We arrived to check in to our room at 5:30p and were told that all of the rooms were dirty due to a concert. There were several people already waiting in the lobby for their rooms. A lady came up at that moment and entered all the rooms that had been cleaned. We were given one of those rooms. When we went to our room the bed was made nicely. There was only 1 large towel and 2 hand towels. There was no soap the wash your hands at the sink I had to use body wash from the shower. There were stains on the carpet and on the bathroom wall. The bathroom looked old and beaten up. We are Hyatt members and this is by far the worst Hyatt we have ever stayed in. read more

We get to our room and there is a sock inside of a side table that did not belong to my family & a towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door. Later I see pieces of bar soap left in the shower & the area around the bottom of the toilet is dirty. That night my almost 2 year old walked up to me holding a white pill asking "What's this?" We went to the pool the next morning & there were no towels. I went to the front desk, she went to look for some & came back saying someone would bring me some. They did...two hours later and only like 4 of them. There was still only 2 remaining later that evening - so they still hadn't restocked the towels. But it was warm & the second day it did get cleaned, but still no towels. I also had to get my key cards reactivated twice. When we reported the things we had found wrong in our room the only thing we asked for in return was a late checkout & two different people couldn't give us an answer as to whether they could do that or not & that they needed to ask someone else. No one ever got back to us about it. Will not be staying here again. read more

We stayed here for one night because I had a free night I needed to use or lose it and the pool at the Hyatt Regency nearby was under construction so we chose here for the pool. However, the pool was not as nice as the pictures and we ended up not using it. We checked in late night and it was pretty smooth. I liked that you get 2 bottles of water from the lobby included. We got an accessible room (not sure why) and the room itself was not in good shape. The privacy lock was off the wall like someone tried to break in and it never worked during our whole stay. The furniture was all chipped and dated. The lighting was very white and the shower toiletries were all in pumps on the wall. The TV, however, was large and had all the channels. The breakfast the next morning was just ok and the warm donut holes were a nice touch. The location was great for the SEC baseball tournament in Hoover, but otherwise, this is a bit outside of downtown Birmingham. Good be a great property with some updates. read more

The place should not be allowed to be called a Hyatt and we told the manager as much. Useless, oblivious, and downright uncaring staff and management. Shoddy dingy old rooms and common areas. I came free to join in with my friend who I call my baby brother to surprise his wife with a surprise birthday party. He used a back room to have a party. I walked in and noticed the setting was very nice. The buffet was set on the from with seating in the middle and DJ was in the back. We had a ball. After we ate the buffet was moved and we had ample space to dance. There was a cash bar right outside the room with bathrooms close by as well. There was a service man that worked the room that, in my opinion, was the best that I have ever seen. He kept the tables cleaned off while joining in on the fun. Not impressed Don't get me wrong. I've stayed in worse than the Hyatt but expected less. Unfortunately I would describe as Very dirty. They sweep the floor, but sweep everything into a corner and don't actually pick up what in the corner. I stayed in a king suite. While it was roomie, the bathroom light was not bright enough for me to see what I was doing to put make up on. In fact, the room lights are not very bright at all. I think that's intentional so you can't see how gross and dirty the place is. Thankfully the "kitchen" had a mirror so I could do my makeup in decent lighting. I didn't use the coffee maker in the room as it was pretty gross and old so I doubt it gets properly cleaned. The fridge had mold in it but so did the shower. I checked in at like 3:30 and ended up in 1 of the only 2 rooms on the floor that wasn't being cleaned. An accessible room I didn't need. But someone else in my group checked in at 6:30 and their room wasn't even ready. So much for 3:00 check in. That's probably because the cleaning crew was still cleaning the rooms on my floor. They were playing music loudly from their cart in the hallway and yelling across the floor to each other. That wasn't at all annoying. Well is was less annoying than the party someone on my floor was having. Loud talking from lots of people and doors opening and closing. People up and Ken the halls talking. Guess I didn't really need sleep anyways. The micro towels barely fit around me. And I'm not a big woman. Room only came with 3 so I went to the front desk to get another. Towel on left where what came in my room Right was what front desk gave me Went down to breakfast on my first morning. First of all it's breakfast so why does the sign say no pajamas? If you're on vacation why can't you eat breakfast in your pajamas. So dumb. The staff left the kitchen door open so you can see if they have an actual kitchen, but they do not use it for breakfast as everything looks like it's pre-cooked reheated food. I will say I appreciate the actual hard boiled eggs as they are still in the shell so I know they're not coated in a chemical. The fruit options were different as I don't think I've seen dragon fruit at any other hotel breakfast so that was awesome. They literally ran out of coffee every morning within the first hour of breakfast being served. Doesn't seem well planned. Stayed 4 nights before housekeeping even came to my room to clean it. We stay at Hyatts frequently, and this one was completely unkempt!!!! Don't waste your time here!!! The room was a MESS! The sheets were wrinkled and looked unwashed, as if the bed had just been made from being used by a previous occupant. The toilet didn't flush. The main light wouldn't work. There was a bug smashed onto the toilet paper roll. The peep hole cover was broken. Needless to say, we walked in, put our stuff down, looked around, and then walked OUT!!! And we should have gotten the hint when we first walked in because the lobby and hall carpets are filthy and haven't been vacuumed in forever. read more

