First time catching a show here and it has been a wonderful experience thus far. Staff quickly get you into the parking lot which is divided for north bound or south bound traffic. Restrooms are outside just a short walk from main entrance. Ticket booth center of building on the outside, single window so plan accordingly. There was only one person ahead of me on arrival about 20 minutes prior to the show to pick up my ticket. Very friendly staff, quickly directed to my seat with ease. Seats are a little aged, but this is also a historic place to enjoy shows. Had clear stage with single level angled seating arrangement. Concessions had a good little variety of drinks and snacks to choose from (no cash, card only). Glad I was able to catch a show in this historic venue! read more

I wouldn't expect such a small theater to have Broadway shows, but it seems this had developed as an important theater where many famous actors have performed. Because it's an older theater, their solution to a smaller parking lot is to have everyone park in a long row, and they make you pull up so that you're bumper to bumper. If the cars in front of you hustle to the parking lot, it's fine. If they don't, you're stuck until they show up as the cars park so close you can't even get out. I don't love that, but there is nowhere else around to park nearby. The lobby is pretty small and gets very crowded before the doors open. There are snacks and souvenirs for purchase. They don't have a bag check, so I brought my own water, which was great. The theater itself is small and cozy, so most seats will have a good view. I saw Come from Away and was definitely seated closer and more affordably than I could have been in a NYC venue. The performers were all very talented - this isn't just some locals who got on stage. The warned many, many times there was no intermission, and they wouldn't let you back in if you needed to use the restroom, which seemed a bit extreme. There were a lot of other good shows in the upcoming season, so if you are from nearby or staying in the area, it's worth checking out what's on stage. I recently saw an amazing production of Little Shop of Horrors at Ogunquit Playhouse! The quality of production was amazing; such great talent, beautiful costuming, clear attention to detail. I was so happy I was able to make this performance and so glad to have the opportunity to visit the Playhouse for the first time. I was also very impressed with the staff and volunteers at the Playhouse. Where I could see definite areas of improvement would be facilities: specifically the accessibility and bathrooms. When I arrived, there were several people struggling to enter the building because of lips at doorways, heavy doors with no automatic opening, etc. and even the accessible seats were tight and difficult to get to for people with different abilities. Some staff/volunteers were around to help, but not enough. As a patron, I helped people with doors and pushing wheelchairs over the thresholds of doors. I was happy to help, but it would have been more comfortable for everyone had there been better threshold transitions and staff available to help. The restrooms were also not clearly marked, including the exits and entrances. People leaving the pavilion restrooms kept rounding the corner and running into the people waiting in line. There was also a much longer line for the women's restrooms than men's at the pavilion, and once inside I saw they were all single-stall, fully enclosed units, so I was confused why the entire set of pavilion restrooms weren't just all-gender. I know this is an old building, but it seemed like better decisions could be made to make it more efficient and accessible for patrons. read more

Recently saw Guys and Dolls here. Honestly, not a bad seat in the house. The chairs are really comfy too. When you arrive, people are outside asking if you are traveling north or south and park you accordingly to minimize traffic later. Staff is incredibly friendly and the acoustics are great in there. I love this playhouse. I have been coming here for over 20 years now. The theatre is pretty big but enough to make it cozy. They sell drinks and a few snacks. They always sell souvenirs like t shirts, cups, sweatshirts, stickers, for example. The people working here are friendly and helpful as can be. Parking here isn't bad. They ask you if you are leaving by north or south so they can direct you the best place to park. Leaving here is not so bad as other big venues like Gillette Stadium in Fox-borough MA. I came on the last night of Waitress yesterday and I enjoyed it so much! It's a wonderful local playhouse. The actors are always Great!! This one was especially Awesome!! I had tears in my eyes at the end. It was that good! I would recommend coming here if you never have experienced it. I will be back. read more

Singin' in the Rain has always been one of my favorite movies and the show at Ogunquit Playhouse really did it justice. On the evening we attended, Gene Kelly's wife introduced the show which was so unexpected and raised the the experience to the next level. The performances were spectacular: the singing, tap dancing, and physical comedy were all Broadway quality. Christian Probst, the actor that played Cosmo, really stole the show with Make 'em Laugh, although Max Clayton's Singin' in the Rain, complete with rain(!) was a close second. The playhouse itself is a delight. We got there a little early to enjoy the well manicured grounds and the outdoor bar/patio and everyone we interacted with was helpful. They also sent an email with all the details just before the show explaining the parking, the purchase of drinks/snacks must be done with a card, etc. The headshots of former performers like Tallulah Bankhead and Christopher Plummer in the entryway serve as reminders that the history of the Ogunquit Playhouse makes it even more special. They really seem to have everything down here--my only wish is that they had velvet ropes or something similar to make entering the theater itself more organized. Once the doors opened, it was just a mad dash to the people checking tickets. Otherwise, the show we saw was Broadway quality on a smaller scale which made for a perfect evening. We are so fortunate to have this gem of a venue in Maine! read more

