Ask about the daily specials - they often have some really good deals. I had one of the specialty burgers - it was fantastic.

My wife and I came in tonight to give it a try since the change in concept for this building…read more Positives: The food was delicious, I had the chopped salad, my wife had the Cobb salad with shrimp and we got some riblets. Negatives: Almost everything else. I hope the owner sees this and is able to regain control of the restaurant before the staff completely ruins their investment. We arrived around 7:30 on a Monday night. We came in to a sign that said Please Wait to be Seated. We stood at the entrance for a bit, but the one employee we did see avoided eye contact and didn't acknowledge us. We did see someone in the bar area, so we decided to come in and sit at the bar. Some ambiance notes: No music was playing so all conversations and noises were intrusive into our dining experience . The multiple tvs were tuned to mostly regular tv shows with no captions. One tv was playing the bachelorette at a volume that made it so we heard every s and p that was said and about nothing else. No sports were on. The lights were as bright as a retail store. I told my wife it felt like we were eating in a Target. The worst part by far was the table of servers that were sitting in uniform drinking. On duty staff was hanging out at that table as well. Conversations revolved around getting drunk. How much money they didn't make, what guests were annoying, etc. The manager (I think off duty), was sitting at the bar involved in a drama filled FaceTime session with the volume up. Now I know all about her childcare issues. She also was bad mouthing the restaurant to her friend. Service was impacted by the amount of time the bartender spent interacting with the employee table. Quick note, one of the servers that was drinking was messing around with an order on the Toast POS handheld and the bartender was yelling across the room to cut it out and exit out of the order he had pulled up. We had almost no interaction from the bartender. She asked if we needed boxes while we were still in the middle of eating our meal. When we were ready to go it took some effort to get our check, because she was hanging out at the employee table. The whole experience made it likely that we won't return, although we would consider getting food to go. What really needs to happen is a culture change with your staff before it's too late, probably involving some personnel changes including the manager. Right now the foxes are running the hen house. If things don't change soon, I would set the over/under for going out of business at 6 months.

Came in on a weeknight with coworkers and received good service and fantastic food. Nice drink menu (I enjoyed their take on the old fashioned) with cocktails and a nice craft beer selection. Everyone loved their food, from the barley soup to the ravioli, burger, Brussels salad, and the salmon I got. Hidden gem perhaps was their incredible dessert selection. The cherry tart was a pleasant surprise and the salted caramel chocolate cake will def fix a choc craving. Would gladly come back.

Pork Belly app: thick cut pork belly in lettuce cups, topped with sweet thai glaze, pickled carrots, onions, celery, mint, thai basil, cilantro, scallions and crushed peanuts. A tad sweet for me but overall this was a great app. Slice of Sourdough: delish. Chicken Japchae: since my mom has celiac disease, we were very excited to see this on their menu - dining out with her can be a challenge. Especially at a place specializing in breads! The only unfortunate part about this dish is (I think) they forgot they already salted the chicken and salted it again...and then again. I'm not one to say something is too salty, I love my sodium but this was mouth-puckering salty. Inedible, actually, but the noodle dish itself was SO GOOD that she set the chicken aside and ate the entree. NY Strip Steak: perfectly med-rare, served with a garlic-rosemary potato pavé (like a potato casserole of sorts), roasted broccolini and a house steak sauce that was similar to a demi glaze. Not a bite left - no leftovers with this one. I ate the whole dang thing. Myself. And I have zero regrets. Crème Brûlée: I also couldn't leave without ordering a crème brûlée because there are some really bad ones out there. This did not disappoint. I also took home a Dubai Chocolate tort, Raspberry Crumble and a Flourless Chocolate cake. ZERO regrets but if you love Dubai chocolate then you know there are some discusting renditions of this in the market. However, the Dubai chocolate tort at Provisions Lot F is . I can't even describe how delicious this was and is worth the drive to Ames just for this dessert. If you're north of DSM for a game or whatever, I highly recommend Provisions! I'm already scheming a way to get back there...soon!

Train wreck-in every way. We flew into Des Moines from AZ and a friend suggested this restaurant…read more We arrived at 8pm for our 8:15pm reservation. There were two other tables in the whole restaurant so needless to say it was quiet. Our server was sweet but obviously not trained on efficient and fast service but was probably encouraged to run like a bunny when things go sideways. We ordered two glasses of wine and an old fashioned. Figured I just got off of a plane so why not get the evening going with some bourbon and have a Plan B with the glass of wine when I am ready. Two glasses of wine were delivered but no old fashioned. Who does this? Anyhow, old fashioned came out next. We ordered a cup of soup and a small salad to start with and then ordered a burger, medium, with fries and the pasta bolognese. The soup and salad came out but there was a long stretch of time before entrees came out. When they finally arrived the burger was very rare inside so my wife let the server know and she apologized and scurried off. I tried to wait but it was getting cold so I slowly nibbled. After 20 minutes, I flagged down our server and asked if the burger was coming out and she said "oh, do you want another one"? It was now 9pm and they were closing but we were not leaving until we enjoyed a medium burger. When the new burger came out, she said the "owner made it himself. We cut it in half to check the temperature it was still pink. How can an owner of a restaurant not know how to make a medium-medium well burger? And why didn't he walk out and deliver it himself and apologize? Not a word! My dish was finished and plate was gone while my wife finally had her burger. We had planned to eat together that was not going to happen tonite. She ate half and we took the rest of it to go. With wine, an old fashioned and the worst dinner experience, we spent $174 with tip. Huge mistake. Here is my tip: train your servers on how to take care of customers. To the cooks, invest in a thermometer if you can't tell when a burger is medium. To the owner, step out and make sure your customers are happy and enjoying your food.

Gayle and I stopped in today after reading about it within some "48 hours in Ames" article. I ordered a brisket grilled cheese sandwich, while Gayle chose a similar one with blackberry flavoring. We split a can of Guinness off the convenience store fridge, and then sat outside for our street and car wash view. We had nice shade on a not too hot day and took the opportunity to hang out bit after we finished our meal. This was a tasty and pleasant experience of good value overall.

Wow, it is a lot more than a quick breakfast at a gas station! The kitchen was complete and had a full menu offered up. It was also a commercial bakery... multiple bakers working on cinnamon rolls that looked divine! I had a breakfast quesadilla. It had real flavor in it with candied jalapeños. It was a lot but judging from all the plates I saw come out of the kitchen everything there was solid in serving size. The chai latte was good too. And the folks were nice. They definitely have loyal fans locally, folks were ordering for tailgates!
