A friend who lives in the area recommended this spot for dinner after I finished a shift working at CMU. We met up on a weekday around 5:30 and it was pretty empty so we were seated right away. The booth we sat in was comfy and spacious. The menu is pretty typical brewpub fare, with sandwiches, salads, pizzas, etc. We started with the Hunter's sticks, which are cheese stuffed breadsticks, served with ranch and marinara. These came out first and I liked that they were cut into pieces for easy sharing. The breadsticks were a bit harder than I might have preferred (I was hoping for something closer to a soft Bosco stick) but they were still tasty. The ranch was particularly delicious. For dinner I ordered the steakhouse salad, medium rare. Nate got the Cajun chicken club sandwich and our friend got a crispy chicken wrap. The sandwiches and wraps come with either chips or fries, and our server told us that there's no up charge for fries, which is nice and not that typical. This is also a brewery so Nate tried a couple of their beers and seemed to like them. They also have a full bar. The food was quite tasty! I liked the salad although it was pretty salty, probably the bleu cheese dressing. There was a generous amount of steak and it was cooked nicely. I had a couple bites of Nate's sandwich and I thought it had great flavor. Overall this is a nice neighborhood spot that I'd come back to, since their menu is pretty large and it seems like there's something for everyone. read more

Horrible service & mediocre food. Will never return..... came home from FL and asked my family to meet for food and drinks. When we first arrived we received a friendly welcome. As the 10 of us completed our arrival, our waitress Anna, continued to become more and more negative/rude. We waited around 10-15 minutes for drink refills (alcohol, soda, lemonade, etc.) almost every time and that was even if we could get Anna's attention to ask for drinks. I approached the manager regarding this and he gave me the excuse they are busy. I mentioned Anna's poor attitude and was given the excuse, again, it's busy. The whole restaurant only had 7 other tables. Receiving our food order took 30+ minutes. I ordered the artichoke dip as an appetizer and the chips were stale. Anna took so long to return that the dip was cold, our food was finally being delivered, where I sent the plate back. She tried to charge me for the dip, and when I told her to take it off my tab, she said she had to ask her manager. Needless to say no one from our party will be returning. read more

The food was solid. I can't complain about that. However, this was the worst service I've ever experienced. Our server didn't greet us for about 10 minutes. I ordered cheese curds which she didn't write down so we didn't get. She then told us she would get them for us for free, but then returned saying she couldn't. She barely checked up on us, and after like 30 minutes after the food we were waiting for boxes and checks and I looked around and she was just sitting at a table on her phone. I've been here a few times. It's an average place that I don't mind going back to when I'm in town. Service there is always great. The servers have been friendly and good at their jobs! I saw the kitchen staff from my seat last night. They weren't wearing hair nets. The girl's pony tail was long. Yuck. There is a good beer selection. They have decent happy hour drinks. Their fried pickles are spears and are delicious! French Onion soup is over priced and is just ok. It's not as savory as it should be. The Italian sub is pretty good and is plenty of food. The bread for it gets a little dry though and cut up the roof of my mouth. I've had their chicken tenders and those are just like and restaurant. This is the second time I've been to Hunters Ale House and every time I am entertained by the electic/ industrial feel of the restaurant. They had an awesome band there on a Friday night and the place was packed! Due to the busy Friday night the bathrooms were lacking cleanliness and the hand paper towel was all out. I was disappointed with my French dip sandwich. The meat was almost comparable to the consistency of ground beef because they had grilled the meat before putting it on the sandwich and left it on the grill for a little bit too long. Crunchy roast beef? Weird if you ask me. The bun it was on was kind of a very fluffy white bread it was unusual for the sandwich. Overall, the atmosphere was lively and fun but the food was just "ehh". I would stop again to grab a drink and enjoy the entertainment. read more

We greatly enjoyed their Black Stallion imperial stout and the Hell of a Day IPA (since I'm a sucker for Centennial hops). For me, the South of Seattle IPA in no way resembled an American IPA in mouthfeel or flavor given the British yeast, but it was still good. I don't think I can drink more than one, though. Now let's be completely honest: We'll come back for the beers for sure. In just a year of production their beers are significantly better than Mountain Town's. This tiny college town needs a respectable brewery; let's hope Hunter's can be it. So, I can't not mention the basic spelling errors on their menus that any beer person should know. Their version of centennial hops (a very common hop) was "centineial" - how does this make it onto a menu? Furthermore, Bud Light was spelled as Budlight, and on the chalkboard, Founders somehow became Founder's. Come on guys, this isn't difficult. Another issue is that Black Stallion, while very good, was said to have won a "US Beer Open Gold Medal." This is a half truth. It did win the US Open Beer Championship (note the correct name this time) -- but in the colleges and universities category. Not mentioning on the menu that it was created by students and professors at CMU is a disservice to them and makes it seem like they won a medal over major breweries, which is untrue. Where do I begin? Weeks of planning for a 21st birthday party. Called multiple times to ask if they take reservations. Said "no need, you'll be fine, we wont be busy." Walk in at the time we discussed on the phone to be told there was "absolutely no room." The hostess continued the rest of the conversation by continually raising her voice. We asked to sit at the bar and split up the group, "no room." We asked to put our name on the waitlist and she responded with "there is no room." After waiting for her to start calming down, she did end up putting us on the list, even though there was "no room." What I thought was the end turned out to not be, as she raised her voice again to tell us the exact same thing she said before "no room." We had to remove ourselves from the situation as clearly this poor woman was overworked and couldn't handle the stress of the "you'll be fine, we won't be busy" time. read more

Been here a few times to give this place a chance but so far, they have failed. Here's why: - First time ordered the tacos, which came with fries, and there was only about 5-6 fries on the plate! Even less than a small McDonald's fries portion! They should at least add more fries. -ordered the pizza and it was good. The next time I ordered the same pizza because the first pizza was good, and there was a big difference in the quality. Less cheese, they skimped on the toppings. Very inconsistent - the beer was absolutely flat. Was disgusting. I won't be coming back here. I gave this places few chances and they failed. I'll spend my money elsewhere read more

If I could give this location 0 stars I would. The service is absoutley awful. Our waiter had only one table (us) and we sat waiting for our food (two wraps) and service for over an hour and a half. The food was ok. The waitstaff was in the middle of a fight during our visit and we heard most of what was going on including swear words and clear actions by the waitstaff that interfered with our service. This is very unprofessional and I will not be returning. We sat and waited for our check while our server was no where to be found for 30 minutes. And our server had no decency to ask if we need boxes and didn't bother to ask how our food was during our visit. Just ridclous. We had to go to the lengths of asking another server for our check. Honestly, I wish that I could rate this place better. The food isn't all that great (No matter what the menu item) and it's weirdly over priced. The service tends to be pretty slow. And if you're looking for a party spot, let's face it, it's CMU. You can find WAY better. Bottom line, they've got a lot of different beers and a bar staff that's passable, so two stars.
