What a terrible experience! The guy calls, says he is on the way, over an hour goes by and nothing. He then calls and says his phone cant hold a charge and he got a flat. Now he may not even be able to come out today. This is at 11:30 am. He then calls back at 3 saying that he is on the way, well there is no one there to sign off on the junk removal, so who is going to sign off? No one. He says that it's fine this one time. He calls later saying he is IN MY BACK YARD! Because his phone couldn't hold a charge and he needed an outlet! All of the junk for removal is on the curb, past the front yard. He then proceeds to leave our receipt under the mop bucket, because that's where you leave a receipt?! After it was all said an done, he charged us 345$?!?!!?!?!?! This company is a RIP off! Please please please use someone else- BUT NOT THIS ONE!!! read more

Unreliable--Said they were coming between a certain time block and no one showed up or even called to let us know they would not be showing up. When I called them, they were disorganized and did not seem to know what was going on. Canceled the service. read more

They did what they were supposed to do; they hauled off my old, inoperable beer fridge. However, the haulers arrived late and wrote down my CC number wrong (because they were late, it couldn't be processed live). I had to deal with that the next day. Price was about the same everyone else quoted. Acceptable, but not notable in any way. read more

I had a big pile of household junk (2 old sofas, old busted cd/dvd racks, big wooden fishtank stand, an old particle-board computer desk) that I've had sitting in my driveway for the past two years (I live out in the country so we don't have big junk haul-off service, and at least the pile was out of sight from both the road and my house, but I still saw it twice every day -- headed out and coming back in). I'd tried getting friends to help me haul stuff to the junkyard, and I considered burning the junk wood, but with it being so dry all the time, that wasn't really an option). Luckily, a LivingSocial deal for Humpback Junk Removal hit my inbox back in November and I quickly called up to make sure they could come out to my place (east of Austin but still within Travis County) -- other places I'd called wouldn't consider it, because my zip code oddly enough shows up in Elgin, even though I'm nowhere near Elgin. I described where I lived and what I had, and they said no problem, so I bought the LivingSocial deal. A couple months pass, and I kept seeing that pile every day, and it's just wearing me down, so I finally called Humpback and asked about them finally hauling away my junk. They said absolutely, and asked when I'd like to have them come by -- I said how about this upcoming Saturday? I said sure, as early as possible -- they said we can have people out there between 9am-11am. I said fantastic! A little before 9am, I got a call from the driver saying they were at the top of my drive, so I walked down and watched as they quickly and efficiently loaded up my junk -- all Tetris-like in the back of the truck) that's been sitting outside for 2 years. Within minutes, 2 years of junk was loaded and ready to go, without any sign that the pile had been there at all. I would absolutely recommend Humpback to anyone needing junk hauled off -- it's worth the money to not have to hassle with renting a truck yourself and hauling stuff off to recycling or the junkyard, in the hopes either place will actually take your stuff. Purchased a Living Social deal for this company recently and was a bit worried after reading some of the Yelp review...fortunately my experience was VERY positive From the moment I called in and spoke to Vinnie to schedule, Humpback was very professional, and real easy to work with. When the crew showed up this morning (on time, after making a courtesy call to say they were en route) with their truck they were extremely polite and helpful and carted off a whole bunch of miscellaneous junk without an issue. Electronics (including a big ol pair of beat-up speakers) random lumber and paneling, and even some old furniture. I was just under the 4-cubic yard limit of the LS deal so there was no talk at all of additional charges or up-selling. Sorry to see some other Yelpers didn't have the same excellent experience I did. Would absolutely use these guys again. read more

Only the second time I've ever given a 1-star, and even that is too high. This is a scam. Period. Do yourself a favor and do not succumb to the temptation of the Groupon or LivingSocial deal or whatever other method these scam artists are using to disseminate their message. We had a small stack of old wood that we cleaned up out of the back yard when we moved in, along with a small pile of brush. When they first arrived, they claimed they couldn't take any of it -- that this isn't what they do. In other words, they weren't picking up anything they could turn around and make money on, so despite the description saying they would take "yard waste," they tried to refuse it. Then, when we pushed the issue, they tried to charge more. Already being uncomfortable, we told them to take all of the wood and then however much of the brush they could take -- we just wanted them gone at this point. They took the wood, and started taking about two twigs worth of the brush, but I'm pretty sure all they did was transfer it to my front yard, because despite the description saying they'd "clean up after themselves," they left a thick trail of leaves and sticks all the way out to the road. 0 out of 10, would not even consider using again. read more

I went with these guys because the website said "We load what you don't want and we clean up the messy trail that moving old stuff leaves behind. All of your old belongings are then taken to a Goodwill® donation location for repurposing or to a recycling center to be renewed and reused!" I had a lot of good stuff and didn't want to just throw it away. However, I was told when the guys got there that they were just taking it to the dump :(. Also, the way they handled my stuff indicated they were NOT going to be repurposing it. And, it wasn't affordable by any means! $500 per load. p.s. when they left, they dropped a gallon of sheetrock mud, ran it over, and I had to spend 30 minutes cleaning it up and scrubbing the driveway! read more