This Hyatt Place will be my go to whenever I visit Birmingham, Alabama. Clean, spacious, modern rooms. The room also was like a suite since it had a separate living room for company. Also a kitchenette with a sink mini fridge, small table etc. The staff was very helpful and friendly and made you feel welcomed. The hotel offers a hot breakfast, also they have a small bar if you want to order drinks and hang out in the lobby. The hotel also has many food venues nearby also a mall across the street so you don't have to drive to eat or shop. read more

I would give it less if I could. Came in for reunion. Brought bags in, changed and didn't come back till 2:30 am. Got in bed, and the sheets were so worn they were pilling like little tiny sweater balls with dark spots. Almost looked like bugs. The pilling made my skin crawl, it was disgusting. Tried to sleep, but couldn't as it felt so nasty. Went down to office at 3:45 to complain, but get a sheet to cover it up. The episode caused major anxiety and struggled to fall asleep. Next day went to speaker with manager, but she was off. Explained what happen and they said housekeeping manager would check on it. She never did. Came back that night to find the beds weren't even made up, they never even came to room. It would have been beautiful room with decor and all, but carpet stains, they hadn't vacuumed as stuff on carpet, a pill on floor in bathroom. Here are the positives: easy to find, location is pretty good. Close proximity to some retail shops and restaurants. The ladies at the front desk were nice and quick to get us checked in. We got a room with double beds and the room was quit spacious. The beds are a tad uncomfortable and the pillows are horrendous. You may as well sleep straight on the mattress. Bring your own pillow. Definitely need more plug in spots for phones etc... The whole place needs a good deep clean, especially the carpets outside the rooms. The air conditioner fan unit was loud and obnoxious. (Maybe that was just our room) The free breakfast was very small. Very gray oatmeal, sausage links, biscuits and gravy and cereal. (Gravy and biscuits didn't taste terrible) they had coffee and milk and some weird red juice that was leaking on the counter. It wasn't the worst hotel I've stayed at, just needs a good cleaning, some maintenance and maybe revamp the breakfast a little. read more

about 10:30 PM on a Friday night to check in to the hotel was checked into a room. The first room we enter the toilet was full of poop and a lot of mold in the bathrooms. We were told it was no more rooms I wasn't settl for that so I kept making a big deal about it because that means someone needs to clean the complete bathroom plus mold was in the room really bad so she gave us two different rooms. Give us the keys to the rooms first one people personal things were still in the room and that room was dirty then we got into another room. I hate leaving bad reviews First, the check in process was bad. I'm here for work and my company blocked some rooms and the reservation process is different. I got bounced around from a few people that would not take my reservation, then one guy told me the other girl just didn't want to do it and was complaining about it. After a few times on hold I got him again. He asked if I could call back in 30 minutes and I said no. He asked my name and company and said it was done. I had a feeling it wasn't and I was correct. Same for 2 or more other co workers. Second thing, I noticed my room didn't have soap. I asked and they told me they don't have any soap. That would have been great to know before hand maybe at check in and I could have gotten some while I was out, but I don't have a car hear and can't shower before my meeting and after flying all day. I prefer to shower after flying and not having to arrange for my own soap. Third I woke up and my room was 74 degrees which is about6/7 degrees more than my preference and too hot for me to sleep comfortably so at 1am I had to change rooms to one with a working ac and lost the king bed. Not a big deal about a king but who doesn't prefer one when available. My other room also had a leaky toilet and I didn't realize it until my sock was wet after being in the room for an hour and it obviously wasn't from the shower I didn't take. She offered me some extra shampoo which I can appreciate I guess as making the best with what you got but still. The room itself is nice. The women who did the check in handled it well for the mishap and was friendly and the guy who switched my room was also good. The area seems close to a lot. I don't expect the breakfast to be too notch but I'm hoping it isn't depressing. The breakfast was surprisingly decent. read more