My partner and I had the pleasure of checking out the Oguntquit Playhouse over the weekend to catch "On Your Feet," and wow, were we in for an incredible treat. We were both taken aback by how friendly and helpful the volunteers were - it really set a welcoming tone for the evening. The show was beyond impressive. The quality and caliber of the performance left us completely blown away. Last time I experienced something like this was in NYC, on Broadway. The venue itself was beautiful. It felt like walking back in time. Also, we loved ordering our drinks from the outdoor gazebos, during intermission. It added a touch of magic to our night. I was a bit worried about parking after getting an email before the performance saying it could be tricky, but even that turned out to be a non-issue. Everything was organized and efficient, which made the evening even more enjoyable. we are excited our next visit to the Oguntquit Playhouse. This place truly knows how to deliver a fantastic theater experience that goes beyond the stage. read more

My wife and I saw The Da Vinci Code here Saturday afternoon. We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. The sight lines are fantastic and there's not a bad seat in the house. The play was excellent, and the actors were tremendous. My only gripe is you can get stuck in the parking lot if the people parked around you are slow to get back to their cars. Wow, we saw "Young Frankenstein" at the "outdoor" tent at the Ogunquit Playhouse and were impressed with the venue and production. We've never sat inside, so can't compare, but it felt that they created a first rate theater experience under the tent. Lighting, sound and stage were excellent. We saw a matinee on a chilly afternoon, so I can see that it could get pretty cold for the evening performances. They leave the large doors open so there is plenty of airflow and masks are required. This was our first theater experience since the pandemic began, and we felt very comfortable. The production itself was a hoot, and even better than the movie. It was a musical, not my favorite genre, but this really worked, Talented performers, made for a fun and memorable evening. Do not hesitate!! read more

Well, this was just an incredible surprise. We were on an extended road trip all over New England when we drove through the town of Ogunquit and saw this theatre in town. Intrigued, we got to our hotel later that night and looked it up. After reading through some of the history and feeling especially spontaneous, we decided to go for it and bough tickets to "Beautiful: The Carol King Story" for the following night. We rolled in with not much expectation. The theatre itself is a little old and dated, which I think is part of the charm. As one of the OG summer stock theatres that remains, you know they are legit when you see photos of Betty White and dozens of other old school stars that have graced the stage. We parked in the lot (just a field where you park bumper to bumper and then have to wait for everyone to clear out after the show), found our seats. and were pleased at the theater itself. It's small enough to feel intimate and special but large enough that you're really part of a bigger-feel in the show. The show itself blew us away. The talent was top notch, and we discovered that some of the cast had played their roles on Broadway and were summering here in Maine. We're talking top talent at a fraction of the Broadway price, and I can't point to any member of the cast as a weak or less-than. Indeed, an incredible surprise. We loved the show, the whole experience was a delightful and impromptu part of our trip. read more

Left York on the new Shorts Sand Road to attend Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville. What a joy... this theater has gone out of there way during Covid by installing a huge outdoor tent to bring back live theater to Southern Maine! We had seats three from the back row and then someone told us we could move forward as it was not a sold out show. I think people are a little hesitant about indoor seating during this period of time and now we have to wear masks again because some won't get the vaccine. The view was good and the sound of the music was just great... including all the great music of Jimmy Buffett. Sometimes the words were a little muffled all in all it was a great evening. They had two areas for purchasing cocktails, an area for souvenirs and an area for taking selfies. Looking forward to next year when we can get back into this wonderful historical theater in Ogunquit Maine! read more

What a great place to see a show! We saw "Singing in the Rain" on a Saturday night and it was the last performance of the show. The crowd was really into it. This theatre has so much charm and history and was worth the visit. It's a must see in Ogunquit! It was a great show with Broadway talented actors and actresses. This was not a Summer stock show with students acting. We had seats Eight rows from the stage and we could see first hand how talented and happy these performers were. Many of the staff at the playhouse were volunteers and they were all friendly and helpful. You will be a bit confused on the parking situation but trust me it worked out fine. And it's free too! The price for the show was reasonable considering the quality of the show. We can't wait to go back and see another show. I wish they gave tours of the playhouse because I would go in a second. Woot, woot ... my 600th review and it is for this lovely playhouse. I cannot believe that I have been coming to Ogunquit for over 25 years and have never been able to coordinate a visit here. Something always got in my way - mostly my kids, who are now no longer kids and need all my attention. I finally got to see my first show here and it was "Kinky Boots". It was epic. My youngest, a budding musical theater major, and I were in the last row dead center and there was great seats. I gotta say, it looks like all the seats are great there so I think we would have been fine anywhere. These are not travelling shows but produced "in house" and the quality is amazing - somebody in another review used the word "gem" and it is no exaggeration. I cannot wait to see my next show! read more

