Our extended family met here a few weeks ago to pick apples and celebrate a birthday. It was perfect! The live music was great. We parked ourselves under the large tent to share some snacks and birthday cupcakes. The kids rode the tractor to the orchard over and over again to keep picking delicious apples and the guests that chose to indulge enjoyed the brews available at the bar. There was a food truck with some delicious offerings (cash only unfortunately). It is a dog friendly place and our Shepkita had a great time meeting new friends and taking in the sights and smells. Definitely recommend as a wonderful place to just show up and enjoy time together in a big group of family and friends!

I absolutely love apple picking for about 5 minutes ... I can pick about 10 apples, eat one perfectly red one, and then I'm done. After that, walking around the orchard and fields is fine for a bit, but then I'm ready to bonk people with the apple picking pole, or lay down and nap. Hyland gives me plenty of other great distractions which I think are integral parts of a realllly great apple picking trip. Beer, petting zoo, cheap food, live music ... and did I say beer ??? Oh yea, and the apples are good, orchards pretty, etc. etc. The live music is under this really large wooden pavilion-structure-floating-roof-thing ... so a bit of a sprinkle is no biggie. What's more is that the live music is often quite great, like the "Drunk Stuntmen". The food is pretty decent fare, served at good prices. Burgers, dogs, and apple-y things. The Pioneer Beer brewed here is really good too, everything from Pale Ale to Stout! One thing that really peeves me is when quint, wonderful orchards and farms turn into amusement parks, charging admission, etc. (aka Lookout) ... Hyland is great in that they have free parking, entrance, animals, and music ... don't change, please! Altogether, it makes for a very happy and fun full day of entertainment.

The is a review just for the Pioneer Brewing Company brewery tour. First, an important note - during our tour the brewmaster mentioned that Pioneer is moving the entire brewery from their current 4,000 square foot space to a new 17,000 square foot space a little ways down the road on Main Street. The brewery tours take place on Sundays at 2PM. It's very informal. Pioneer has a big bar room which is an obvious hangout for locals. At around 2:15 the brewmaster gathered us up and took us on a quick tour of the three room brewery. The great thing about visiting such a small brewery is the quality and detail of the information from the brewmaster. In this case, the tour guide was not just the brewmaster but the owner of the whole company. He was informative and frank, he led a great tour. The three areas of the brewery are the brew house area where they begin the brewing process, the fermentation area where they age and then bottle the beer, and then the cold storage room which is where they keep their kegs, bottles, and kegs tapped up to the bar room. After the tour we armed up to the bar for some free samples. We tried 5 different kinds of Pioneer beer. They were pretty good - they all generally tasted similar to me, nothing stood out. Even the blueberry beer didn't have any knockout flavor notes but that's just me maybe. The orchards and grounds are really pretty and peaceful. A great place to spend an afternoon with friends or family.

You can sit at the bar and drink a beer and smoke a cigarette At The Same Time. We took photos to brag to our friends.

GREAT beer. The entertainment and animals aren't my thing, but it's a brewery, not a zoo!

Great fun, live bands on Sunday, beer on taps, grab some food from home and lay out a blanket. Cannot beat the atmosphere.

I first visited these guys when they were operating out of a small barn, and seeing the evolution to this 53,000 sq ft, $18.5M facility is seriously impressive. They follow a "direct-to-consumer" model -- selling everything right out the front door -- and they've mastered it. I've been here many times over the years and go whenever I have the opportunity, which says everything. Tried some of their standout beers -- King Julius is the gold standard, consistently ranked among the best beers in the world. Their flagship Julius is just as impressive, with massive notes of mango and peach -- incredibly well balanced and executed. There are usually food trucks on site, which adds to the experience -- you can enjoy a fresh pour while picking up your take-home haul. Fun fact: On BeerAdvocate's all-time Top 250 list, Tree House often has 30+ beers featured, something almost no other brewery can match. Overall, some of the best beers anywhere -- truly unparalleled and absolutely worth the visit. Saluti.

We got flatbreads, nachos, Mac and cheese, wings and an order of hush puppies. They left more than half of everything and said it was just ok. I spent $120 between food and drinks.. but the real kicker is *it's not a real restaurant* you go up and order like a Burger King and then you go up and pick up like Burger King but they still want a 20% tip. so I don't know what they want their 20% tip for when no one comes to you, no one checks on you. No one to ask you how it is. they don't care. also, they only sell single serve bottles of soda so there's no refills. We ended up spending like $22 on soda alone. * I noticed on their Facebook that they were complaining that people who were doing cornhole tournaments were bringing outside food and instead of reassessing their situation and what they're serving, they threatened to cancel the cornhole. If you served better food, people would buy it. It's not rocket science. Yours is 5/10 and there's other options out there that are cheaper and better than what you're currently offering. You don't take away the cornhole from people who are giving you any bit of business, you make it better for them.. so they want to buy it and they want to spend money and they want to eat your food. *since my teens aren't old enough to drink, there really isn't much to offer there in the way of food so we won't be coming back because there's no reason to.

Several months ago, I was following my GPS to visit someone when this place caught my eye…read more It was so tiny. So hidden away. I mean, who the hell has even heard of Gilbertville? I made a mental note to come back another day, when I had time to explore the area. Spoiler alert: There's not much there to explore in Gilbertville. Although, if you're like me and willing to drive 10 miles out of your way to save ten cents a gallon on gas, they do have the cheapest gas around. But I digress... Yesterday I pulled into their almost non-existent parking lot and wondered where people park when they are full. I was there at 3pm, so it was empty aside from myself, two other people, and a dog. The space was quirky and eclectic, with random art on the walls, old pieces from antique shops, and a bar lined with metal seats. They also had a few tables. It was all dark old wood, and I imagine it would be an awesome spot to hit on a cold winter's day. I settled myself into a seat at the bar. Just a warning: those seats must have the AC blowing directly onto the metal, because my poor vagina felt like it went through a cold plunge. I was wearing shorts, but the freezing cold metal felt like it penetrated straight into my cervix. If you opt for bar seating while wearing shorts, pack a sweater for your genitals. Icy nether regions aside, this place was a perfect little hideaway to hang for a bit and enjoy some well-crafted beers. They don't serve meals, but they do have snacks you can purchase if you need some sustenance. Their white stout was PHENOMENAL, one of the best beers I've had in a while. It was creamy, sweet, and SO easy to drink. It gave me a cream soda vibe, but with a 7% bite. Solo factor: 7/10. The place was pretty empty when I went, so it felt very comfortable to be there by myself. But it's tiny, so I don't know if it would have that same vibe once it's packed. The bartender was awesome, and very attentive. The seating isn't necessarily ideal for someone who wants to spend hours hanging out there, but it was fine for the time I was there...and there were also other options for places to sit. Also, I saw that they have an outdoor area where you can sit, which I missed on the way in. And I would be remiss to not mention that their bathroom was freakishly clean for a brewery bathroom. I've been to two places over the past few weeks where I walked into the bathroom, saw what was waiting for me, and thought "Fuck it, I'd rather get a kidney stone." Yuck.
