One thing that I can say about London is that they have some of the most breathtaking parks that I've ever seen. Hyde Park is a perfect example of this. Who knew that London was so enchantingly green?! I guess it makes sense with all of the rain that falls year around. I visited Hyde Park twice while I was in London. One measly visit just wasn't enough. Hell, twice really isn't much. But with all of the other exploring that I wanted to do, that was all the time that I could afford. But you best believe that if I had more time, I would I have hung out there for days. This park is immense! It's composed of several large grassy areas that are all lined with trees and tons of paved walking paths that will lead you to all parts of the park. There's a plethora of wildlife ranging from geese to squirrels, to different species of birds. In the middle of the park you'll find a beautiful lake known as the Serpentine that truly sparkles from every angle. There's also a small pond known as Round Pond where families of geese like to hibernate. There are a few different gardens located within the park with one of the most notable being the Kensington Gardens. You can walk through the Kensington Gardens by way of the flower walk. It's a gorgeous pathway affixed with several different colorful flowers and shrubs. Also within the park is the historic Kensington Palace, the Serpentine Galleries, Hyde Park Holocaust Memorial, the Princess Diana Memorial, and the stunning Albert Memorial. This is a great place to bring children! I saw so many kids in the park. They have a few playgrounds sprawled throughout, but they'll still be entertained either way. You'll spot runners, dog walkers, tourists, and families strolling through the park. It's heavily trafficked but not overcrowded. If you're hungry, they have a few cafes located right inside. It's really peaceful here. This is the perfect place to have a picnic underneath the trees. It didn't get dark until after 9:30 when I went. You could essentially spend your entire day here. It's so easy to get here by public transit too. The tube will practically take you right across the street. Definitely a must visit when coming to London. read more

Wow, well Hyde Park is definitely one of my top 10 places to visit when in London. The park is ginormous and has plenty of footpaths and trails to go walking or jogging on. I recently visited here with a friend I hadn't seen in over 9 years, and we rented two of the deck chairs and had a great time. Just sitting in the sun with a couple of ciders made the afternoon wonderful. Towards the center of Hyde Park there is a huge lake where you can rent peddle boats, which is always fun on a summer's afternoon. There's also several restaurants that you can go and eat at. Overall this park is one of the best that London has to offer, if you're visiting London, you have to come here!! read more

Oh man, Hyde Park took me back to my BFG-loving childhood. As soon as I entered, I felt like I was in my own little Disney movie. I was there during March, so it was a weird time, nature-wise; it was cold, the grass wasn't very green, and there was nothing in bloom. But it was still so relaxing to walk through, watch the ducks and squirrels, and find the landmarks, not to mention imagine all the history that's taken place here. There are maps throughout the walkway, so use that to find places like the Peter Pan statue, the Princess Diana memorial, the Standing Stone, the Holocaust Memorial, the July 7 Memorial, and Speakers' Corner. And of course, don't miss walking by the Serpentine and Long Water lakes. It seems safe to walk through at even later hours of the day. Bear in mind that Kensington Gardens, which takes up about a half of what looks like Hyde Park on the maps, closes at sunset, and you won't be able to walk through it after 4:45. Hyde Park is the largest of the four royal parks of London! After a day of museums, walking through the park and relaxing at the cafe really hits the spot. read more

This park is absolutely gorgeous in the autumn. When in London you should really take some time to wander around. The wildlife watching alone will be worth your time. For instance, I was so surprised to see that there's a number of green parrots inhabiting the park. Apparently they are very famous residents, but there's also a wide variety of bird species that congregate here. I love the fact that the main trail connects Paddington with the Kensington neighborhood, and that it's so accessible. The park is super dog friendly, and there was no shortage of well behaved dogs off their leashes. Dog watching here is a great time! Almost as good as the bird watching. Make sure to check out the Round Pond when you're here. All the swans and other waterfowl are a beautiful sight. This is almost like a magical oasis in the middle of the city, and it's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle. It's really a great thing London has a place like this. read more

Hyde Park. It's 350 acres of trails and dogs off-leash and fountains and swans. It's horses and riders, beautiful old trees with fabulous fall colors. It's in the most beautiful neighborhood. It has the best hot chocolate in a little cafe near a water feature for Prince Albert. Spend the day here and imagine King Henry using the area as his favorite hunting ground before opening it up to everyone to use. Then go see Kensington Palace at the end. Best day ever. read more

A large park in the center of London. It was fun and relaxing to walk around the lake and watch the many species of bird which are protected in the park. The famous Speakers' Corner apparently was only active in Sundays. Wikipedia says that the park was opened to the public in 1637, which would be around the same time of Boston Common. read more

Hyde Park is the UK version of Central Park. Or is Central Park the American version of Hyde Park? Either way, a stroll through this place is beautiful! Luckily the water cooperated with us and it wasn't raining. Kensington palace is on one side of it and that was my goal to see-maybe even Price George ;) Lots of locals walking their dogs there, albeit without leashes ever there there are signs everywhere. If you have some spare time, take a walk through here-you won't regret it. read more

