it was first develop now you can make appointments virtually, sent any questions and concerns, for the first time after Covid I was able to show proof that my TB test was negative and much more. More recently I came to the clinic to have a gynecologist appointment. The doctor Tara Moss was so patient, calming and respectful. read more

Many years going here. I have had multiple bad experiences. The worst one ended up with provider unwilling to listen to complaint and when they finally did they didn't order the correct blood test. It was a very basic thing to do and my girlfriend who works in medical coding heard they didn't order the test and she was flabbergasted. Result was I ended up in the emergency room a week later with a life threatening problem and spent four days in the hospital. ER doctors almost had me flown to San Francisco. Another time I had a grumpy doctor who had to fit me into his schedule due to the front office insisting I had to make a same day appointment for getting a cast. The doctor didn't believe me and said "I don't see why you people come here I guess you just want to save money". He then proceeded to wrap my arm ignoring the recommendation of the ER doctor and twisted my arm repeatedly. He used the wrong tape the first attempt, forgot the sock the second attempt. His demeanor softened the third time and he decided if he did the wrap differently I would be in less pain. It felt like I was being intentionally tortured. He later apologized for delaying getting my records to the specialist. I ended up in surgery after the bone had started to heal. There is more but this is getting long. Humboldt County has a provider shortage and I have been unable to find another each time I try. Getting through to the office during business hours with an urgent question is nearly impossible, and expect to wait at least two days before the team gets your question to the provider. Includes very high fever and trying to get a refill on a life critical prescription. I really wish I had an alternative. read more

This place is always available. The staff are friendly, and practical. The doctors are professional and have a great sense of humor. I really appreciate how seriously they take my concerns, and address them with quick referrals. Prescription refills are also quick turn around. Thank you for being available in a rural community, where it's impossible to find a doctor available in a private practice, unless you're a local born here or married to one. read more

My daughter received the WRONG VACCINATIONS at her 4 month appointment. The Medical Assistant said she "saw the first line on the label and just assumed" it was the correct shot. DO NOT GO HERE! Also, Daisy at the front desk has such poor customer service skills, I'm honestly shocked at how she is still employed there. She acts as though you've personally done something to her, never a "hello" or "how are you". Oh and if you have a question for your doctor or a nuRse and call to ask - dont expect a return call, like at all. Open Door clearly does not give two shits about who they employ. read more

I had a Redwood splinter in my index finger that I could not dig out with a needle so I went to see Dr. Andrew Carlson and he looked at my finger and told me I was wrong. And seeing how it was Labor day weekend and TGIF he said there was nothing in my finger and that I should leave. By Monday Labor day my index finger had swollen to the size of my big toe and turned blueish so walked over to Mad River Communty Hospital and Dr. in the Emergency room sliced my right index finger open on the inside between the index finger and the middle finger from the top of the first knuckle to halfway from the second knuckle to the third knuckkle to drain the puss and pumped my full of antibiotics from an IV drip after injecting me with similar drugs. I was in the Hospital for almost a week. The Dr. in the Emergency room told me had I waited I would have at the least lost an arm. Do you want to see the scar's (plural) and talk to the Dr. who was in the Emergency room? As I would think you think I am lying. Dr. Robert W. Henriques, MD was working there at the time as as a Physicians assistant. As was David Horowitz Physicians assistant as was Sharron Cronnin and the rest of their staff. The ONLY Open Door Clinic i recommend is the small clinic on Buhne Street. It's right next door to Crestwood. The services I've received and the people at this 1 facility are excellent. I had 1 appointment with the Tydd Street location where they failed to diagnose a collapsed retina, failed to call a referral to an eye doctor and never contacted me. I almost lost the use of my right eye. The "doctor" at Tydd Street wasn't even listening to me and paid no attention to a diagram I gave to her that clearly diagrammed my diminished sight. Stick with the Buhne Street location and I think you will be well cared for. read more

If there were zero stars it would earn a zero. The chain store operations of these clinics in McKinleyville, and Eureka that I have been to were terrible. No one else was taking new patients so I was forced to go to them. The time spent with me was exceedingly short, The time between appointments was unbelievably long and the staff uncaring and rude. I urge everyone to file grievances with Medicare and Medi-Cal. The force people off their pain meds and offer nothing but putting you on other addictive drugs like Sabaxone. It makes no sense. Other than that, they did not offer me even a tylenol for my chronic pain issues. Totally uncaring, overworked staff and a hundred different ways to bill for your lack of care. If you need medical care these people are not where you want to go. Think there are no alternatives. Think again, They think they have got a corner on care in Humboldt. Sad indeed. read more
