Shout out to the lovely African-American woman working in the Deli! I have grown up with Hy-Vee my entire life and I now live in Denver. Hy-Vee has ALWAYS stood up above and beyond (in Keokuk you got a number on your cart and everyone who wanted it got drive up trunk service... very nice especially in the bitter Iowa cold) Gal in the Deli at Columbia not only came out to greet me and my family, but she asked what we were looking for and she came out to look for what we wanted. Kings Hawaiian rolls go quickly around Xmas, so we weren't really surprised to see the shelf was empty! I don't know what her name was, but she made it her priority to find what we wanted in the Deli freezer. Thank you for making my Xmas visit back home a memorable one, unknown name lady! Two stars is being nice. What a very unorganized store. Oh wait, it is organized, to them but not when there are for example eggs located in separate places instead of all together (separate ends of the store). The same with oils, crackers, and a wide assortment of other items. Just an awful first experience when I cannot locate what I want. I spent a good hour and half there walking around. Ask for assistance, yes I did, and they were not sure either. I don't think I will be back. The only good thing about it was the nice barista at the coffee bar who works the morning shift and gets off at 1pm. She was very nice and helpful. It is quick and good food. For being grocery store food it is pretty delicious. The sushi they have has big discounts throughout the week and is very fresh tasting. The Chinese section as a whole is pretty good as well as the pizza. It is only takeout for the most part although I think they have a small dining area that is normally not in use. read more

Hy-Vee, please come to STL. We stopped by for some party supplies and I was totally blown away. I'm a strange one, when visiting another city, I enjoy checking out the local grocery scene and Hy-Vee has me wishing they would come to STL. Honestly there was not a department that did not impress me. I was totally blown away by the excellent selections in their butcher cases. They are all about being local - they proudly label their pork being from the Midwest. The produce department had the most extensive variety of pre-cut vegetables and fruits that I have even seen. Sometimes we just need those ShortCuts in life. Another area that blew my mind was the wine and spirits. Most grocery stores in STL offer me a aisle or two of booze. Hy-Vee, offered me an entire room. It was like a mini liquor store within a grocery store. All I can say is, Cheers and bottoms up. If you're in a hurry or just too lazy to cook, Hy-Vee has you covered with their prepared foods. For those of you familiar with the prepared foods at Whole Foods, this variety at Hy-Vee puts WF to shame. In closing, again I will wish for a Hy-Vee in STL. I wish they would have came and taken over some of the Shop & Save stores when they left. Until my next trip to Columbia, I'll just have to continue wishing. We ordered a cake from the conley road Hy-vee and it was not what we ordered as far as, the frosting was not butter cream nor were the flowers they were not edible and when I called them all The manager did was send our Call back to the bakery which the person said sorry and a giant pause and a curt good bye. All of the cakes prior to this have been great but I will definitely look somewhere else from here on out even if I have to pay more than 27 dollars for it. I went in to the store to get a rotisserie chicken. They had some cooking. I asked how long it would be? I'm pretty sure the guy said 20 but the girl told me 10. I have been here over an hour am still no rotisserie chicken. I walked around the store for awhile. now I'm standing here waiting while they have friends stop and talk, and joke and laugh. another customer had to holler at them to get their attention for some food for her and her daughter. read more

I was over the moon excited to discover Hy-Vee. They have an organic produce, dairy, and dry goods section. I didn't have to hunt through every shelf looking for organic items. They are nicely grouped together. This was a significant time saver. A midwestern native, I've spent the last few years on the west coast where natural and organic product market is more established. I feared that I'd have to order most of my organic and gluten free items online when I moved back. Thanks to Hy-Vee, my online order list is significantly shorter. My primary feedback was that I wish there were more certified organic meats. I only found chicken during my visit. read more

