While the outdoor space itself is a little rough-hewn, the displayed pieces are often intriguing, well-made, and beautiful. The Barn focuses on local artists and artisans, mostly from Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, and has a juried art competition during the summer months. We are often quite impressed with the quality of the works exhibited. (All of the works are available for purchase.) The staff is knowledgeable and friendly -- there is no pressure to buy -- and the Barn in fact feels more like a museum than a retail gallery (it is a non-profit), except there is no permanent collection. We always feel welcome to visit and browse without any obligation to purchase. The Barn also hosts many workshops and seminars by local artists -- perfect for a quiet summer's eve!

It was honestly hard to pick. There is lots of room in each room to really study the art despite the amount of people there. The view of the ocean as you walk in is its own beautiful painting. Outside they have beautiful gardens as well as the ocean view which had a nice breeze while we were there. There is a gift shop that had a nice sample of beautiful items. It's worth the time and effort to peruse its offerings and flip through the stacks of paintings - you never know what you'll uncover! Chris represents primarily local artists in the Maine/Mass/NH area and has a unique collection and taste. I've obtained some of my favorite paintings from his shop. No pretensions and no pressure to buy; Chris is also very happy to discuss the backgrounds and styles of the artists - and once he gets to know you, also willing to give favored pricing, discounts, or deals. I don't buy every time I visit, but Van Ward's been a favorite and de rigueur stop on our annual Maine vacations.

The people were so lovely that I was lulled into sense peaceful enjoyment...BUT, as I entered this store with my service dog, who is wearing her clearly marked service vest, the owner comes from around the corner. As she comes toward me, so does her aggressive dog. She looks at my dog and her service vest and says "she needs to wait outside, my dog is very aggressive and doesn't like other dogs...".I told that no, my dog can't "just wait outside, she needs stay with me". She looked expectantly at me, and I certainly do not want to be where I am not wanted. I said that my service dog and I can both outside, she said "yes, that would be best". I was stunned. Could I have made a big stink and told her what she was doing was against the law? Absolutely, and I will definitely do that when the person seems to truly be uneducated about the rights and responsibilities service dogs. This was definitely not that we were inconvenient to her in her store, and she wanted us out plain and simple. The owner was rude and dismissive. She is definitely not the embodiment of my experience in Olgunquit thankfully I wish this merchant education and enlightenment.

First time catching a show here and it has been a wonderful experience thus far. Staff quickly get…read moreyou into the parking lot which is divided for north bound or south bound traffic. Restrooms are outside just a short walk from main entrance. Ticket booth center of building on the outside, single window so plan accordingly. There was only one person ahead of me on arrival about 20 minutes prior to the show to pick up my ticket. Very friendly staff, quickly directed to my seat with ease. Seats are a little aged, but this is also a historic place to enjoy shows. Had clear stage with single level angled seating arrangement. Concessions had a good little variety of drinks and snacks to choose from (no cash, card only). Glad I was able to catch a show in this historic venue!
