This was the last stop on my cross country drive and I am so happy to say that it ended on a positive note. The owner kept in contact with me during the day to inform me of the check in process and how to get into the house. I struggled a bit to figure out how to actually find the parking area because I kept passing the ally where you need to try, so don't make that mistake. The house is beautiful and has tons of fun décor throughout. Since I had a ton of stuff with me I had booked the room on the ground floor. I thought it might be noisy but it wasn't whatsoever. There were snacks and drinks available and my room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was really good as well. I will be brining my husband back here soon!

This may end up being a regular stopping off point for us in our travels from the New Orleans area to our son's in Kentucky! Lovely Victorian setting, very well run, excellent good! If you want atmosphere AND a homey setting stay here. They were, also, completely compliant and conscientious about COVID-19 matters.

Where do I start we booked the B&B for our 22nd wedding anniversary trip upon arrival we were greeted with the most warm and loving welcome from Sheila (owner) and we're offered right away snacks and refreshments. We were given a tour and history of the B&B. We felt at home right away. We stayed the night of the 4th and 5th of July. The 4th Sheila provided BBQ from a local restaurant it was superb along with great fellowship and watching of the fireworks from the wrap around porch. We had breakfast the morning of the 5th and 6th made fresh every morning with the choice of coffee/tea or a beverage of your choice out of the fridge. My husband is a soda drinker (his form of coffee). We met new friends and exchanged stories about life, travel and more. This is the first time we've ever stayed at a B&B and what an AMAZING experience. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway with a smile and a welcoming atmosphere look no further. You will not be disappointed you will be looking at your calendar and planning your next trip back to the B&B.

Had a lovely stay here. It was such a beautiful room and experience. Sheila the owner was very kind and we joined her and other guests in the morning for a great breakfast. The location is perfect and very central to dining in Birmingham

I absolutely love this place and the hostess. I've stayed at four bed and breakfast and this was by far the nicest. The neighborhood that surrounds the Hassinger Daniel is amazing with beautiful old churches, gorgeous mansions and nice restaurants. The innkeeper was extremely nice and welcoming. The mansion is gorgeous on the outside and elegant and a bit eccentric on the inside. We stayed in the Vulcan suite, which I thought was star trek themed (star fleet insignia resemblance above the bed). However, the suite is named for the view of the Vulcan statue from the bedroom window. All the rooms are unique and wonderfully decorated. I will gladly stay at this BB when back in Birmingham.

amazing location, amazing mansion, the renovations and decorations are amazing, every room has its own theme with beautiful antiques and you have a great view of the vulcan from the patio, my mom and i stayed here on our roadtrip and had an amazing time, the break fast is great!!

This place is definitely quirky, but we had a great stay! The decor is a little over the top, but the house is beautiful, the breakfast was yummy, and the staff was great. We stayed in the bridal suite with another couple. There was plenty of space for all of us, but we had to laugh when we saw that there was a window facing from the room into the bathroom. So we definitely had to workout some systems for privacy. But the beds were comfortable and we really enjoyed the room over all!

