Honestly, I could not have asked for a better tour guide. From beginning to end Rafael Fraga was informative about all aspects of Azorean life and history. I had the pleasure of being part of the Saturday, July 9, 2022, 10am group. We started at the ocean front with a lesson on architecture and a sweet bite of a local island pastry that resembles a nata. We then, moved on to a restaurant for locally produced Gorreana tea and the local muffin with Sao Jorge cheese. The next stop was for delicious once again locally made chourico, sweet potatoes, and wine from the Douro Valley on the mainland. The following stop included a history lesson at the church of Sao Sebastiao. We then stopped in on Graca market for a quick lesson on locally produced farm items. Another quick stop was made at a store selling only high quality conservas. Then, we went to a restaurant for fried baby macharel with a delicious mildly spicey red sauce to pour over the fish, and of course more Portuese wine to accompany the delicious food. We finally ended our tour at a restaurant famous for its desserts. Was it good? Yes, and it was a great way to end a great feeding frenzy. This tour was thoughtfully laid out by tour co-owner Rafael, who we were lucky to have lead us for the day, by the end of the tour you will have a good culinary grasp of the people and history of the Sao Miguel Azorean Island. If you are a foodie like myself and enjoy knowing the history of the delicious food that you are eating, then taking this tour is a must. I highly recommend this tour! read more
