Good yum cha but unremarkable This is a pretty good spot for yum cha. We came here for lunch on a weekday. It was quiet and the staff were friendly and attentive. The dishes we ordered were good but we thought that the dumpling skins were a little bit glutinous, which makes the yum cha a bit stodgy and heavy! The egg tarts were quite right either - the filling was good but the pastry seemed undercooked and oily. Apr 28, 2016 We stopped here for yum cha with friends on the way from the airport to the CBD because this was the highest rated yum cha restaurant in Sydney. It was lunch time on a Saturday and the queue stretched out of the door and down the street. Luckily we had made a booking so we were able to go straight in as soon as a table became available. The restaurant is quite small so there is no room for the dumplings to be wheeled around on trolleys - instead the wait staff bring them around on trays. Our household has our favourite places to do our Yum Cha including Marigold, Sea Treasure and Hung Cheung in Marrickville. Hung Cheung as with most Yum Cha might require a bit of a wait as it's teeming with business however it's worth it and at almost half the price of the other Yum Cha restaurants and the efficiency of service is a force to be reckoned with. Squeak.....Squeak...... Squeak that's the white noise in Heung Cheung as all the trolleys roll past. Paper lanterns hang from bright pink walls all the garish of cheap bling. We wait like animals crouching for prey and then we hit. Prawn dumplings, Yeow Chee, Sumei, Chinese broccoli, pork dumplings and custard tarts for the finale. Feel lucky to be part of a city that has so much diversity in cuisine. Verdict: For two people 8 dishes were $37.50, fantastic service and wonderful food. read more

Best Ym Cha in Sydney area, just beware that weekends you will be lining up outside on a ticket number system! Everything is fresh and healthy and hot to the table. Seating is cramped, usual groups of families with hipsters and a few inner west bogland who are usually trying to impress their friends with a 'cultural' meal... They usually ByO the VB to the table at 9:30am... Not that booze and Boullion shouldn't mix at 9:30... Calamari. Top Hit. Always! read more

This is definitely the best yum cha I've had in Sydney. The mango pancakes are just... not matched anywhere else. Trust me I've tried. The food comes out and is fresh, and from the turn over and waiting for tables of patrons, it means that if you want to get in before the mango pancakes run out - then earlier is better. It's also one of our favourite yum cha breakfast places. Sometimes after a big night you have to recover on a Sunday! It's win all around. read more

Lots of mentions about the yum cha, so thought I'd ramble about the dinner service instead. Good points: * doesn't get too busy at night so service is always great * San Choy bau is one of the best in the area! * the classic dishes are all done well (think beef and black bean, chicken ginger and shallots etc). Not so good points: * the dying fish/prawns in the fish tank :-/ * a touch pricey when you compare it to other local Chinese restaurants. All in all, good points outweigh the bad and I'll no doubt be back in the couple of weeks! read more

Lovely small authentic restaurant located at Marrickville , really can compete any yumcha restaurants in Chinatown. Tips: you have to order from the staffs because they have some amazing authentic dishes which would not be readily available, such as blood jelly( if you like), steamed rice noodle with deep fried dough, crispy yam dumpling, etc. read more

Not the kind of Chinese I'm used to. Worst Very week curry. That was strangely yellow. Won't go back.

Not as cheap as the Cabramatta yum cha places but less crowded and hectic and still good value and quality.

Located in the intersection Marrickville Road and Petersham Road, this Yum Cha joint is so jam packed during noon time. If possible try to be there by 11 am. There is not much to complain about this place, the service is pretty acceptable. If you can speak a little Cantonese/Mandarin use that when communicating with the older lady. English is a safer option for the younger one. IMHO the food is pretty standard. The Cheung Fun is very good. and the Tofu Jelly wold be the runner up today (would be better if it is not as sweet). Baked BBQ Pork bun is not as good as imagined. Most probably we expect too much after our Tim Ho Wan experience. The Ham Shui Ko has got it all wrong, skin too thick, not enough meat or prawn. Price is something you cannot complain about here. If you are an average eater, it would most likely cost you 15 dollars per head. read more

This is my family's local yum cha go to place and now it's my friends local place to escape to. Do not fear notr judge the restaurants exterior. This spot has been around for many years! The food is authentic and appealing to all. Definitely a must try for the ones lurking here! :) read more

An enormous selection for Yum-Cha at inexpensive prices, Hung Cheung has been a stayer in Marrickville and always attracts a crowd. You'll want to enjoy fried wontons and all other things fried. The mango pancakes filled with cream and mango are light and tasty but don't expect complex flavours here. Its basic good yum-cha. read more

Went back for the first time since they were on A Current Affair for drying meat on the clothes lines. Most of the dumplings were far too salty and then the prawn dumplings had terrible prawns. Not sure if they weren't washed or still had shells on them but they were gritty. Will go to Chinatown next time I feel like Yum Cha. read more

Wow! best Chinese restaurant in Sydney, the staff are excellent, the food authentic and extremely tasty. A bit on the expensive side but well worth it. We eat here quite a bit being a local, mainly dinner, can get busy in the summer months and popular for large groups. Love this place! read more

I have been here before and enjoyed the food, however on this occasion we left VERY disappointed. We had a pot of tea and 4 VERY basic dishes between 2. We had to send a fifth dish - battered whitebait - back because it was cold and soggy. $44.20! We had to wait AGES between service rounds despite the restaurant not being busy, but thank goodness, because to pay that much for such poor food and service is not acceptable. We did air our concerns when leaving (even BEFORE we received the bill, by the way) and the manager did not care in the slightest. When we walked in, someone else eas complaining about the cold dry duck. When I said that customer was right, the manager simply told me he had ordered off the menu, not had yum cha! So I guess yum cha AND a la carte is bad! Zero customer customer service - and $10 for a plate of 3 dumplings?! Come on. Never again. I wish I could give zero stars. Not that they care. read more