Subtly blending into, while also highlighting something new about a destination is a key element of…read morebalance that quality hotels aim to strike. Mountain Brook is a destination synonymous with old money, English and European architecture, uniqueness, gardens and a sense of village like isolation despite being very close to the city. Without a question, it is a very special place that completely lacked a respectable hotel, until 2015 when the Dallas based Kesseler collection opened Grand Bohemian. The hotel also belongs to Marriott's Autograph Collection group, which packages all unique 4 star hotels that don't fit into the cookie cutter of other brands and don't quite meet the requirements of a unique 5 star property, in which case it would sit under Luxury Collection umbrella. ~ Architecture and Design ~ Starting with the architecture, it's a very fitting hotel created in British country house style and fitting very well into the mountain Brook village. The parking deck is concealed very nicely to avoid ruining the views, the sidewalks are connected to the botanical gardens and the spaces inside are open and elegant. The interior is very interestingly crafted with a playful, contemporary take on recreating the ambiance of "Grand" hotels in Europe, while compressing into a smaller footprint and adding colorful energy inspired by the botanical gardens. The Deluxe Room was quite spacious, with a large bathroom and tub, but a cramped shower. The design is done in a mixture of elements that could cut this hotel into 5 star category, but also some pieces that clearly highlight that it's not. Faux marble bathroom and shower tiles are one such example. However, the original artwork by local artists, heavily depicting botanical gardens is an absolute beauty and the hotel is loaded with endless curiosities. ~ Service and Status Recognition ~ The service overall was spectacular. Each item request was very quick, very accurate and staff are very friendly, in many cases going above and beyond. It's one of the best service experiences in 4 star hotel category. As far as status recognition, the story was a bit less smooth. After confirming a Titanium status based upgrade to a deluxe room, I was unupgraded during checkin despite having availability. That was corrected upon me inquiring why. The suite upgrade was not honored despite the hotel having availability, but also only having 1 suite. There was some staff who did not seem to be well versed in benefits, as they also initially did not want to honor a 4pm checkout despite having plenty of availability, then an employee named Terry corrected the issue quickly. There is a breakfast benefit at Autograph Collection also, here providing a continental breakfast and also honoring an American Breakfast. It would be nice if the benefit was provided as a dollar credit also, so that guests would have flexibility to use it for other items and pay extra. But, nonetheless, not a bad breakfast. In summary, all the benefits of being a loyal guest did get honored, but each did require some light nudging to get the hotel to honor them, so that is an improvement area without questions. Benefits should be honored consistently to make the guests feel special for spending the substantial amount of money with the chain, not be an exercise of pushing the hotel to get them. ~ Amenities ~ The hotel does have a nice small pool, a well stocked small gym and a spa, the latter being closed due to pandemic. The gym was very clean, completely empty and very well stocked with cold water and towels. The particularly pleasant in room amenities included comfortable pillows, bathrobes, top notch toiletries and a pull tap bottle opener. The Bose stereo is there, but unfortunately quite useless these days unless you carry a stack of CDs or want to hear radio, so it is time for an upgrade. The slippers were brought quickly upon request. The Grand Bohemian is a spectacular example of a four star property idealism and what it should be. Gorgeously morphs and enhances its neighborhood, provides spectacular service at its price point, surprises with design, art and architecture. Excellent food and pleasant people working who pay attention to details of guests preferences and remediate issues quickly. It's a true pleasure staying at Grand Bohemian and it's such a wonderful addition to Birmingham.

Not the chefs fault but at times other teaching was left out due to attendee chatter. Final dishes were self serve so I made a small plate due to concern of those behind me in line. There was no dessert plate so it mixed in with our food. One house wine or beer would be nice for the price point. I would rather make a reservation at a nice restaurant & pay half.

The building has a beautiful historic feel, and I like that they've maintained some of that old Birmingham charm rather than making everything feel overly modern and generic. The location is also convenient if you're attending an event downtown or want to be close to the theatre district, restaurants, and other attractions. One of the highlights is the rooftop bar. The views of downtown are beautiful, especially around sunset, and it's a nice place to grab a drink without leaving the hotel. Service is generally warm and welcoming, which makes a difference, particularly in an older property where a few things may not feel as updated as a newer hotel. Parking is valet only through the hotel, so that is something to factor into your stay as well. Great downtown location, historic charm, good hospitality, and a rooftop worth checking out. I would rate this Hilton property 0 stars if we could. We are loyal Hilton Diamond members and have stayed at multiple Hilton properties around the world. This was one of the worst properties we have ever stayed at. We stayed here in February and from the time we attempted to check in, it was disappointing. We were upgraded due to our Diamond status and upon checking into our room it was absolutely disgusting. The bedsheets appeared dingy and the bathroom was gross. There was hair on the ground and a vomit stain on the tile. So vile! We called downstairs right away and were moved to another room that was not much better. However, we were there for a family function and has other guests arriving that we has suggested the hotel to. We did notify the manager on duty and he told us he would escalate our concerns. The next day, the hotel manager, Tonya was on sight and sat down and spoke to us regarding the issues. She agreed that our experience was 100% unacceptable and promised to compensate our Hilton Honors points for our entire stay. She assured us that she would make this happen. Also, despite our complaints and meeting with her, our room was never even serviced by house keeping our entire stay. Now over 1 month later after no follow-up call or email, we contacted her and at first she acted as if she has no idea what we were talking about. Then she stated she escalated the issue to corporate but was unauthorized to issue more than 20,000 points, which covers absolutely nothing. And stated there was not really anything for her to do! She totally and outright lied to us, after she had assured us in person and in an email that our entire points would be compensated. She even had the audacity to even yell at us on the phone. This is not the type of experience I expect as a loyal Hilton Diamond Member. In conclusion avoid this disgusting and poor quality Hilton property at all costs.

I recently stayed at Home2 Suites by Hilton in downtown Birmingham on 18th Street, and…read moreunfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations. Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay. To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained. I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel's downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus. Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki's, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests. While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.

When I called to get it I was on hold for quite a while--revising my review to lower from 4 stars for being adequate to good, to 3 stars because I had to wait in hold for over 16 minutes two days after my stay to get someone there on the phone to send me the bill for my stay, when it should have been sent immediately after I check out and automatically. The stay turned into a hassle with no respect for my time.