I had a pleasant stay at this Hyatt Place. The location is great, lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. The hotel itself was clean, the room was comfortable, and check in/check out was a breeze. Breakfast was served each morning and included hot items (eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, oatmeal), fruit, muffins, coffee, tea, cereal, and toast/bagels. There were only a couple of negatives I encountered during my stay. I misplaced my room key at one point and went to the front desk to get another. The front desk employee never asked for verification regarding who I was, no ID check, no name verification, nothing. She only asked what room I needed the key for. In my opinion this is a major security issue that should be addressed. Anyone could enter the hotel, claim to have lost a key, and gain access to anyone's room. The next issue was with the World Of Hyatt app. If you're a member you're supposed to be able to scan your phone in place of your key card and be able to enter your room or enter the hotel itself if the door is locked... perfect if you lose your key card. I was told that feature doesn't work for this location which was a slight inconvenience. All in all I'd stay here again in the future if I'm in the area. read more

The price was reasonable for a week stay. Upon arrival, building and grounds outside the building was in a disarray and dirty. However, we figured they had a good excuse considering they were renovating the building. The hallways were dark and old, but the rooms were updated and appeared to have been renovated. Upon checking the sheets , I observed 2 long blond strands of hair . My hair is black and curly. The sheets appeared to be clean minus the blond hair. I didn't see any other visible signs of soiling, however, I did go to the front desk and request new sheets. I told the front desk why I needed new sheets . She apologized, and asked me what size that I needed, yet, she still gave me the wrong size. I struggled to make the sheet fit, finally I got the bed remade. The bed was comfortable and the shower was adequate. The room amenities were okay, except the refrigerator didn't fit the spot carved out for it , so it was placed on top of kitchen counter. The first day we slept in, so we asked the maid if she could come back to us at a later time. However, I think she took that as never come back again. Unfortunately, we received no cleaning service for our entire stay ( 5 days). We thought because of COVID-19, maybe they were only cleaning every other day. So, on the 3rd day of no cleaning service, I called and spoke with a male at the front desk. I asked politely if we could have the room cleaned , he sounded a little perturbed, but stated he would notify the cleaning staff. We returned at 4 pm , the room still had not been cleaned. We did see a staff member in the hallway mopping, so we though maybe they were doing afternoon cleaning. Still, by 6p.m. no one showed up to clean our room. We called the front desk and was told the cleaning staff was done for the day!!! Wow, I told her I called this morning to have them clean. She apologized , stated her shift had just started, but she offered us a garbage bag and some more linen. So, After a long day of taking care of business, I now had to clean my own room. I proceeded to clean my own room, Check out my pics of all my complaints. Sorry I emptied both trash bags before pics. We were going to stay an additional couple of days because we hadn't wrapped up our business. However, due to the very poor cleaning service, we chose to check out in the morning and book at another hotel. I booked three night stay at the facility. First night I determined I made a horrific choice. The toilet stopped up, conditioner was scratched off the bottle and shower get was written on the bottle and the bed was the worse I've ever slept in. Man at desk asks if I tried the reset. Of course, I say. Rather than give me a new dryer and work on it later, he proceeds to test the reset in a lobby outlet. It did not work. No S**t. Wifi worked fine when we checked in. did not work in the morning. I asked . "when the weather is bad, it doesn't work" Me-the sun is shining" Oh last night. ME- it worked last night" Oh, that is what they tell me to say. REally? No USB ports and this place has an award in the breakfast area for a great remodel...maybe of the breakfast area??? I am not picky due to being in the military but the rooms are piss poor. Smell horrible! My family and I got stuck in the elevator with our luggage. We got stuck on the 6th floor for 15-30 minutes. No one answered the elevator emergency phone. It took 3 calls from the emergency phone for someone to finally pick up. My husband was calling the hotel phone from his cell phone. It took 3 calls to the hotel for someone to pick up. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. The emergency phone in the elevator needs to be answered 24/7. Employees need to know how to respond to an emergency. If you stay at this hotel, just be prepared to be very inconvenienced with a malfunctioning elevator that may alter your travel plans for the day. Also, be prepared for no one to answer your calls. It's June 9, 2021, they are renovating the front entrance and it's raining hard. Checkin is around back, but they made no effort to install a temporary shelter to keep guests dry as they unload bags. If you need plugs for your electronic devices, forget it, this is circa 1980s. Hyatt should be ashamed to put their name on this place. Perhaps they have more renovations planned, but until then, give this place a pass, in my humble opinion. read more