I love this place. Lately I've been coming here to do my grocery shopping, eat, and study. The cafe area provides free wifi and free refills on soda fountain drinks and coffee (beat that Starchucks!). The seats are comfortable and the staff is friendly. For example, today, as I write this review in Hy-Vee, the hostess, Joanna, has offered to refill my coffee twice now. Again what other coffee shop will offer that? There are even a plethora of electrical sockets unlike a place left unmentioned in the down town area. The best part about studying here is that if you get the urge for some study snacks, you don't even have to leave the store! Just get up, buy some snacks, and resume studying. I recommend the fresh baked donuts or nuts from the bulk section. The salad buffet here is pretty standard, but with more meat choices. I mean where else can you garnish your salad with roast beef AND imitation crab meat? Need bacon? No problem. Deviled eggs are on the other side. Oh and speaking of the other side, there is plenty of fresh fruits and different types of dessert options. The deli is also pretty standard when it comes to delis. However, every foot long is $5. If you ask nicely you can get various types of meats and cheese put on for the same price. And instead of spending $2 for the "grab bag" of chips and a small soda, spend $3 and get a two liter and big bag of chips or something healthier. Included in this part are their hot entries such as chicken strips, various fried and baked meats, and cold and hot salads. The Chinese food here is also pretty incredible. Since moving from Chicago, the gf and I have been quite disappointed with the Chinese selection here but we've come back to Hy-Vee Chinese more than once. There isn't much of a selection but the (imitation) crab rangoons here are (very tasty). I'd recommend it to everyone. They even have pizza here. Sure it isn't Shakes or GDs but at $0.99 a slice made fresh daily it is a great deal. Or grab a take 'n bake for $5 and make it a home meal with the signi other. So there you have it. An all-in-one place that is quickly gaining the attention of many other students for good reason. read more

I wish there was a way to give 10 stars to the bakery. Cat/Kat NAILED IT!! I have had bad experiences all over the country with bakeries and specialty cake shops. When I ordered the cake Cat/Kat (sorry I'm not sure which, I am not trying to offend anyone) asked me if I wanted writing on the cake and which design I liked. Not to be rude but this was an adult,co-ed baby shower and these cakes looked so juvenile. I told her about the invitation and she suggested I email it to the store. She would then look it over and do her best. She asked me again about writing on the cake, I said "I don't care, make it look good." It was incredible! I cannot believe how well it turned out. Pretty decent grocery store good ready food section. Very good customer service. The meat department is OK not the best little overpriced. If you stick to the sales you will get a pretty good deal for most of the store. One major complaint is don't put the fish department next to the bakery nobody wants to smell fish when they're trying to pick out a dessert. read more

While I love the selection and generally nice workers, I shop here regularly and every visit find at least one of the products I am looking for expired but still on the shelf. They are always very nice and take it down when I tell them but it has happened too often. They definitely need to get their act together. Otherwise, the selection quality and service are the best I have found in CoMO. read more

August 13, 2029 was not a great day w/ the delivery of my order. I had a large order totaling over 200$+ w/ the thought that I wouldn't need to hit the store for a couple weeks or so. The day began w/ door dash bringing me 1/3 of what I ordered. Meanwhile, the Conley street store did call me and apologized for the mix up. They gave me a couple options, one of which I chose to just go and pick it up. I arrived at the store and the manager was very apologetic and even offered to carry out my bag to my car. I happily declined and went home. Upon going thru the bag in my kitchen I realized I still was missing about a quarter of my order. So I call the store and spoke w the manager. Again, he was very apologetic and also explained a few other orders were mixed up w other customers. He also explained he was training a couple of new hires and well, his day was just the worst! He continued to look up my order and we went thru it together and he gave me 3 options, one of which was bringing the remainder of my items at some point the very day. I was very good w that option. A couple hours later the delivery person brought the remainder and also handed me a gift card for the mix up. My heart melted! What a kind, generous, and very thoughtful thing for the manager to do for a customer. Especially, when his day was not so great either . Now I don't know how this feedback will work BUT the manager of the Conley store deserves huge props for going the extra mile!! I will always be a Hy-Vee customer because I learned they really do care about their customers and that's a rare thing in 2020. Thank you!! read more