We stayed at the the Park Lane Marriott which was directly across the street from this massive 350 acre park. Inside the park, there's the Serpentine lake for boating and swimming, a horse stable, several full service restaurants and it's super dog friendly. The landscaping is incredibly beautiful. There are several Princess Diana memorials located here. I was surprised that they even had a modern museum of art called the Serpentine Galleries which we checked out. We experienced varieties of birds, sculptures and water fountains which made this place unique. I'm so happy we experienced this park and it's amazingly located right in the heart of the city. You can get here from the tube and many buses stop here - so it's very accessible! read more

I can't state enough how grand London's parks are. This one is so huge, you can fit a small city inside. If you're coming for the first time, I suggest making a day out of it, as there is much to see. From winding pathways surrounded by gorgeous trees of many different varieties- perfect for cycling, roller blading, & jogging- to lush gardens that have been carefully maintained and house a number of exotic birds and other wildlife. Upon entering, you can't begin to measure the scope of this park, so my suggestion is, go through the gates at whichever bus stop you get off of, and slowly wind your way in from there. There are plenty of resting places like benches and space to lay down a blanket- which you're free to do if the desire strikes. You'll definitely want to stop and gaze at the beautiful scenery and listen to the exotic birds located at some of the enclosed gardens. Being that it is enormous, there are conveniently-placed restrooms throughout the park. And there are also a few food stands and restaurants near the lake where you can grab some slightly-overpriced, but yummy food & drinks while you watch people on the boats and other passerby doing their thing, living their lives, and generally having a splendid time. And if you're more of an introvert, there are plenty of secluded spots where you can sit under a tree and gaze at the canopy above you as you contemplate the meaning of life. Or snooze. Whichever you prefer. Just an FYI: Do be careful when feeding the birds and other wildlife. I got attacked by pigeons after feeding one an almond, as they tried to get the rest in my bag. I love love LOVE Hyde Park. It's the perfect London park - with a simple twisting road that cuts through it, perfect for cycling or rollerblading or jogging (as if) or just walking and taking in the green grass and leafy trees. Or just sit near the side of the lake and watch the boaters and swans. Or wander over to the Diana Memorial fountain and take int he kiddies running and splashing and having a grand time. Or go over to the Serpentine Gallery and take in some art. Or just find a quiet shady spot for a picnic, followed by a nap. There are a couple of Boris bike stands here and there and the park is surrounded by Tube stations, so you can get in and get out easily. My favorite park in the city! read more

Having a nice little stroll This time in London we took a bit more time walking around Hyde Park. It was a really hot day and the streets of London not the best spot to be for our doggy in this heat. Hyde Park offered some nice green lawns, some breeze and shade for our doggy and us. We entered at Hyde Park, walking at and around The Serpentine (up to the Sackler Gallery), having some lunch between at the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen, which was pretty good (and packed). The lake itself was filled with probably all boats available, almost a traffic jam on water (at least later on the day), but nice to look at. Even though the Park was pretty busy that day, it never felt too crowded, since it's just so big. We really enjoyed our time here and it's always a nice change from the fun, but busy streets of London. Surely we'll be back. read more

A real gem in the heart of London. If you want activity, there is plenty to be found. Plenty of spaces to run, play, workout, horseback ride, exercise your dog....all within minutes of the nearest Tube station. If you want to relax with a quiet stroll or a sit on a bench, there's that too. Clean and safe, this is a true urban oasis, similar to Central Park in NYC. The interesting thing about Hyde Park is that portions of it are much less sculpted than parts of Central Park, so you get a more rustic feel in certain areas of the part. If you are in London and do not go to Hyde Park, you failed. Hyde Park is an amazing and beautiful place with so much culture and history. I mean, KENSINGTON PALACE, the Serpentine and more! My dad lives in London so I was here on a trip visiting him and I really like to learn a city by immersing myself and walking in it. There are some amazing paths in Hyde Park to go for a run/ walk. I went for a walk in the park every morning and stopped for a ton of photo opps. If you go from 6 to 8 am the park is incredibly quiet and enjoyable. If you're looking for some free activities in London, considering the city is extremely expensive, spend a day in Hyde Park. You won't be sorry you came here. read more

Hyde Park is the perfect place in London to get away from the hustle and bustle. And, there is so much to do. Have a picnic (courtesy of Harrods Food Hall), a nap, a session of meditating, people watching, dog patting, reading, rollerblading, flower smelling and admiring, bird feeding, renting paddle boats and/or swimming in The Serpentine, playing on the playground, admiring sculptures, playing a game of tennis, attending a concert and festival, or simply getting fit by walking/running the length of the park... seriously everything! The park is massive (over 350 acres), so if you want to see it all, I would highly recommend hiring a bike (for a small fee). Super easy, practical and loads of fun.  Tip: Various entrances - I recommend shopping down Oxford Street, then walking to Hyde Park from there (by tube: Marble Arch Underground Station) read more