Wasn't sure if I was going to pick this place after reading all the reviews but I'm glad we did. Hotel was located in a great area right across the street from the galleria, the parking lot was well lit and parking was never a problem. The hotel staff was awesome and check in was a breeze. Our room was perfectly clean and well chilled for the hot Alabama day we had. The shower and toilet was clean. The bed was comfortable with four pillows. Two of which were a little different so finding a comfortable pillow was easy. The breakfasts here are amazing. Free of course. Cage free eggs, natural bacon, breakfast sausage that was out of this world. The scramble eggs were not the tropical watered down type. Juices not from a machine but in glass jars on a frozen slab. Fresh real butter and much much more. The pool is at the end of the building with plenty of sunshine. It was clean and cool to swim in. We never smelled mold, never saw any mold, didn't see any stains on the carpet. Large tv, mini fridge that actually kept things cold, nice couch in the room too. Evert thing was great. The only downside was they wouldn't accept my Hyatt gold points as payment because I didn't call. Lame! This is your typical Hyatt Place, although at least there is enough room for people to sit and eat breakfast (unlike the Austin, TX location). You get free WiFi, breakfast, and parking. The amenities must not be too shabby here, since this is where the army stayed while I was there. The breakfast can get a bit dull if you stay at Hyatt Place often. It's always the same: breakfast sandwiches, hard waffles/pancakes, and no eggs (hard boiled or scrambled) or sausage/bacon. At least there's an ample amount of Tazo teas to choose from, and there's plenty of fresh fruit, cereal, and milk/juices. Rooms are spacious compared to some of the Hiltons and Marriotts where I've stayed. I do like the L shaped couch (which can pullout into a bed). This Hyatt Place though does not have the food network channel, which I find strange. My main problem with this hotel was the aftermath. I had a rate that included $25 per day for food and beverages. On the morning of checkout, my statement charged me for all of the food. On that morning, I spoke with a manager and collected a revised bill, thinking it was taken care of. I was wrong. A week later, I noticed on the the charges appeared on my credit card bill. When I called in the evening, there was no manager on file, so I left a message. Three days later, I still hadn't received a response. I travel 80% of the time now, so it's hard for me to get a hold of people. A week later, I emailed Hyatt and explained I needed someone to fix my bill. They requested I call the hotel. Because I didn't have time due to travel, I called a week later. Again, a manager was not on duty. I then called the next day during the daytime, and I was finally able to talk to Julie. She said she would review the charges and take them off if needed. Later I received an email stating the charges would be taken off, but what's interesting is that I did not receive a follow-up phone call. I just happened to check my email, and lo and behold, there was a bill with a revised statement. I stayed at this hotel because of Hyatt's endless possibilities promotion (50,000 bonus points if you stay 20 nights from Jan-Apr 2014). The bottom line is that if you have a normal hotel rate, this will suffice. But if you get some sort of special rate where an amenity is included, beware! read more

