Okay, so my earlier review did not meet Yelp standards. Maybe it was the account I used that I had to create in order to use Yelp a year or so ago on a trip. Anyway- Smiley's was great. We hired them last month before moving. This review should be even more glowing as they hauled our pile of trash bags that were not picked up by the city after an ice storm. But I couldn't add any more stars. They came, they hauled, and they left the place much cleaner than before.  Spencer and Co.  were very good about what was going and what was not, dealing quickly with our mattresses, old sectional, piles of miscellany, etc.  Super nice and worked swiftly around a couple of nervous cats and a 12 lb. Contractor walked off the job and left my garage a mess. Spencer and crew were so friendly and reliable despite the massive mess and uphill trek it took to clean it up. He found some materials that he didn't think we should throw out and pulled them aside for us. He even swept up my garage on the way out. I did a massive clean out during a trip to my parents house, and I had rented a truck to haul everything to the dump. When I saw how much that was going to cost and how many trips/hours it was going to take to get everything removed, I decided I needed a hauler STAT! They worked with me and made an extra effort to get everything removed before my Dad could go in and harvest our the rat eaten paper from the pile, and picked everything up as I was flying out again. I had originally contacted Junk King, but they never showed up despite confirmed appointments - twice. I call Smiley's on Saturday afternoon, and they squeezed my job in early Monday in time to continue with the laying of new floor tiles in the bedroom. Smiley did more than haul away our garbage he brought me back from the brink of a breakdown. After a family member was unwell and we had to clear out a mountain of garbage that had heartbreakingly accumulated in our garage. I was distraught and overwhelmed. Did an OUTSTANDING job at my new place in Elgin!! This is the after picture of a storage areas filled with items such as a refrigerator, very old bales of hay, trash, broke water hoses, etc. he takes care to sweep up the mess as well. He also took down 2 old building, and old chain link dog kennel and did a GREAT job. He continually asked questions to ensure he didn't remove something I may want to keep and was very polite to make sure I was happy with the job before sending invoice. He and his team worked very hard and took care at own initiative to ensure boards with nails were placed out of the way so the horses don't step on them while I'm waiting to burn. I was very impressed. I made an appointment a week ahead of time. Smiley called the day before to verify that I was ready and he also gave me 15 minutes notice that he was on his way. When I heard a knock on the door, I was surprised to be greeted. He introduced himself and his helper. He also wiped his feet before coming into my place. I did not have much but it only took him less than 15 minutes to move everything out and on to the trailer. His prices are very reasonable. I did like that he tries to recycle most of the items he gets. This was a great find and I would recommend his serve to anyone. read more