I can't quite believe that I haven't reviewed this before given that I used to live 2 minutes' walk away, and am still only a ten minute jog away now. (Well, ten minutes on a good day). At 350 acres (142 hectares) it's one of the world's largest urban parks, and is unusual in that it is so close to the centre - it defines the western boundary of the 'West End'. It sort of merges seamlessly into adjacent Kensington Gardens, and together they provide some 625 acres of much-needed green space. Most of the park is laid out in the classic English landscape tradition, with huge expanses of lawn and trees, with the famous 'Serpentine' lake towards the Knightsbridge side providing a focus. There is a gravel horse-riding track along two sides, but it is equally used for all sorts of informal sports, from cycling and roller-blading (on designated paths only) to jogging, impromptu cricket matches and frisbee contests. The park is also full of memorials, including those to Diana, Princess of Wales (the famous non-fountain) and to the Holocaust victims. You can't get away from history here, either: acquired by Henry VIII in 1536 from the monks of Westminster Abbey, it was used as a Royal hunting ground until Charles I opened it to the public in 1637, and many Londoners camped here in 1665 trying to escape the plague. It wasn't landscaped, however, until the 1730s, when Queen Caroline (wife of George II) employed Charles Bridgeman for this purpose. The design included damming the Westbourne Stream to create the Serpentine Lake. It remains a Royal Park, however, and is under the care of the Royal Parks agency. Subsequent history includes it being the site of the 1851 Great Exhibition, and the Crystal Palace was originally built here, until it was moved to the location in south London that now bears its name. It has been used for all sorts of public celebrations, such as the fireworks held in 1814 to mark the defeat of Napoleon, as well as demonstrations - the latter leading to the establishment of Speakers' Corner (well worth a visit to see public democracy in action). More recently, it has become a location for rock and pop concerts, and after much lobbying, even hosted the Gay Pride event in 2003. Unlike Kensington gardens next door, the park is open from 05:00 until midnight all year round - even in winter. This is a great oasis in the middle Of a bustling city. We stayed here for hours just resting our feet and philosophizing about life. The park is packed with Locals and tourists alike. There are seats that you can rent which I found it was very annoying. You could also sit on the grass but there are patches of dirt. On the other side of the park you can actually go for a paddle boating. There are plenty of ducks and swans looking for food so bring some bread. Hyde Park is such a beautiful park to wander around for a few hours! They have lots of little museums and sights scattered throughout, and it's such an excitement when you turn the corner and come face to face with a beautiful statue and fountain! I traversed this park so many times Im not sure how may kilometers/miles I logged. There are stretches of sheer beauty and then sometimes barren stretches of grass. Fountains, trees, monuments. Ive been told it's not worth going through late at night so I didnt do that but I did get a few stints at sunset. The Serpentine area is particularly beautiful during a sunny day. I guess there's a reason why many people pay millions of pounds to have an address and view of this park. read more

This review will be mainly based on Hyde Park as a gig venue but let's not forget it is a pretty amazing park in it's own right, great for walking, jogging, swimming and picnicking as many others have mentioned. I have seen two gigs here over the past couple of years - Blur and Kings of Leon, both were fantastic. I love an outside performance and Hyde Park does it particularly well. It's well organised and kept pretty clean and tidy, as much as possible with so many plastic cups floating around. On neither occasion have I had to wait long to get in. In fact, on the last visit we were positively encouraged not to queue but to fill every available gap - a very strange concept for us Brits! There are numerous bars that are exceptionally well staffed meaning you don't have to wait long for your pint. There are lots of food stands but I haven't tried these to date. My only complaint would be the toilet facilities - endless, poorly defined queues that mean you end up wasting a lot of time that could be better spent watching the bands. Apparently not a problem for the boys who seem to think it is perfectly acceptable to wee where they are standing (!) but please, provide more loos for the ladies. It's pretty easy to get out and it's much quicker to walk back to Victoria than to try and get the tube. Sort out the toilet issue and it's an easy 5 stars. read more

Okay, London, I get it. You have an overabundance of huge, beautiful parks and I, as a Los Angeles native, am insanely jealous. Not jealous enough that I'm about to pay for your cost of living, perhaps, but jealous. I've been to Hyde Park a couple of times, and it's a splendid place, rife with greenery and lakes and all the gorgeous things you could want in a park. It's also gigantic, and if you feel so inclined, you can rent bikes to ride across it. I have opted for going about on foot, and strolling through Hyde Park is a pleasure matched only by strolling through the other amazing parks in London. I've spent time watching people and geese and taking in more fresh air than my body is used to. I'm going on the record to say that of the few parks I've visited in London, Regents is my favorite, but who am I kidding? I love them all, and I would do wicked things to have Hyde Park in my neighborhood. read more