This place was one of the pits a stayed in for a resent trip to Florida. I would never stay here again, it was not worth it. I drove 9 hours to get into the area and 2 hours to go the last 7 miles to get to this hotel. They have NO hot tub and the pool was ice cold in mid May, and the front desk people were just bad at functioning. My room had water on the carpet from leaking A/C unit and the place was not vacuumed good as I found money on the floor. The breakfast was good but I could at other hotels and spend my savings on a great breakfast. I could not check out as the front desk person left his post for at least 30 minutes, I just left a note for them to sign me out. In short KEEP DRIVING past this hotel and many to choose from here. I will traveling thru this area each year at least 4 times and I will never stay here again. I lost an heirloom pocket knife and called them to ask if it was recovered. The person on the phone said they did not find a black knife, the trouble was I hadn't told them the color yet, WHAT DO YOU THINK? read more

Stayed one night recently for a business trip. There is lots of parking in the lot and a short walk to the lobby - so no issues there. At first appearance it looks fairly new inside and everything was clean. The lobby has chairs and couches to hang out in and a small area where they sell food, water and some beer. The check-in process was quick and seamless and they were very nice to answer any my questions and make sure I had everything I needed. My room was large, with a couch and seating area as well as a king bed and separate bathroom. Overall the hotel was quiet so I got a good nights sleep. I used the fitness facility (small but fine) and there was a few cardio machines and some free weights. They have free breakfast which included fresh fruit, coffee and everything you would need to start your day. I would definitely stay here again when I travel for work. read more

We typically like the Hyatt Place brand, but we had a few issues at this location. We arrived late and it took several minutes for the desk clerk to appear. We were tired and just wanted to go to bed so we didn't notice much that night. The next morning the key did not work in the fitness room and I again had to find a desk clerk to help me. -The keys were a continuing annoyance for the rest of the stay even though we had them re-keyed. -The faucet on the bath sink was reversed in hot and cold directions. -After showering the first day I hung to towels to reuse the next day as requested by the be green tags. The next day when I went to shower there was only one towel - the others had been removed. -This man be a personal preference type of thing, but I felt the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. read more

Work put me up here for five days (05/22-05/26) for training in Vestavia Hills. The beds are pretty comfy and the size of the rooms are pretty nice considering you have a living room with a sectional. I'm not a fan of having the sink separated from the actual bathroom. Who wants a sink above carpet? Certainly not me. Otherwise, I enjoyed the desk area and appreciate the bar/mini fridge area. The breakfast lady was incredibly kind. As for breakfast itself, I only ate breakfast once and it wasn't too bad, but not a lot of healthy options outside of yogurt and fruit. The gentleman at the bar was pleasant after long days of training as well. Canvas developed wines strictly for Hyatt and their chardonnay is great. The location is pretty prime. I was right across from an OrangeTheory studio which made working out easy. Riverchase Galleria was not even half a mile down the street and The Summit (slightly more upscale) wasn't a far drive away. I don't mind staying here and know that I'll be back because of the contract my company has with Hyatt Place. read more

As I heaved my 24' inch luggage and bag into the lobby, I was overcome with a blast of crisp air conditioning. My sweat pores were instantly closed, beads of sweat dissolving into the fresh air. In a matter of minutes, I was checked in, so I migrated to the second floor. However, when I swiped my room key into the slot, the door was jammed; an empty pit in my heart appeared. At last I entered the spacious room, dropped my bags to the floor and ran around the room, testing the exceptionally bouncy couch and beds. The breakfast buffet was significantly underwhelming. My hands were nearly scalded as they touched the hot plates, bowls, cups, and silverware. Scrambled eggs tasted as rubbery as rubber, and biscuit and gravy were overfloured and chunky. It was the next day when I was met with a frustrating dilemma. None of my room cards worked, so I was forced to take the elevator down to the front desk, where a visibly annoyed staff member handed me another card. I trotted my way to the room, excited be engulfed by the bed, until the door yet again failed to open. Although a heart-wrenching situation involving me sitting outside for quite some time, the nice workers were finally able to open my room. Overall, I would recommend this hotel due to the exceptionally nice staff members, and it is located next to Chick-Fil-A. read more