Other than particularly small seats and space between rows I absolutely love this theater and have since I moved to Maine almost 25 years ago. Sometimes season-ticket holder, mostly just two or three shows a year whatever strikes me, I'm regularly blown away by the immense talent that comes here from New York to act and sing and dance in these shows. I've never seen a bad show here. The first time I saw "Beautiful, the Carole King story", I believe it was here many years ago and was really pleasantly surprised then, so excited to come back for it, and it was better than ever. There was not a weak voice in the bunch! I just love the story of these two couples who were songwriters and how the show highlights so many of those songs sung by other popular groups and singers from that era written by them. So, they spent $300,000 to build a crappier version of being inside. They call it an enclosed tent, but considering that they put "exit" signs above the exits, how exactly is it that we are still "outside?" They should have invested the money in to their real building instead adding more door and/or windows for fresh air and/or adding a hospital grade heppa air filter system. They also make everyone sit in groups of 2, even if you came with members of your own household. They also want you to wear a mask to you seat, even if you are vaccinated, even with Maine having the highest vaccination rate in the country, and even with Maine have no standing mask laws. It would be helpful if they would add a screen for patrons in the cheap seats to be able to see what is happening on stage more clearly. It appears they are filming the performance anyway, so why not put it on a CC TV? read more

I have been enjoying shows at Ogunquit Playhouse for a dozen years and was very much looking forward to this one, but they have seriously slipped in "Mr. Holland's Opus". The music was totally forgettable, and the story line was quite different from the movie, with some scenes that made no sense. Moreover, while I have no problem with whatever color Mr. Holland is, the box-checking for all the other currently required categories was quite overdone. The leads were clearly talented, but my advice is to skip this show and to check with friends before buying tickets to another show here. (I edited this review to add a star due to the quality of past shows but I'm now very concerned about what future shows will be like.) read more

I have seen two shows here in the last two years and both performances were fantastic. The most recent show that I saw with my fiancé was the Nutty Professor and I was amazed at the talent and production. We had great seats but I think the room would provide a great view of the stage from any seat. There is a nice bar and you can take drinks into the show. There is also an outdoor bar for intermission. The seats were fairly comfortable and they have the parking figured out pretty well. I highly recommend! read more

We try to catch a show at the Ogunquit Playhouse when we visit our friends each year in September. This trip we had the pleasure of seeing Jersey Boys. From the time we arrived until we left, the staff at the Ogunquit were so friendly and accommodating. To quote Frankie Valli. "Oh-What a Night" we had! It was an incredibly uplifting and interesting story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The show moved right along. We wanted to get up and dance in the aisle. Everyone, especially the Baby Boomers, were really into the show. We all were reliving our youth with the music and the story. I learned some things I never knew. The voices were so on point. Also, I had the privilege of seeing Frank Valli and the Four Seasons in Baltimore at the Club Venus in the 1960's. I liked them then and I still like them today. It was a great show. read more

Their new process for emailing subscriber tickets a week before did not work for me. Two days before the show and I still have not received my tickets. I emailed days ago with no response then called and waited quite a bit for an answer to be told they send them as they should so it must be my email. I had purchased an extra ticket for the show outside of the subscription and immediately received an emailed ticket no problem, and I received the receipts to my email and the visitor rules etc without issue. Their solution is for me to always come an hour before the show to pick up tickets in person. I will not be renewing this subscription. read more

Great playhouse with a LOT of history that retains the original charm! Sure, it's a bit dated, but that's part of the charm. So cool to be able to see my friend's play here. Love the "social hour" type feel before the show and during intermission, and that you can bring your drinks into the theater so you don't feel like you have to down it like you do at some venues. This was our first time at the playhouse and we loved the amazing performance of Bullets Over Broadway! We are used to Broadway shows so the sound isn't as powerful. Would have been nice to have sound coming from the sides/back as well. The seating is incredibly tight, so we'll never get seats not on the isle if we go there again. It would have been impossible to use the bathroom during the show without causing a huge disturbance. Other than that, it was a sweet playhouse. read more
