We were next door at Hav-A-Cigar and popped in for dinner. It was AMAZING. We ordered tea, the pork spring rolls, curry chicken soup and combo A with pork. Everything was so good. Pork spring rolls were skinny & crispy - just the way I like them (I don't like the fat ones). I dipped mine in Hoisin and fish sauce - sooooo good. Husband had the curry chicken soup and said it was awesome. Spicy but not too hot. The wonton soup served with the combo was one of the best I've ever had. It was light, refreshing and flavorful. The pork in my dish was sliced thinly and cooked perfectly. The prices are good too - the soup is priced lower than many other pho & soup places. Best part was the waitress - we both said we don't think we've had a nicer server EVER. She was pleasant and kind; we were really impressed. She was so friendly!! read more

First time here and this was an excellent recommendation for the day when I needed feel good food. I liked the fact that the place was busy but I still felt I was able to have a good conversation throughout the meal. Tables are arranged in a way you don't feel packed in but has lots of seating options. Staff was very friendly and in general the place has a nice atmosphere. The location is within the long strip mall on 99 st, so if you're driving south towards it, best to turn at the lights just before, as the road can be quite busy at certain times of days making a left turn difficult. Food arrived very quickly! It was hot, fresh and great tasting. The spring rolls we ordered ahead of time were the perfect amount to add to the meal. Vermicelli bowl and rice dish are both very reasonable costs and we were very happy with our choices. I think the next time I've got more apatite I'll try the rice dish as it also comes with a small bowl of soup. Definitely will be back again! read more

Hung Phat still is the best place on the south side to get Vietnamese food. Bonus that it's also one of the few Vietnamese places in town that are open on Tuesday! Such a rarity to find. Ol and I hadn't hung out in a looooooong time so after a random encounter the day before, we decided to meet up. Her favourite is pho, which seems to be the only thing we go for when we eat. No complaints on my end, besides the unfortunate fact that I had already ate Vietnamese for lunch earlier that day. The menu is way too long so you can take a look here (see 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). I also grabbed a takeout menu, which has everything listed in a much more readable, condensed way. Don't ask me why there's random spaces in between the regular menu sheets. - Pork spring rolls (#3) ($6.95) - comes with a side of peanut sauce. Freshly made, the pork slices were generous portions and had a great bite to them. - Garlic shrimp rolls (#4) ($7.95) - comes with a side of nuoc cham dipping sauce. Deep fried, you get 16 pieces. Piping hot. These won't blow you out of the water but are satisfactory enough. - Curried chicken soup with vermecilli (#36) ($11.95) - I'm always looking to try something new so it was a battle between the Phnom Penh bowl and the curried chicken. Obviously, the latter ran out. I have no idea how HP does it but their bowls are deceiving (in a good way). It seems like you keep on eating and eating endlessly; but you can't stop because it's so damn tasty. Broth was complex and umami with a mix of sweet, spicy and savoury. - Pho tai (#13) ($10.95) - Ol's go to is always pho tai. I've never seen her order anything else when it comes to pho. She ate the whole bowl, 'nuff said. Nothing but good things to say about Hung Phat. I'll be back soon to try a couple more of their more interesting soup options. read more

I was looking for good Vietnamese in the area and went to Hung Phat based on the ratings and reviews. Unfortunately I found the food to be disappointing and lack luster. The service was also mediocre. I eat in these types of Vietnamese restaurants all over and I have a pretty good idea of what to expect however Hung Phat was below my expectations. I asked the waitress for recommendations and she lost patience and walked away. She didn't even offer a beer just water or tea. I eventually ordered a beer from another wait person. Great soup in the pho! Finished it to the last drop. Tried the pork spring rolls and asked for extra lettuce to wrap them in. They knew exactly what I wanted and asked if I wanted basil to wrap as well (I did!). The spring rolls were average, but tasted good all wrapped up. I've been to Hung Phat more times than I can remember. I've also adolescently snickered at the name as many times. I go here mainly for pho and bun. They excel at both. The service here is excellent, attentive and also very friendly. Noodles are great and the both is nice and smooth with a tinge of sour. My favourite things about this place are the meatballs and the fact that you have three kinds of hot sauces on the table. Your chili oil, your thicker chili oil and your good old sriracha sauce. I shake my head with acknowledging approval with the condiment displayed on the tables. That's how you you do it! The #12 special will set you back 11.95. It has all the meat goodies so it's my favourite. Would definitely recommend this place. Whenever I find myself in the south on personal time, I will go out of my way to plan getting lunch here. Hung Phat (seriously, I can't even type it without snickering out loud) is fast and decently priced, so I dropped in to grab some take out. Waiting for your food to be made, especially while alone and starving, can often be torcher; but they have a large flat screen over front till and when I was in they had the Oiler game on, with sound! This really is Oil country. The Thai soup is good, really big with tons of seafood, but something in the flavour was a bit lacking. Better to go with a traditional Vietnamese pho soup. The spring rolls are super crispy and I loved the puffy, perfectly fried, green onion cake. The owners are very nice. The food is made fast and the restaurant is very clean. I would not go here for Friday night date night, or nice dinner with the whole family. But for everyday, decent take out or pop in for a bite, it is perfect! read more

