They are very clean and they stick to any schedule you provide . They feel like family and I feel so comfortable having my kids there.

Perhaps this is common knowledge in the neighboring senior communities among the early bird special crowd, but it's a new discovery for me after having lived in Brick over twelve years. There's a culinary school at OCVTS in their Brick location. During the school year, they offer lunch from 11:30 to 2:30 I believe from Wednesday to Friday. So I stopped by yesterday to check it out. Apparently each day they have a theme. Yesterday it was Southern /Cajon. For my appetizer, I ordered the a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, which was redolent with the flavor of the dark tan roux and was well seasoned, and to my surprise, mildly (for me) spiced even before I added the Tabasco sauce. It was a well made gumbo. I initially ordered the fried chicken entre, which came with collard greens and mac and cheese. I love collard greens and these were well prepared, as was the mac and cheese (To be honest, mac and cheese is a dish that you have to go out of your way to screw up.). However, the fried chicken was not as deftly prepared. Granted, it was three huge pieces of chicken, the size of my head (I can see why this place is popular with the senior crowd). First, it was was smothered in gravy. Now, that's not really a critism in itself, but I don't like anything on the chicken after it's fried so it stays crispy. But as soon as I put the fork into the thigh piece the entire breading seemed to slide off. Apparently they have to revisit frying 101, as do ssooo many commercial cooks. Realizing that this is a school, I felt bad sending it back, but I really wanted to enjoy the meal. So ignoring the Italian tradition of not eating fish with cheese, I ordered the blackened catfish with a Parmesan breading crust. The fish was well cooked, but the crust was overly salty. The meal was rounded out with chocolate rice pudding (now that's thinking out of the box!) that was very good. All through the meal I had unlimited refills of their excellent home brewed ice tea and some good coffee at the end Total tab $ 7.00, not including tip. How can you beat that? There were a few hiccups as I've pointed out. I wasn't pulling my punches because it's a school. But, for around the price of a happy meal you get great quality freshly prepared food served with cloth napkins. Next time I'm doing errands in Brick and want a bite for lunch, it's not gonna be pizza.

In May, I was contacted two days after the course began and informed the representative that I would not be participating because the class did not meet the qualifications I needed for my education. I was locked out of my OCC account and couldn't disenroll myself, but the woman I spoke with assured me she would process it on her end. I confirmed this with her and trusted the matter was handled. Months later, I was shocked to see a charge for that same course. I called the admissions office on January 11th and explained the situation, including that I was unable to access my account or view any billing info. I also mentioned that I was misinformed about the course transferring to my current school -- it turned out to be pass/fail and therefore not valid for graduate programs. I emailed OCC with a detailed explanation and request for help -- and got no response. I called multiple times trying to get assistance logging into my account or disputing the charge and got nowhere. I was completely ignored when I needed support the most. I would not recommend this institution based on how poorly they treat students who run into problems. No one should have to deal with this kind of negligence or lack of accountability

I took online and on campus classes and for the most part they were enjoyable. Professors I met in person were great, knew their subject and we're passionate about it. Class sizes were great too. Would recommend it in a heart beat as a way to jump start your education as ether a high school senior or as an adult student.

The teachers are loving and dedicated. At the little school, the social and educational curriculum is totally age appropriate. It is the right balance between ABC's, shapes, colors and behavioral education that kids need from age 2 to 4. Plus, the whole transition from our home, to their home (Spring Lake H&D is a house), to Pre-K and Kindergarten (Trinity Church in Manasquan) is gradual move to a more institutional setting that my kids responded to well. Our Son was reading books that were 4 and 5 sentences per page before he got to the first grade. He knew what compound and contracted words were. His math was awesome with addition and subtraction in the thousands. He was a bit over prepared for 1st grade which really helped him settle in to public school. Our daughter is on track to be well prepared as well. We are doing pre-k with her and then sending her to public school for kindergarten, which has more to do with the timing of her late birthday then anything else. Mrs. Bramley and the other teachers give our shy daughter the attention she needs without going overboard. At the little school Mrs. Kirk prepared our daughter well. At the big school, Mrs. Bramley did a great job preparing our son and now our daughter. We trust these awesome teachers deeply.

It definitely takes discipline ...and in 6.5 months, I PASSED the exam! Working with Prof. Means was ESSENTIAL to my success. He is focused on a well-rounded approach that included all aspects of learning the language. There is ZERO way I would have passed this exam so quickly without him. The live engagement led to drastic improvement in my listening and speaking skills. In addition, I have thoroughly enjoyed every session and my confidence has grown. Even though I achieved my goal, I continue to work with Prof. Means to improve my skills. I have been taking classes there for about 6 months. It's a wonderful, happy, comfortable place to learn how to make furniture. They offer classes in the evenings and weekends and also have open studio sessions all week long. After taking the fundamentals class you can make pretty much anything you choose. They also have project specific classes. I'm taking a class where we make a 4 shelf bookcase (I won't use it for books, lol) It's beautiful! Well, will be. In our first class we learned to draw furniture and in the second we will choose the size and make our cut list. In classes 3-10 we will make the case. I'm so excited. If you have an interest in furniture making (or decorative boxes or anything made of wood) this is the place to be.