I left my voucher on my doorstep, and wasn't even home while they worked. The driver called me beforehand, and there was a follow up call the next day to check satisfaction. I had several neatly stacked and organized piles of wood from a deck that I had redone. I chose this company because of a groupon and should have checked yelp before I bought it. They turn up and show me the prices for a full box and I was a little surprised at how high they were. I was worried because when you don't stack decking neatly it can take up ALOT more space so I told them to just take the groupon worth and I'd handle the rest myself. They bartered and said they'd take it all and only charge me half a truck. That was still higher than I wanted to pay but was at least in the realm of reason so I agreed. I had to step out and when I returned they were gone, my wife had paid them, but there was still a big pile of wood. Now there was obviously a misunderstanding here, but the fact is they agreed to take all the wood for an agreed price. Obviously I was frustrated that I paid more than I wanted and still have a pile of wood to get rid of, so I called them and after getting nowhere with the lady was passed on to a manager. I wouldn't have given them 1 star based on the crew, they were late but they called to tell me, they picked up some of the wood and did a good job. What really frustrated me was the two conversations I had with the manager who in the end was trying to tell me I agreed to pay for 4 piles out of 5. WTF would I only want 80% of the wood removed?!?!? Right from the beginning there was no understanding on his part and it was an argument and a fight to just get what I agreed to in the first place. Which I never did get. In the end I was so angry with him that I just said thank you, I will never use your service again, and said goodbye. The groupon is likely worth it if you have a small amount of stuff to remove. But otherwise stay away from this service, it is overly expensive and they don't honor their verbal agreements. read more

(this is specifically about trying to schedule with them via their website) So, I have a storage I've been cleaning out, and I got online this Saturday to see if Humpback Junk was able to come and get the trash from it. Their website had a slot available on the day I needed to be out, so I clicked through and set up a pickup. Or so I thought. I didn't hear from them on Monday, so I went back to the website and tried to find a way to confirm my appointment. I didn't see anything, so I just booked again and sent an email explaining that I just booked again and wanted a confirmation. This morning, I got a call from a very pleasant lady who regretfully informed me that neither of my reservations had gone through. So, I'm screwed. To avoid my fate, if you choose to use these folks, perhaps you should call them directly. To avoid making customers sad, perhaps they should FIX THEIR WEBSITE. read more

I got a groupon deal but when they got here they told me it would be 3 times more to haul away my stuff. This is a classic bait and switch, period. They will only remove a little bit of your pile for the special price, I sent them away and called Groupon who refunded my money. I feel like Ive been ripped off. Bought a living social deal for junk removal ($100 worth) through this company (Humpback Junk Removal) and scheduled the junk removal. They showed up and took 2 trash bags and a medium dog house and left 90% of the junk that i had piled for them. They told me there were limits (not published in the voucher). They took the 3 larger items (read 2 trash bags with leafs and medium dog house) and left me all the small items (less work for them of course). Didn't appreciate the attitude and the fact that they wanted at least $300 more to haul the rest! Horrible! Living social made it right but these guys didn't even try when I contacted them! read more

Was off to a rough start but when they arrived they were professional, fast and friendly. Getting them scheduled to come out in the first place was challenging because they seem to be busier than they can support, but seem to be trying. After scheduling a 5pm pick up on the weekday (which is their latest option) I left work early to meet them. At 5:30 the driver called and said they were running late but they would be there at 7, I waited until 8 and driver indicated he was on the way. 8:30 and he called to cancel saying the truck was too full. I was disappointed because I had moved a ton of trash to my driveway the day before. My biggest concern was if they were going to leave me hanging another 8 days for a reschedule. When I called the next day they had already scheduled a pickup for that afternoon to reserve a time for me and ensure I was taken care of, for this they receive my 'make it right' vote. Which is all I expect from companys, nobody is perfect - If they make it right I'm happy. read more

Proceed with caution with Humpback Junk Removal! They are affiliated with Blue Whale Moving company. After moving with Blue Whale, I received an email from them for $25 off for use with Humpback Junk Removal. I needed to get rid of a couch so I decided to schedule an appointment for removal of my old couch. When I spoke to the person on the phone, he quoted me $95 to remove a 3-cushion couch (not a sectional or overly large couch). I told him I had received a coupon for $25, and after I told him that, he confirmed verbally that the cost to me would be $70 + tax. Well, when the two gentlemen arrived to remove my couch, they told me the cost to remove a couch is $195 and not $95. At that point of my moving process, I was in a time crunch to be fully moved out, so I agreed to pay it. I tipped both of these gentlemen (different gentlemen than my movers) $20 each also. These two gentlemen were also pleasant to deal with, but under-quoting me on a simple couch by more than half the actual cost is a pretty disappointing. Quite honestly, I felt like I was then being manipulated because I was forced to pay the money given my time constraints. I highly recommend getting all quotes in writing as opposed to verbally. I normally do get everything in writing, and against my better judgment, I did not on this one, and it ended up coming back to bite me. Two thumbs down. read more