This is pretty much my go to place for Vietnamese pho in my neighbourhood! In fact, when we went there yesterday the server recognized us! That's the type of service you're going to get from here. If you have a cold, I suggest the curry soup. It's spicy, flavourful and helps to get things moving out the nose area if you catch my drift. Typically I get the 5 colours vermicelli bowl. Tried this place out after my brother recommended it. Ordered special pho and was not disappointed. Good portion, not skimpy on the meats at all and the broth was flavourful. Not much more you can ask for in a pho. Hubby had special satay. He couldn't finish his bowl, it was full to the brim! Said his broth was spicy and didn't need any extra sauce at all. As for service, there were about six other tables and while it wasn't super speedy, it also wasn't painfully slow. Food really seemed homemade. Also noticed that the staff remembered their regulars and made them feel special. The restaurant itself was clean and neat. Saw a bit of wear and tear but nothing off putting. This is one of my favorite Vietnamese Restaurants in town. I've been visiting this place for at least 4 years. Service is always great, the people that work here is really friendly. Of course I have my favorites here, every Vermicelli is really good, the fish sauce is tasty, beef, chicken, pork, etc, all is fresh and well seasoned. Grilled beef with rice, pho, vietnamese coffee, etc. The owner is really nice, she will even remember what do you like to order there. Hung Phat Vietnamese Noodle House is located in an industrial area so usually if you go at lunch you will see people from the offices around but If you want to visit them and bring your family, there is tons of space for a group, high chairs and TV can be found here. You can also order to pick up, they always add soy sauce, hot sauce and even sticks if needed. There are tons of parking in front of the restaurant, so that is not a problem. After your dinner you also can walk around as there are few nice stores to check. With so many businesses around, this is a great area to have a Vietnamese restaurant. Parking is right outside the door which is very convenient. The tables and chairs are spaced out comfortably and there's decent ventilation in the restaurant. I don't like my hair and clothes smelling like Pho when I leave a Vietnamese restaurant. The woman who brought us the menu and tea was very polite. I assume she is the manager. Nothing really special about the tea other than it was hot. The sprouts,mint leaves, chilli pepper and lime were clean and fresh. We ordered the salad rolls as our appetizer. I didn't expect the rolls to be this big... it was packed with vermicelli, shrimp, and meat. We were only able to finish one roll each... My manager had the Satay Beef Noodle Soup. That's the only kind of soup he ever order when he eats at Vietnamese Restaurant. He described it as " the second best Satay Beef Noodle Soup in Edmonton." He also said, " the soup is not too thick and the heat on the spice is perfect." My manager used a fork... and I used chopsticks... would love to agree with his opinion but let's just say I eat out lots.... I had the Pho Dac Biet, which is the first thing on the menu. It was also the soup that the woman recommended that I should try. It was good and I found it to be very favorable. There were a lot of meat and noodles in it. One of my favourite places for bun bo hue in the city! Their broth is delicious, but I'm not a huge fan of the pho there. I definitely think they could put more meat in their noodle soups. My boyfriend loves their rice dishes with the steamed egg. Service is good but their hours are not. They close at 8pm most days and are closed Sundays, however the owners generally always offer to stay a bit later if you are making an order for pick up even after 8pm, which is great! read more

The young girl working there was very friendly,outgoing and spoke perfect conversational english which was kind of a breath of fresh air. Service was good. They know me by name, whether I call in my order or I come in to sit down and eat. It's quite nice. They seat you quite quickly, and if it's packed inside, as soon as there is space available they prepare the table and seat the next party. The service is good, food is great and always fresh. I have had multiple dishes from this establishment, my go to entrees are the vermicelli bowls in which I enjoy the combination of chicken and beef and how they are prepared and cooked. The beef satay bowl is also amazing, thinly shaven strips of beef that are so tender as they are cooked in the broth itself. The broth is so good, it's almost like a spicy gravy- I know, what a white boy thing to say ;regardless, that sauce is amazing. I almost forgot, if you order the salad rolls, modify it and ask for "beef salad rolls" .........you're welcome um! Hung Phat is a fantastic restaurant. I eat there at least once a week. I love their salad rolls (they're my quick, go-to, on the run, pick up meal). The food is always fresh and delicious and the staff is warm, welcoming and offer great customer service. I'm a "regular" and they know me by name. The restaurant is always busy but there's plenty of seating and their servers are quick, hard working and very accommodating. I live in the south end of the city and there aren't much Vietnamese cuisine restaurants around, i've always wished one opened up, and it did! I've been her 3 times, and all 3 times food has been consistent and great. I've ordered 5 color vermicelli and their beef noodle soup. Both are good in servings and tastes great. Service is fast and very kind. Because this is the only style of Vietnamese cuisine in this area, it gets extremely busy during the lunch hour, so busy sometimes that you would have to wait for a table to finish, great for their business, sucks waiting, but owell. I like that when i have a craving for a nice hot soup or light dinner i can come here, only negative i have about this place is its hours, only open till 8 is kind of a bummer. Great location, beside one of the best variety liquorstores and one of the best cigar stores in the city. The Thai style soup was excellent, loaded with lots of goodies; vegetables and meat as well. My daughter loved it so it wasn't spicy at all. My wife had a vermicelli bowl and it was fresh and delicious. Portions weren't as generous as other Vietnamese restaurants we've been to but not lacking either. The spring rolls were homemade and tastes fresh and delicious. Low and behold get back to work & take a bite.... they are pork spring rolls. Super frustrating especially after confirming they would be vegetarian. Rest of the vermicelli was super underwhelming. Having grown up in California, we've been eating good Vietnamese food our whole lives. When we moved to Edmonton we started trying out the various Vietnamese restaurants in town, including a few in Chinatown. We decided to try Hung Phat on a whim and have been going back again and again ever since. The first time there, we had the spring rolls, mi dac biet (combo noodle soup), and pho tai (beef noodle soup). All were delicious! The second time we went we had hu tieu nam vang (seafood noodle soup) and com suon (pork chop and rice). Again, both were delicious, best so far in Edmonton!