Let's be honest: I DO NOT LIKE HYVEE. Except this one. I find their produce and meat to be OLD and nasty. I have taken back both on multiple occasions from multiple locations from KCMO to COMO. EWW. I much prefer Schnucks. But THIS HYVEE is actually nice. I have not purchased meat from this store--again, I do NOT trust meat or produce from them, but I do like the rest of the store. This is the best grocery store I have ever been to. The store is extremely clean. The staff is friendly, polite, and helpful. The produce is clean and free--you can even buy pre-sliced produce! Trust me, I would NEVER eat kiwi if it weren't for Hyvee. The coolest thing is that there are ALWAYS free samples--from exotic fruits, to deserts, to beverages. It's a great place to dine out as well. You have your pick of traditional American cuisine, pizza, sushi, sub sandwiches, salad bar and Chinese stir fry. And their organic food section is fantastic. Truly appalling. The Hy-Vee on Conley has been looking for employees for months now, I know this because I'm a regular shopper, and valued customer. However, not so valued as it seems. Just moments ago I was informed over the phone that I was not well liked as a person. I applied at Hy-Vee a while back because they were looking for employees, and my application was accepted and I was scheduled for an interview. I was there about 20 minutes early and made sure I was on time, however I was kept waiting past my interview time, until HR finally came down to get me. Still I was respectful. During the interview I told the HR manager that I'm Jewish and a Veteran, I also answered any questions she had, and ask question for her at the end. I was always polite, saying please and thank you. I shook her hand when I left, and asked for her card. A few weeks later I hear nothing back. A few months later, they are still looking for employees, so I decide to give it another shot, thinking that perhaps I wasn't qualified for the position. The second time, I was early again, the HR manager was late again, and didn't even know he had an interview with me, he leads me too the HR room, and doesn't conduct an interview at all. After my non-interview, I am dumbfounded at the rudeness of the situation. It is now December, and Hy-Vee are still looking for talent. I called them today, and was informed that I wasn't hired because I wasn't liked as a person. Ridiculous. I have contacted corporate, and filed an EO complaint. If Hy-Vee continues to discriminate against potential talent, they will never find the Employees they seek. Hy-Vee is not an exclusive club, this isn't High-School, the customers/employees out there are real people, with real lives, and a family to take care of. The disrespect, and discrimination to me is very appalling. You have lost a valued customer, and I advise anyone who is looking for work, that this is not the place to work for. If they treat their interviewees this way, then I can imagine that their employees are treated much worse. read more

The store and selection is actually pretty good, but the managment not so much. Everytime I go an item rings up incorrectly or sale prices don't come up. When this occurs a manager is called, but they don't seem to really care. I don't like having to constantly watch my bill to make sure things ring up correctly. read more

When I lived in Columbia as a student (graduated in 2015), this was pretty much my go-to place for grocery shopping and tasty Chinese food. Their Chinese food is seriously amazing, on par with Panda Express, and for a decent price tag. The grocery store itself also has a large liquor section with a huge selection of wines, spirits, and beer, so that is worth checking out as well. read more

I have generally had warm service at HyVee, but this spring I had a really bad experience with their pharmacy. The pharmacy dispensed the wrong concentration of drug to my infant daughter. We didn't discover this until after she had taken her first dose of medicine, which was twice the prescribed amount. You can imagine how scary that was! After a number of phone calls to our pediatrician and some anxious watching and waiting to make sure she didn't have a reaction, we were relieved that the only obvious result was some serious diaper rash (like, bleeding open sores). The pharmacy apologized (although interestingly, the actual pharmacist responsible for the error never talked to us herself) and reimbursed my co-pay, but the general attitude was just kind of underwhelming. They kind of acted like "well, glad she wasn't hurt" and didn't seem to recognize that she was hurt, because she was a sick baby who now was also writhing in pain from a bleeding bottom every time she was changed, and besides that we all had to worry so much over her well-being. Anyway, we were able to negotiate to get the diapers and cream we bought reimbursed, but I moved all my prescriptions to another pharmacy even though I have to drive out of my way for it. Everyone makes mistakes, but pharmacy mistakes can be life threatening, and I want a pharmacy who takes that responsibility as seriously as I would. I just don't believe that this pharmacy does. read more

I decided to eat at Hyvee with my two young children. The lady who worked at the Chinese food station took my order which was a grand buffet and two slices of pizza. My children are young so I figured that they would only eat pizza anyway. The server at the Chinese station passed my ticket to the cashier which proceeded to ring me up. I paid, got food, and sat down. About ten minutes into eating a manager came over to my table in front of everyone who was eating and told me that I asked for a child's buffet and that I need to pay for it. Very embarrassed I said, that was not what I ordered but you can charge me for the difference. He said that he heard me order that and I told him that's not what I said. I told him that he could take my card and charge me for the difference because I was sitting at the table with two small children and one of them has special needs. He told me that he would not take my card and that I needed to come to the counter and pay for it. I gathered my two young children and walked to the counter while everyone watched. Before I paid the difference I asked him to ask the Chinese server what I ordered. She told him EXACTLY what I said and ordered. He then apologized a couple of times and basically gave me permission to finish eating. This was not ok and very embarrassing for me. I work in the community with hundreds of people and luckily/hopefully nobody who works with me witnessed this. This is a poor example of customer service. The manager that I had to deal with would rather EMBARASS and DISGRACE a costumer for TWO DOLLARS without finding out the real story. The cashier that took my money should have noticed that I was an ADULT. I would like to thank the Chinese food server for telling the truth. In my opinion, this is unacceptable and I will let as many people know as possible what happened to me. read more