Humpback Junk Removal seems like a nice company. They have a nice website, they have a nice mission, they have a nice receptionist who is friendly when you're making an appointment. That's nice. The problem is, Humpback has HORRIBLE service. Apparently Humpback considers it just fine to call people at 6:45 in the morning to "confirm" an appointment scheduled for 1pm that day and then proceed to also ask you to change your appointment time to something hours earlier that you've planned, oh, and since you're awake now, please tell us about the stuff you need hauled off. I don't care who you are, the only reason anyone should call that early is if someone has died in the family or the zombie apocalypse has started. And asking people to change their appointments day-of is just tacky. You've had over a week to plan your routes and schedules now please stick to them and whatever you do JUST DON'T FLIPPING CALL ME AT 6:45 IN THE MORNING. After having that terrible start to my day, the service then shows up, puts junk in the truck and then says he can't take some of the stuff because it's too long. I say, "ok, but I TOLD you I had long stuff... remember that call that got me out of bed? yeah I told you I had REALLY LONG boards to haul of. part of an old deck. ring any bells?" Oh, but this guy didn't come prepared, he says... he usually has a chainsaw with him to cut stuff like this. Just not today. "Great, well then why don't you go get a chainsaw and come back and take the rest of my junk?" Oh, but sir... that will cost you another $108 because I have to make another trip out here. "WTF??? YOU"RE THE ONE THAT"S NOT PREPARED! " Oh, but sir... $108 is the minimum for another visit.... O...M...F...G. These people are ridiculous. "Alright... I give in, I'll pay you your extra money just get this crap out of here." Ok sir... I'll be back tonight or tomorrow and take it away.... "Great." a week goes by... the crap is STILL sitting in my garage, uncollected. My credit card shows that they've charged me already... and for more than the receipt they gave me. My receipt says $160. I'm charged $173.20. Time to make some phone calls. "We'll look into it." is all they say. A bit later I get a call from a panicked sounding driver - the guy who originally picked stuff up saying he'll be here tomorrow... yeah, we'll see. In any case, if you use Humpback, be prepared to be extremely explicit in everything you ask for and all your details. Otherwise you'll probably end up having to pay hundreds extra. read more

Great experience setting up a next day appoinment to get my old fence hauled away. The haul away crew was very courteous. The $89 Groupon was worth the price. As an FYI, I was required to pay tax on the $200 value of the Groupon and not the $89 I paid for the junk removal. read more

They arrived on time and went straight to work. They were very fast and it was quite impressive how they stacked and squished everything efficiently together in the truck. Linda was amazing - she moved faster than the big burly guy that was with her :) and was up and down the stairs carrying heavy items like nobody's business. She was very inspiring and made me want to get back to the gym! I did not think it would all fit, but they did it. One load, lots of junk but also good furniture to donate. I've read reviews on similar companies saying how they just toss stuff in to take up as much space as possible to charge more, but that was far from the case here. Linda and Robert were rock stars and managed to get a gigantic old school big screen TV into their truck without a ramp on our steep driveway. Purchased the Living Social voucher for $89 also. The driver was very courteous and called asking if he could come ahead of schedule. Great! But..the minute he pulled into the driveway, we were hit "with the upcharge" like everyone else is saying. He informed us that it would be an additional $75.00 + tax. We agreedd to the additional amount just as long as the stuff was gone. After loading our junk, he gave me an invoice for $97.68! I asked about the $22.68 tax amount on a $75.00 bill? They charge you TAX on the $200.00 amount!! This is confusing to me because first - purchased a voucher for $89 total, then was informed it would be an additional $75. Never agreed to the $200.00 additional charge. How can you charge tax on an amount NOT agreed on. I could have just purchased another Social Living voucher. It seems that this is the problem with Humpbackjunk. They are very courteous, on time and load everything efficently, but they WILL charge you extra and THEN charge you tax on an amount you never purchased. read more

On the phone with Living Social as I write this. Humpback and their four cubic yards of junk removal for $89 is a TOTAL SCAM. These pieces of garbage showed up at my house to remove junk I had all piled from getting my house ready to sell. Nothing out of the oridinary, nothing that doesn't qualify for removal as per their ad or the fine print. The size of the area I had piled the junk was less that 4 cubic yards. Their TRUCK wasn't big enough to hold 4 cubic yards. Yet they charged me $292 total AFTER they loaded the junk. If Living Social doesn't resolve this immediately, I will be contacting the TX State Attorney General's office and BBB. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. Living Social should cancel their association with this company immediately for unethical, illegal practices and refund every single person who purchased this service. read more

Used a LivingSocial voucher and had a good experience. Scheduled online, always a bonus. They called near the end of the window to say they wouldn't be there for another hour and a half - no prob. They did show up about 80 min later and got everything out very quickly. We had a large grill, large old tube TV, TV stand, and back seats for a PT Cruiser, and some other small things. Just paid an additional $16.50 in tax. Wouldn't hesitate to use this service again. I feel free with that junk out of my house and my storage space a little cleaner! read more

Logan worked hard to work me into their schedule as early as possible, and when they weren't able to show up due to unforeseen circumstances, he offered me a HUGE discount without my even asking.
